Under better market circumstances, the new titles would sell for around $50, but waning demand forced the publisher to drop prices by 20 percent to ensure stable sales.

"$39 is resonating with consumers given the transition," EA spokesman Jeff Brown told Reuters. "There are indications that $39 is a solid and sustainable price point."

The Xbox and PS2 versions of Fight Night Round 3 also debuted this week for around $40.

EA's price drop apparently doesn't apply to next-generation games, which will continue to sell for $59.95.

Black for PS2 and Xbox are expected to launch February 28, and current-gen versions of The Godfather are scheduled for March 14.

I guarantee that neither of these will be any good.

Black might get good reviews, but so does the rest of the typical FPS dreck that consoles get.

So even though EA's knocking $10 off the price, it still won't be worth it.

its a smart move concidering all the crap games ea has put out and how everyone is hating them for there monopoly ways.Any first person shooter that lacks online play should be like 30 dollars at most anyways.

All are quality products, whether you a fan of the genre / game or not. I also threw in some EA published games, because their name is all over the box and logos, and the game counts as part of their "empire".

Yea, The Godfather will be crap, most licensed games are, but to say they "don't put out quality products" is really just following the trend that "I am a hardcore gamer and I hate EA!"

I'll give you Battlefield 2, but that's it. Most of those games are the crap that are fun for an hour and then become boring and others like Def Jam are straight up terrible.

Black looks like one of the better FPS comming out this year (I can't wait to get my hands on it) but the price drop is mostly due to poor sales of EA games such as Burnout (Black is made by Criterion the same guys who make Burnout).
