To Mods: if this post you feel doesn't belong here feel free to move it to where it belongs. Was't sure where to post it.

IN the next week fews I will be launching www.VidGameAuctions.com

Completely free no Fee auctions. List whatever you want (No bootlegs!), NO listing fees, no end value fees, no signup fees, No fees for any of what Feebay charges ridiculous amounts of.

I am currently fininshing up a lot of the design and layout aspects of the finished site, once it is to a testing stage, I will be needing some volunteers to help test and fine tune some layout issues, and also the features.

I will be updating this topic during the next week or so with some screen shots of the site with some of the features and a list of them with details.

Anyone interested in helping test the site please send me a PM.

I am also starting a poll with this thread, I have a program that will allow me through various channels to verify a person (kinda similiar to a PayPal verification process) to verify a person, address and contact info. Would you feel more comfortable doing business on a website that required a verification? Yes? No? Reasons for? against?

Another thing I am looking for suggestions on, the category listings. Currently I have the categories in a format as such...

Microsoft
...Xbox
.....Hardware
.....New Domestic (U.S.) Software
.....Used Domestic (U.S.) Software
.....New Import Software
.....Used Import Software
...Xbox 360
NEC
...Turbo Graphx 16
Nintendo
.....
Nokia
.....

However, thing such as Keychains, collectibles, posters, and even clothing
I was thinging of people generic such categories under each system or manufactuer, but then I thought that if anyone is looking for those items, 1 overall category they should be placed in. Thoughts?

Thanks Again,
Jon

plenty of sites that are no fee based.. there just not popular.. its worth the fees for the bids people give. i wouldnt spend to much time and money on your site no offense.

Thanks for your pessimistic attitude. However, in all honestly if you go through out life with such an attitude, I do feel sorry for you.

it is worth a shot, but how on earth will your site make any money without any fees? GL but i wont bother with it, if a major company like google or microsoft set up an auction site similar to ebay then i would probably be interested(but then again, yahoo auctions didnt last too long)

I'd feel more secure in using your site if everything was verified by more than one source, including one that was as trusted and well-known as VeriSign. It would be too easy for you to scam people if you were the only one "verifying" addresses and such.

This isn't pessimism, just constructive criticism.

I'm not looking to profit from this project.

I have a software suite that goes through 3rd party companies to verify the identify of a person, through PayPal and other sources. I don't collect any of the information. My auction system gets a return from those sources specifying if it could identify the identity or not.

The auction system even during registration asks only for basic information, your address, etc.

Any and all payment information is not asked for.

Wow if you think thats pessimistic you need to go back to high school. It's called the truth. Why would someone wanna sell an item on your site (no fees or not) when it'll get more bids and more views and give the seller a larger profit on a site that is ranked in the top 10 of websites online (Edit: #4 online)? The fees ebay does isn't even bothersome (wow pay $2-$3 just to get listed with bold type) which is why you see shipping prices very high to make up for the little fees EBay uses, since they don't take out money form the shipping fees. You still have to go through Paypal if thats the sellers way since it'll take out a final fee.. how do you expect to pass through that bud? That has nothing to do with EBay.

As someone else said earlier in this thread its constructive criticism. No one makes a website and doesnt expect to profit on it unless its personal use. If you really dont expect to make money off this site. I expect not to see one single banner ad or popup throughout your site. You will be spending money out the wazzo and will fall under alot of liability without a good TOS.

Don't ask a poll and for peoples opinions if you can't handle what people have to say.

The problem you wil have is that on ebay, buyers don't pay any fees at all anyway, so why are they ging to want to come to your site with far fewer auctions over a site like ebay. If you don't get buyers bidding, sellers won't be selling either.

eBay is just too big and popular as well as the few other places to sell (Half.com, Amazon). If people use Pay Pal there is still the dreaded Pay Pal fee. The eBay fees are downright small to me, but the Pay Pal fee really can take a bite.
