Just got God of war on ps2, I am a late Ps2 fanboy.....God of War is awesome and graphically it is gorgeous, yeah I see the tricks they are doing to get the graphics to appear detailed but the game is great. And Linda Hunt to the voice over is great, reminds me of her role as the freeman house maid in Dune.

It was good... the first few hours were fantastic. Too bad after the absolutely fantastic first boss, you have to fight a bunch of boring bosses. And the final level or two are painfully frustrating.

If the game kept it's pace the way it did those first two magical hours, I would've called this the greatest game this generation. But it'll just have to settle for one of the best PS2 games (which is an accomplishment on its own seeing as how there's so many PS2 games).

awesome game. I agree with Vinny, in the fact that the last boss got so frustrated after dying a whole bunch of times. I wish there were more "epic" type bosses too in the game.

I originally purchased my PS2 for God of War. Its the best PS2 game I've played so far and in the top 5 of my all time favorites. I'm not planning on getting a PS3, but once I see some God of War 2 footage, I may change my mind.

i loved god of war except for the final boss... i could beat the first 2 parts of the fight but the last part i struggled with for awhile. Its a shame because the majority of the game was a blast.

I don't see how "its a shame" that the game was a little hard. Thats one of the things that made it awesome. It wasn't DMC3 hard which is a good thing. I thought the difficulty was spot on.

I think the first and final forms of the last boos were the easiest ones. It was the second form which gave me trouble. Must have repeated that battle quite a few times. :bomb:

agreed about the game losing it's pace, but the last few levels seriously turned me off. the "protect the 'VIP'" part went on for way too long and the last boss was just plain clunky. along with the fact that there was no skill to the game besides the occasional dodge and knowing when to hold the block button for ten minutes before you can attack again, I could care less about it.

great story though

the last form gave me the most trouble... 1 hit and i would die. I must have tried beating him for a couple hours before i got lucky. Definetly not a fun nor cool boss fight. Id also agree ith everyone else and say the later part of the game is some of the most tedious gameplay i've endured.

the battles are cool..but there are some damn tedious levels.. i.e. tightrope walking, trying to outswim spiked walls, timed traps... the bosses were great.. I loved the Minotaur boss.. the boss battles were great..

I love hard games, but they were right about the last couple parts of the game...I'm not ocmplaining because it was insanely difficult (hell, I didn't even find Ninja Gaiden THAT hard), but it was annoying.

Still an amazing game, though.

Annoying is worse than Difficult. At least in some Difficult games, it's in short spurts in which it's easy to keep a forward momentum of progression throughout the game if you die often. It becomes annoying when you get set back so far that it's an extreme punishment for not being "good enough" at a very difficult game.

It gets worse and worse as it goes on. It started out pretty well, but I definitely thought it was overrated. DMC 3 was better as was NGB.

the amount of 10s the game got was disgusting. especially the game informer review. it's like the guy played the first couple hours and then wrote his review.

Judging from some of the posts in here, I'm glad I waited for this game. It should hit GH by the time I'm finished with DMC3.

I'll agree with you on NG...not so sure about DMC3 yet (but I'm playing through it currently, so we'll see).

This game was a dissapointment to me. After I played the badass demo which made me want to fight the first boss really badly, I obtain the game and do so...it was fun, and surpassed my expectations, but it went down hill from there. I thought I was going to be fighting more gigantic bosses like that, in awesome settings like that (well, there were other boss fights, but only like...2 or 3 more). I was expecting to be fighting many different enemies, not the same ones in a different color with possibly a little more health. I expected to be in awesome locations, not the same damn place for the next 40% of the game (a.k.a. the pandora's box temple).

And then there was the combat. The combat was awesome at first, but then got highly repetitive. I mean...its awesome to be able to do 1000+ hit combo's without even trying, but it gets to a point when that is boring and all I want to do is use the sword to kill things faster and get on with the game.

Lets not forget the protect the persons part at the end, that was garbage. It was a cool idea, but it dragged on for way too long. I almost quit the game right there because it was too annoying. I will admit though that the last boss fight was cool, except he was a little too hard.

I may sound like I hate the game, but I enjoyed it for what it was, a mindless button mashing adventure game with the occasional jumping puzzles or look cool and kill a guy to solve a puzzle moment. I am mainly just disgusted with the extremely high reviews it has gotten, there are other action games out that are much better than it (NGB and DMC3 which have already been said).

So all in all....GOW is a fun game, but not the epic must play or you should die game that people and the media makes you think.

I didn't think it was mindless button-mashing...besides, those "hit the right button as fast as you can" sequences went a long way.

Oh, I forgot about the whole last boss. fuck that. I hated this game.

I think everyone's expectations for games have gone way too high up. So far the only two games I've seen mentioned in the same genre as GOW that are better are NGB and DMC 3. Being in the top 3 of "action" games or however you want to classify it, isn't all that bad.

I loved god of war. I dont have the time to play many games these days..well I do have the time, but they dont keep me addicted like they used to. God of war on the otherhand, I distinctly remember staying in on Friday and saturday nights alone playing it (being in a college town and social and a party'er, thats not easy). I beat the last boss on my second try, I thought it was a cool fight...not too hard at all. I even came back to the game and beat it on god of war mode, and completely everything you could in the game, and had a fun time doing it. Hell, playing that "protect the person" battle at the end was insanely frustrating on God of War mode, and after hours and hours after repeating the same crap over and over, I finally beat it. Walking to the last thing in the game, the playstation froze, and I had to spend more multiple hours playing that fucking fight...but it was still fun. If you think the combat system is mindless, try playing it on GoW mode. You need to parry and block a LOT to survive (esp the last boss).

I liked it, but most of it felt reallly repetitive. It wasn't very difficult, and if I wanted to, I probably could've beaten it with one combo alone. I didnt like it enough to try the hardest difficulty. (i only played it on normal)THe bosses were the best parts.
