View Full Version : Chronicles of Riddick - Do you think it will be any good?

Vin Diesel has been in some stinkers recently. XXX and Fast and the Furious were pretty laughable, but I thought Pitch Black was his best movie yet.
I'm hoping for the sequel to be pretty cool, too. I don't know a whole lot about the story, but from the trailer I've seen, the beginning looks almost like a parody of Lord of the Rings. You know, the old lady who looks like she's wearing Elvish armor?
I just saw some stuff on the site, www.chroniclesofriddick.com and it seems really cool. There are these things called necromongers that are tearing shit up and they have enemies that can destroy them (can't remember their names). I don't really know how Riddick plays out in this, but it looks damn good so far.

When I first saw the commercial for this, I thought it was the sequel to pitch black, cuz of his eyes and his badass attitude supposedly. So, i'm gonna give it a shot. It looks more promising then XXX.

Yeah, I think it is the sequel. But I don't know what the timeline is compared to the first movie, so it could be a prequel.

They were going to make a sequel to Pitch Black (which was a good movie) but then they realized that everyone liked his character and wanted to know about him so they are making several movies about his adventures. I guess it's a sequel but it follows him leaving the planet. How can you make Pitch Black 2? Everyone died.

But they aren't ignoring what happened in the first movie, are they? I would hate it if they acted like the first movie never happened.

From Yahoo Movies:
Premise: The further adventures of Riddick (Diesel) continue five years later, as the escaped convict with the ability to see in the dark finds himself caught in the middle of a galactic war between two opposing forces, with the key figure being the Lord Marshal (Feore), the leader of a sect called the Necromongers waging the "10th Crusade" in the 26th century. Helping Riddick is Aereon (Dench), the Ambassador of the "Elemental" race, who helps Riddick unearth the secrets of his origin and Kyra (Davalos), who has grown up since Riddick knew her as a preteen girl in the first movie. Attempting to free himself and Kyra from a subterranean prison, Riddick ends up on board the Necromonger flagship, where he gets his chance to face off against the Lord Marshal in a battle over the future of all beings in the galaxy, both living... and dead.

Uh oh, the little girl grows up. I wonder if they will have some sort of romantic scene. I hope not, though, these movies should have zero romantic scenes and just have 100 percent kick ass!

as far as the game goes-yeah it's gonna rock! I played a demo for it and couldn't stop. It was a short demo but still, damn!
EGM gave it real high scores like 8.5-9.0. Damn good for a movie property!
As far as the movie goes, it's suppossed to be a prequel. But that was also the last pitch I heard before I didn't care anymore. I'm gonna see it prequel or sequel. The game is a prequel to Pitch Black because in the movie they talk about him breaking out of Butcher Bay...

I never realized his past was a mystery. I thought he was a convict. I do remember after the movie came out there was talk about the sequel, then there was a trilogy of chronicles and even a prequel. It was all based on his life.

As posted on a thread about the game in the Xbox forum, I didn't see anything special about the demo. The stealth kills were cool, and the ability to shoot out the lights was cool as well. But I didn't see anything to get excited about.

I dont remember from the first movie that he has a mysterious past, what is he goin to be the last son of krypton or maybe the bad guy is his father. I hate cheesy crap like that, it so convienant that this planet holds some secret to his alleged mysterious past. LAME

XBN gave the game a 9.0 out of 10, saying you can put that theory of movie license game having no heart, because they said it has the best graphics, and shadows better then Pandora

I climbed up on the balcony that was to the right of where you enter, using the crates to get up high enough. Then just peeked over and kept shooting the mech where I thought the driver's head was most likely to be. Not sure if I hit a weak point, or just blasted him enough to make him drop.

Pitch black was good, but I don't think this one will be.
It looks like they are trying to make XXX with ridick this time. Lot's of flashy stunts and other BS.

I did think that it looked good (the movie that is)...until I found out it was only rated PG-13.

Heres the storyline so far:
The game takes place before the events of Pitch Black at Butcher Bay. He then gets picked up and is being transported, that's where the movie comes in.
Most people have seen Pitch Black, so yeah.
The events in The Chronicles of Riddick take place 5 years after Pitch Black. He's just a drifter, and ends up on this planet where hell is breaking loose. That's where the movie starts.
Simple. AND IT'S RATED PG-13?! WTF?!

Who cares if it's rated PG-13? So there's probably not a lot of cussing and no boobies. Maybe not a lot of blood, either. To me, that doesn't necessarily make a movie good.
The storyline between the necromongers and the other race sounds pretty damn good to me. Riddick's role in between them is what is going to make or break the movie.
I absolutely love the idea of him being a villain. That makes for a lot better dialogue and better angles throughout the movie, IMO.
I want him to stay bad throughout the movie, though, and only do "good" when it benefits him.
The movie looks really dark and the necromongers look really scary. I'm really hoping this movie will rock.

I'm just sick of movie companies catering to children. I understand that's where the money is, but whatever happened to making a movie for adult (or mature) audience? It's fine when the movie is intended for a younger audience (i.e. Spider-man), but I'm sure they had to cut parts out of C. of Riddick to get the rating (especially considering that Pitch Black was R). I'm not down with that.

Hmm.. probably. He's got a point, if the movie is better rated R, they should leave it, not cut out the good scenes.

I can understand that, but I think the movie will still be geared towards adults more than kids. I bet the DVD will have all the good stuff that may have been edited, though.

I ran around to the elevator and activated it. It took me up to another room, and I went from there...
