Reggie Speaks With Spike TV About Zelda And Revolution
by Nathan Christianson (02/19/06)
Nintendo of America's Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing Reggie Fils-Aime recently spoke with members of Game Heads, a Spike TV video game show. He briefly discussed the company's next-generation console, code-named the Nintendo Revolution, stating we will see a release this year with a definite release date being revealed during Nintendo's E3 press conference being held on May 9th.
He also mentioned that we will not be seeing Zelda: Twilight Princess until later this fall, but it will still be released on the GameCube.
In addition, Fils-Aime confirmed that the current DS model will be phased out sometime between August and September, to be replaced exclusively by the DS Lite.

Doesn't make a lot of sense, unless they plan on marketting it with the tagline of "Play it on Revolution!"
It might not only be the last good GCN game, it might be the last GCN game, period.

Do you want the game to be finished and polished or do you want the game right now, bugs and all?

It's possible the game will have additional features when played on Revolution instead of GameCube. Thus, it'll encouraging peoeple to upgrade from GameCube to Revolution. Just speculating...

Makes perfect sense to me. Who cares? Gamecube owners will have their Amazing Zelda, Revolution owners will have a great traditional game to start their console's life, and Nintendo will continue to hook up a syphon directly to my bank account. It a good thing we've got going here ;)

I just wish Nintendo would pick realistic release dates so that they wouldn't push them back so much. It doesn't piss me off any. Genius takes time. But it really harms their reputation in that regard.

At anyrate, I'm upset, but:

He's right, but I have a feeling that this game could produce orgasms in the players and it will still catch a bunch of "We had to wait so long for *insert generic complaint*!" I have my DS, so I can wait.

For some time it has been my intention to put aside $50 cash in an envelope marked "Zelda:TP", but I have yet to do this because there are so many other good games coming out that need my money during the wait. As soon as Nintendo has a definite release date I'm marking the envelope and setting aside the money for a Zelda pre-order. In the meantime, I'll continue to enjoy my pile of unplayed games, while adding more games to the pile thanks to this excellent site. My gaming life goes on, Zelda or no Zelda. ;)
I bet this will be a 2-disc game. What say you?

I'm officially bored with updates on the new LoZ release. Totally not excited or interested even to the slightest degree. Somebody give me a call when they confirm pre-order bonus discs or other promos.
In the meantime, I'll be finishing Chibi-Robo tomorrow and continuing with the DS hilarity.

So I guess the more important question is...what is being 1st party published from April until Autumn? After Odama, there is nothing.
Will I finally see DK3? I certainly hope so. Giftpia? Ah, a kid can dream. Anyone got ideas?

Yeah I think Nintendo show start releasing more DKas. They made different versions for different zones so just release a few more.
Doshin the Gaint is already in English, just release it in the states. Then do Giftpia during the summer.
Nintendo can just release games they already made, but seem to dumb to do that. They didn't want to release Advance Wars and Animal Crossing everywhere and look at the huge hits they became.

Isn't Kirby's new adventure being released this year?

I didnt think this was speculation? I thought this was confirmed.

I still maintain that given Nintendo's historical marketing tactics, they will instead re-release Zelda with the Revolution features thus forcing players to buy another copy.

Well, now it's kinda confirmed in a vague, Reggie-type way:

Was about to post this.
Here's hoping it isn't half assed. At this point we've essentially takced on 9+ months of dev time onto a game promised last November, and if I don't see full on Rev capability in all aspects of the game, I'll be pissed. Link Goes Fishin' just isn't going to cut it for me.

I wouldn't expect that much... in that case they'd basically have to have created two games to handle that radically different control scheme. It will still be a GameCube game and I doubt the whole delay has been in order to add Rev functionality.

Just an observation, but maybe you should try reading all the posts above yours before you post something ignorant. Not one of them were complaining... simply stating the facts.

It's been announced, but I'm not particularly enthused about it. A good rebuttal, but it doesn't make me any less disappointing. Time to start dealhunting for a PS2 I guess.

I was reading in one of these Reggie interviews today that in order to play GC games on Revolution, you HAVE TO use a Gamecube controller.
So doesn't that kinda debunk the whole "Special controller what-not for Zelda on Revolution" rumor?
But what if the preorder bonus this time around was a Gold Wavebird controller with a Triforce on it? *drool*

No.
Next question! :-p
Nintendo I thought came out several times that Zelda will work with the Rev. From what I gather every other GC game will need to use a GC controler.
