Is the gameplay faster in the actual game than it was in the demo?
I picked it up on the way to work. I'm at work now, though, so I won't be playing it 'til tonight.

Ok So I played 1 Fight so far on Live! It was great. We started off very fast. I was throwing a hella lot of punchs for the first 4 rounds. By the 5th my guy was super tired. Its a 10 round fight. I really like it so far. The only grip is that Once I get him in his dazzed state, all he did was wrap me up and then after 2 secs off that he wasn't dazed anymore. I got him dazed then back off and was gonna throw a uppercut but rig tin the middle of my uppercut when I was about to hit him he wrapped me up again like I never even threw the punch. I like it so far.
Im gonna be playing a lot more on Thursday and Friday. So i'll have more On and Off line Impressions.

I got it. It's similar to the demo - meaning it was not sped up. The lighter weight classes do move quicker obviously. I haven't fought a heavyweight match yet, but I did have a Holyfield-Toney fight and by the time it got into the later rounds it was slow as hell. I really wish they would have sped it up just a tiny bit, but....
...regardless, I like it so far. Now, depending on how much value you place on graphics (is it worth 20 bucks?), the XBox version is just as good, if not better (I've heard it is a bit faster, but I'm not positive). Using the 10% off coupon at BB, it wasn't terrible, about 57 bucks after tax. Yes, I bought it because it looked better. I don't always do that, but I like the FN games enough to drop the extra cash to get the best presentation.
Personally I liked the "no HUD" presentation, you really can tell how the guy is getting winded when you are kicking his ass. I went into the Barrera-Morales ESPN Classic fight and went 11 rounds before knocking him out, back and forth the whole time. It was really entertaining. IGN said it's too easy, but I'm playing on medium and don't find it to be that much of a pushover at all. I've fought 6 times and lost twice (and I was a FN2 vet, so I wasn't going in blind), so it can't be THAT east.
Speaking of which, the ESPN Classic mode is no big deal, there's nothing fancy about it other than you unlock the create-a-boxer package for the guy you win with.
Create-a-boxer is pretty much the same as before, with enhanced graphics obviously....a few more new nicknames added this time around, but sadly still no "Stallion." Yes, I'm one of the zillion people who will make a Rocky created boxer; come on, they let you change from southpaw to regular in mid-fight, you almost have to. It's like the law.
There IS "Clubber" however if you want to make Mr. T.
Haven't gotten that deep into create-a-boxer yet, will post again later when I get a guy up and running.
So far - and this is subject to change - if you like the FN games, I'd give it an 8 or a 9. Great game, just not that different from the last one. If you're not a fan of the FN games, I'd lower my score by at least a point, especially due to the slower gameplay.

Win 8 different sponsored fights for a total of 1000 points, an easy 1000 points I'm guessing since the single player is supposedly easy.
I've won the first two sponsored fights and only lost one fight on the way there (very close match)... With that said, the game isn't difficult, neither is it easy.
All of the boxers you face have evidentially different styles and abilities, so you have to conform to a countering style of fighting and blocking each match.
A lot of rounds, for me, started out being hopeless, but I wound up rocking the opponent with combos the latter rounds to pull out a knock-out. A few times, I was getting knocked down quite a bit, but I kept working the left eye of my opponents until the referee ended the fight due to the opponents bleeding -- all the while I was was focusing on blocking, dodging and countering with a right jab, and backing off.
The gameplay changes enough to keep the game fresh.
I give the game a 9.3 / 10. Haven't tried online, yet.

I use Config 3, which I think was default on the demo. That way you can use your haymakers/uppercuts/power punches with the stick, but keep your jabs and hooks on the face buttons. It seems like it would be a pain to go from one to the other in mid-combo or whatever, but it's really not.
I just had a disheartening experience. Got to my first sponsored fight, beat the guy's ass in round 1, including a knockdown. Cut him bad in round 2 and kept it open in round 3. He was pretty exhausted in round 4.
...then he played defense the whole time and knocked me out in round 6. KSDGANKDIGN$(#YN

I wouldn't say it's "too easy" but it's not that difficult on the default setting. I have gotten 5 of the 8 ach. also and haven't lost a match yet, the Ali fight was the hardest match I've had so far. Either way, I'm loving this game so far.

I would recommend it to anyone who wants a new game for their 360

Is there an option to make an online tournament or is it strictly 1-1 fights? And I'm guessing there's no watch mode either where a bunch of people can jump in a lobby, wait out a fight, kind of like DOA4 ('cause matches could go for rounds and rounds).
I'm really tempted to pick this up at Fry's if the online is solid.

Could be pretty cool to set up a league...maybe have an opening tournament (unseeded, obviously), then from there set up rankings based on the outcome. I'm not that great so I'd probably be ranked fairly low, but who cares.
What would really be cool would be set up a league with all custom guys....obviously we'd have to set some parameters so everyone doesn't max out all their stats to 100, but if we said something like 550 points across the board with default or equivalent gear we could probably get something decent going. We'd probably have to trust THE HONOR SYSTEM in some cases (especially on the gear people wear), but I think any dickhead who was cheating would get outed pretty quickly.

Why not max the stats out at 100? It will be more fair since then we would know everyone will be the same and no one will cheat that way. Unless they dont want to use 100 and screw themselves :)

Not really interested in having nearly identical megapowered characters for everyone. If that's what people want though, I guess that's what it'll be. Don't the ratings show up on the matchup screen prior to the fight so you could see if someone's jacked their stuff up?

I don't agree that Config 3 has an advantage or is cheaper than Config 1. Sure, you can combo hooks quicker, but let me tell ya trying to parry on configuration 3 is a bitch. I would have agreed at first, but once you see people of different skill levels I don't think it matters much. I bet the best players probably use Config 1. I'm sticking with 3 for now, but it puts me at a disadvantage in ways I don't like and hopefully I can eventually change, but I don't think I'm coordinated enough. :)

well thats the thing, you pick a dude whos got a lot of stamina, and if you can swing em fast enough, theres no point in parrying anything. And if you get good with switching up combos you cant really get blocked.

I dont counter much. Its hard to counter using config 3. Some of the best players base there entire game off using the counter. So the way i look at it Config 3 isn't that great. It all comes down to how skilled you are. Iam 26-9 in online play. Most people you encounter dont use the counter move. They try to beat you with tons of haymakers and wild swinging. I pick those guys apart. You can also see where the other player has his guard up, so if you keep ducking in and out its harder for him to antcipate where your going to hit him. I can normally beat alot of the counter guys like that. 2 of my losses have come from my INT disconnecting :(. Another loss was when a didn't notice a player picked a custom character, He destroyed me.

A few questions regarding single-player:
I'm still making my way to the first title shot, but once you do that does it still give you the option of moving up weight classes at a later time?
Is there any way to view the stipulations for a fight after the contract has been signed? To get bonuses in some you have to get some KOs during a certain round and after I save and shut off after training, it doesn't remind me what the bonus requirements are so I have to remember it for next time.
Do you eventually fight every fighter during a single career if you choose an already existing boxer? I'm trying to open up Pacquiao's gear, but I chose him as my career guy and was wondering if I meet up with him later on to open up his stuff.
After a career has been "finished" do the unlocked items transfer to the new boxer I'd create?
Thanks.

After you have defended your title a few times, you will move up to the next weight class. You have to remember what the stipulations were. I dont think you can fight your own guy to open his gear. Ive never retired a boxer, so i dont know if gear stays unlocked

I'm still going to play you soon but they way config 3 plays is bunk. I'm not sure if EA threw that in there for people who couldn't seem to work the analog stick since it might be a little too difficult. All you need to do in Config 3 is just hit A button and then another button, it's just can't be the same button you hit the fist time. This reminds me of Arcade Fighter games where kids that had no idea what they are doing just go play and smash every button and whoop ass. No skill involved to me.

Say what you will, but i just beat a guy on level 17. I picked him apart. He was trying to counter the whole match. He wouldn't throw a punch unless it was a counter. I just kept ducking in and out, mixing up my punchs and hitting him at different spots. He was pissed.Oh and you still have to use the analog stick for the upercuts and jabs. The A button is only for the Hooks. I may have an advantage with the hooks but you have an advantage with the counters. So I dont know what all the bitching about congig 3 is. I'am 32-10 now. I never see you playing, always see you playing Final Fantasy.

BTW, I'm not sure on this but doesn't holding jab/hook register as an uppercut in Config 3? So Y/B is a right uppercut and X/A is a left uppercut?

I always use the free trainer. My Ali is really, really strong, but rather slow. I often win fights because my opponent can't continue.

The Burger King guy is free and his specialty is "Heart" though it doesn't really show it in the training rundowns. Your Heart stats are still affected negatively on the sessions. And he only shows up at the entrance.
Working my way to the ESPN PPV Fight (about 25 fights in) and the fights are going longer into the 7th and 8th round for me. I'll probably lose them all if I switch over to Hard.

Why is it harder to parry with config 3? It seems like config 3 still allows you to use total control to punch and parry, but maps jab and hooks to the buttons as an extra. Just wondering...

Probably the way they hold it, claw-style with index and middle finger on the buttons instead of just the thumb. Hard to reach the R-Trigger that way.

Yes, it's called using the Analog Stick. :)
I hope Round 4 will get rid of the Button Config's and force people to actually give the analog stick a try.
More skill? Yes. Button Mashing Config's? Newbie Shit.

I just got my game Wednesday and had my first online match last night...I was De la Hoya and my opponent had Sugar Ray Robinson. He dropped me in the first, and put me in the knockout moment a couple of times in the next two rounds, but I adjusted and pretty much dominated the rest of the fight and finally dropped him late. I ended up taking the decision in the end.
This game is definitely a ton of fun!
If anyone wants to play, just put me on your friends list....I should be on more often now.....

I'm fairly certain this is the config that I'm using. If it is, then haymakers are the small shoulder buttons.
I can't believe how much more difficult this game is when you use total punch control. I've been crusing through career mode since I switched to a button configuration. It also helped to do a couple of tutorials through the sparring training part.
Bump to say I finally got this game and I'm amazed - its fantastic. The demo left me saying "meh" but I'm really having fun with it.
Does anyone still play this online? If so give me an add, and we'll do some boxing this weekend.

I love how the AI becomes a parry machine after a certain point...
did I say love? I think that's a typo. The word is LOATHE. Yes, that's it: loathe.
It's a punishment for jabbing, I'm sure of it.

I wouldn't say that, I'm still able to jab late in fights. It's just a question of picking your spots.

I still get in about 100-120 jabs in a six-round match, but i used to do at least two times that amount. Now I feel like they gave the AI a bit too much in the way of anticipating punches that I go to great length not to telegraph.
Maybe it's just the 99 stamina, 99 chin, 99 body some of these bastards have. I find I enjoy the fights against the real boxers they have spattered in there, since not only do they have normal stats but they fight more realistically. I'll go 8, 9 rounds with Roy Jones or Holyfield and have a real even battle the whole way... even when I lose those fights I had a great time getting there.
The fake fighters are just unbalanced crapfests... it's gotten to the point I just avoid Philly Shell characters because they just sit there and turtle, parrying everything.
(great game, though, seriously)

I still don't agree that config 3 gives some sort of advantage and that the game should be stick only. I've gotten my ass beat by many people using the stick controls. First, its better for countering and the power punches. Sure a couple of novices might give an advantage to the buttons, but the best players are going to learn the stick.
With that said, I don't use the stick because I don't want my controller worn out. The quick motions this game needs are an unecessary wear on the controller.
Would anyone be interested in a tournament/league? If so I'll get more into some of the ideas I have.

Thats exactly why I use config 3. I used to soley use the stick for punching, but after a white ring o' dust started showing up on my controller, I said screw it, switching to buttons, ill be a little slower in my blocking (since I have to move my thumb down to the stick), and I'll use the stick for my power punches.
I'd rather have a working controller than win some extra fights online.

Add me for some fights, I need to get back in practice.
I just got done playing a ton of FN3, and I actually lost twice. It sucks because the only reason I lost is I didn't know how to get up from being knocked down. Finally I figured it out after the second loss.
Also I realized I hadn't been going to the body enough. Now I work the body as much as the face and I'm having much more success with my fighter. I think I'm now 15-2 - all of my wins have been either by knockout or referee stopping it.

I need some more practice on this game, I rented it a while ago and decided to buy it but i haven't had the time to play it. If someone is setting up a league I'd be down to play. just let me know.
