Got it earlier, played through the tutorial and I am still sporting an erection. I have to go to work here in a few and it won't go down... What should I do? Just use the "Oh I don't have an erection, it must be an optical illusion" line?

In all seriousness though, this game is awesome and I can't wait to get home tonight so I can play more. Lucky for me, I have the next two days off. :)

this game is a whole lot of fun so far.

I just finished the tutorial part of it and on my way to my first real quest. I'm at such a low level though, got killed by a bandit that I ran into on the way

I did the first "quest" and Im still at level one. Is leveling up suppose to take this long? I'm thinking maybe I should just run around and kill random crabs for a while... I dunno.

You level up by actively toiling away at your skills -- hitting stuff, running, jumping, etc.

Naturally, you wouldn't level up merely by talking to some guy behind a desk (the first quest).

True but I did kill quite a few crabs and 2 people on the way there. Also you kill things during the tutorial also. Is it best to stick with one weapon for a while or does it matter if you switch? What I'm asking is do weapons themselves level up (meaning you should stick with one) or just you? I'm sure I'd find out by playing but right now I'm trying to get this essay done but I find myself browsing the forums more than working on my paper :-(.

Stick with whatever weapon is ideal for your class. I do well with short weapons, so I've been using those. Just look at your character's stats to see what weapon type suits you. This will also help you level up quicker.

By the way, I raided 2 or 3 forts and a couple of caves before I leveled up to 2. I lost count of how many people, orcs, ghosts, skeletons and other creatures I killed just to get to level 2.

they said that even the high end pcs couldn't run it with the soft shadows.

Anyways, my local ebgames that I had my preorder with left a message saying that UPS made a shipping error and I wouldn't be getting the game until tomorrow. Pft, yeah right, like I'm going to wait.. So I just went on over to Best Buy and picked up the CE edition for about $68 after tax and 10% coupon. Everyone was crowded around the Oblivion game holder. I'm about to put it in now! HERE WE GO!

I created my own class. I named it "Ranger." He uses sneak, marksman, blade, block, alchemy, light armor, and security. He's pretty much a combination of a thief, assassin, and archer. I focused on speed and agility since they help with my main skills like marksman, light armor, sneak, and security.
I love sneaking around and sniping enemies in the head with a poisoned arrow.

Ahh... just awesome.

I have the same exact class but instead of block I chose acrobatics.

Something really weird just happen. I am on the quest where I have to go get Martin and so I am at Kvatch at the top of the hill where an Oblivion gate is and I am riding my horse. I must of hit the wrong button or something because out of no where, all of the fucking guards started to attack me. My last save point was at the guy you give the amulet to. :( I'll have to do it all over again. Oh well..

Just depends on your play style... I choose Dark Elf for my class cause they are pretty well balanced in fighting and magic... I like to have the primary focus on strength though b/c I like plundering all the various caves and ruins as much as doing the quests and the stronger your character the more loot you can carry out with you ;) without having to go back and fourth.

I bought Revenge and Oblivion and love them both. PDZ was cool but not worth getting the system for. What level is everyone else at?

I must be doing something wrong. All of the armor provides pretty much the same level of coverage, same thing with swords.. I currently have the Steel Cutlass equipped, along with an Iron Shield. The sword seems extremely weak. It takes many, many hits to even kill civilians, which sucks. Other than that, amazing game. I've played it too many hours today.

I've done that. That's not what I was saying. I want more powerful weapons. My sword is only a 3. I thought i'd be able to kill civilians in one shot, so that kinda sucks. It just takes forever to kill anyone.

Forever = more than 5 hits.

Minor gripe, really, I can deal. Amazing game.

It's late at night and I'm too tired to peruse the thread to see if it's been answered so apologies if it's already been discussed:

What's the save system like? I don't have much time to play now so will I find myself having to devote lots of time to advance and keep the progress to save?

Is there a lot of fiddling around with menus or is it pretty "action" driven control-wise?

Thanks.

Save whenever you want, autosaves quite often. Just hit start and choose save.

Depends on your definition of "a lot". To change armor, weapons, mix items, choose different spells, etc., yeah. But once you're equipped and got armor on and whatnot, there's no reason to go back into the menus often.

I made my Morrowind character strong for that very reason, but this time around I didn't. I figured it wouldn't be so bad with the quick travel and all. Although, it is still a bit tedious.

But anyway, I'm surprised at how many things have been changed since Morrowind. Like, I don't know how you guys are doing money-wise, but I'm finding it much more difficult to get super rich like I did early on in Morrowind. Before, it was easy to simply steal some awesome armor from the guards when they weren't looking. Though now, you can't even sell stuff like that. I suppose they implemented the stolen goods system for that very reason. I mean , I had to sell a bunch of wolf pelts so I could make that little bit more I needed for my first house, but now I don't have the money to furnish the thing. Oh well, I guess I'll just need to work harder.
Well, I played 11.5 hours straight, and now it's time to get some sleep!

I havn't played Morrowind in a loooong time so right now I'm feeling a wee bit confused with different things, but I'm learning.

The quests to me make much more sense unlike morrowind.

Hmmm how do I raise the number of things I can hold? Does that come with level or what?

Even though the quick travel is a good feature, I couldn't help but dislike it at first because I really like the huge worlds this series provides to exlpore... and the huge distances you can travel in this game to get somewhere really add to the immersion factor to this game to me.. I haven't used it yet but as I play more and see more I'll probably end up using it.

You bring up the fact you can't sell stolen goods, I don't really like that either.. but surely I'll find somewhere where I can at some point.

The fact that you can't set how much you are selling somthing for like in Morrowind is slightly dissapointing as well, I used to like starting high and decreasing the price as slow as possible to ensure I got the highest prices (after using all the stuff I had to boost my personality).

It's cool that you already got a house, I'm still looking for one.

All in all, this is the best game I've played in a good while though, definately GOTY material.

So for someone who's completely new to the series is there a character/class that's most advantageous/easiest to deal with?

All this talk about being able to do this and that makes me really want this game. It'd probably the last one I pick up before I leave for the summer. So a good 7 weeks with just this and the other games I still have might justify the $70 price point (for the CE).

Hmmmm I'm not too sure. I picked a Combo between a Thief and a Assasian. I see it as a big advantage being able to sneak and steal basically anythiung you need. Now that I think of it a Battlemage would have been cool job since you can fight with blades and cast magic good also. I would say give a Thief or Battlemage a try.

I just did that online, create an Oblivion character thing. Shit, there's so many options it makes my head hurt. I'm starting to worry that I'll get a into the game and realize I'm blocked from using a certain item or ability and I'll be pissed.

The sneakiness is pretty big for me along with fighting (which kind of goes against each other I know). Someone said strength is a big factor as far as how much loot you can carry. I just don't want to have to trudge back and forth to get everything. At least that's how I understood the post as saying.

When you play other games what style of play do you like? Say in a FPS do you just muscle your way through? Or do you sneak around and avoid confrontation??

That alone will answer what class you need. The older games (daggerfall for sure cant remember on Arena) used to ask you a series of questions then make a suggestion on your chosen answers.

Dont do a theif or mage if you like brute force obviously.

It sounds to me like the rouge class would probably suit you as a good class then; as for a race you' like, I'm not sure, I like Dark Elves b/c they are good with combat, strength, and destructive magic as well.. there are certainly better alternatives if you mainly want a stealthy character.

In Morrowind there where several items you could find or make yourself (especially later in the game) that you could use to boost stats your lacking in signifigantly.. so no matter what at some point in the game you should be able to do pretty much anything you want due to the versatility this game offers as far as improving your character with magic items, I'd imagine this to be possible in Oblivion as well.

I knew there had to be some way to sell those stolen goods, but it still seems a bit silly to say that shopkeepers would be able to tell what goods were legit. I don't really care though because this game could have some of the worst problems, but I would still love it overall.

Blackshear: The haggle feature of price negotiations seems to be pretty similar in effect to Morrowind's. Instead of dealing with the price, you're changing the percentage of the value that he/she will buy it from you for. I kind of like it more, I don't have to keep upping the price on everything I sell. Instead, I set the percentage and sell everything; I know I'm getting the best price I can get for each item from that vendor.

Yeah.

I'm not sure if you need to be a specific class or just good at sneaking, but you can do x times the damage on an enemy of you sneak up on them.

For me, it was 2x, while in sneaking mode, if I hit them long distance with an arrow. I got better at sneaking, and now it's 3x, even if I sneak up behind them and hit them with a blade, or what have you.

I threw a fireball and it was 6x for me, though that only means 30 since my fireball did 5 damage or so.

I've yet to see an open window. I tried to shoot an arrow through the slit in a jail cell but it didn't work.

My sneaking is actually really high, I was able to break in a house via lockpick and steal the belongings while the person slept. I tried to pickpocket him and he woke up, said "What are you doing?!".. then turned around and fell asleep on the bed behind him. I didn't ask questions, I just left and took a horse. Then I had guards after me and bleh.

OK, I picked a Nord, and he is kicking everyone's ass. I stole some stuff from a farmer near Cholla or whatever that town with the C is called, and a guard confronted me about 5 minutes later, and I kicked his ass! I thought, early in this game, you couldn't beat down the guards? My Nord is a beast!

Does anyone if, after you've been chased by a towns guards for murder or whatnot, if they eventually forget about it and let you back into town? Or do you have to serve jailtime? I've gotten into trouble just about everywhere I go ;)

They chase you no matter how far you go, I think! I can never beat them. My guy just simply can't. I'm trying to build him up though. I took a horse, ran across a huge bridge, through a field and found a house with the guy outside. I went inside and started to steal from his desk and whatnot.. about 30-40 seconds later, a guard burst through the door and confronted me.. and promptly killed me after I resisted arrest.

It gives you the option to change the class again before you leave the sewer.

Sounds like one of the big problems with this game is the stealing mechanic. You can steal a horse, with NOBODY around, travel across the entire world, get off your horse, and some random villager will scream "Thief!" and everyone will come out of the woodwork to come and kill you.

I'm not sure.

Oblivion does something that Morrowind did (that I fuckin' hated). If I rob a house in another city, and not get spotted, and go to another city and talk to a guard, that action of speaking becomes me automatically turning myself in. Now, I know it's easy to just not talk to guards... but I got a ton of shit I swiped taken away from me because I had to talk to a guard for a side-quest.

However, I'm not sure if they eventually forget your crimes. I hope so.

In this regard, it seems a lot better than Morrowind, where guards on another planet somehow see the crimes you commit, no matter what. That used to get my goat.

Accidentally stealing shit is way too easy too. All I wanted to do was sit down at the inn and socialize with the merchants and the next thing I know, I go to stand up and find that I've pocketed a bottle of ale. At least it was something cheap.

Makes me think of Morrowind... I hated how, essentially, you had to walk from city to city -- mostly 'cos you walked slow as all fuck.

It's a little faster in this game. Matches the pace...

I only wish there was a button to make the horses gallup. Horse riding feels pretty sluggish.

I broke in by picking the lock during the day and he was standing next to the door as soon as I walked in. Right away he said to me "You should go now". I didn't like his tone so I killed him. Apparently "unseen forces" saw me do it (whatever the fuck that means).

Probably "The Dark Brotherhood".

I guess the only way to join is to murder someone (in cold blood; hence "murder"). They come to you in your sleep to recruit you. So, possibly, next time you sleep, a Dark Brotherhood dude will be standing over you.

I found this church near Bravil. If you look at the map, find Bravil, then to the northeast of it you'll see the words "NIBON BAY".. there's an island right above the 'B' in Nibon. Anyway, it's on one of the shores there. I went in and there were two Necromancers (I think) and a bunch of dead bodies and severed body parts (along with a human heart that I picked up and ate). Anyway, to get to my point.. they have a badass robe. No hoods though. It's just a black cloak with a big red skull on it. Pretty sweet. But again, no hood. I like the robes as well. When you first exit the sewers at the beginning of the game, walk directly across the water and there is a tomb like thing you can go into. I ended up running into a necro in there at the very end. Seems like he was an outcast and that was the only place he could practice his trade.

When you ran into those two necros, did they attack you? The one I ran into tried to dagger me to death.

I'm up to level 5 now with my imperial knight. I ended up getting a full imperial armor set except for the shield off some dead guards. I also just joined the blades right before I got on here.

One thing I have a question about is I walked up to some rocks (in Bravil I believe) standing up in the ground and it asked if I wanted to bound weapons to me or something along those lines. I ended up saying yes and I got a shitty dagger and some gauntlets bounded to me and I could not remove them. I also lost my sword and shield. I didn't know how long this lasted for so I just went back to my last save. Whats the lowdown on those things?

All I can see is my hand and sword. There's no HUD. I can look around, I can spin around, I can crouch, and I can go in 3rd person, but none of the other buttons work. I am not over-encumbered. It's really frustrating. I cannot continue with the game due to this bug and i've put ten or eleven hours into it, so starting over is out of the question. Is it something i'm carrying that's causing this? I tried resetting the 360 and doing that cached trick for the HD or whatever, and still no dice. Well that was surprising. First the fact that I went out and bought the CE to a genre that I normally play. So I pop it in and I'm actually enjoying it. It doesn't feel at all like an RPG. Hated the dungeon crawling in the first part, so it's nice to be out in the world now.

Started off w/ the Nord character type, but switched to the Woods Elf with a custom class suited to stealth play. Can't be a pack rat collecting everything to sell though. Hopefully I can raise how much I can carry later on.

The bigger problem: My character has red hands.

It looked fine in the dungeon and sewer while I was creating him, but once he's in the sunlight, he looks red.

I've played for a total of 7 hours, and I haven't even finished the first quest out of the sewers. There is so much to do its unbelievable. I've done a quest at the Imperial City and fought in the Arena. This is definitely not a hack and slack game which I am so glad. I just love sneaking up on people and getting that initial extra damage when fighting.

This AI is something else. I was walking around in the countryside and saw a deer. I decided to kill it. I believe I was upwind from it, and the way the deer was reacting it seemed it was smelling/sensing me. I would get closer and it would hear me even in sneak mode and would run off. I finally killed with a lucky shot with the bow. I hit it towards the back leg, so it did not died right away. It ran off alittle bit and finally killed over.

This game is the reason why I bought my 360.......

I'm in the first gate of oblivion. I seemed to hve cleared everything out, yet when I go to the gate thing inside it says something like the door is opened, or another door is opened? I forgot what it exactly said. Does anyone know what to do?? I'm just wandering around, and my sword is two handed so I can't hold a torch to see.
Once you equip a torch then put away your sword (with X Button) then the torch wil come out.

Are you talking about the ruin directly across the water once you exit the sewers? The one where two bandits have a camp outside it? If so, there are quite a few decent things in there... Armor, weapons, and I got about 20 of some mana crystals that are worth 50 a piece, plus there is a stone that is worth 1k in there.Yeah, that's the one. I only found a bunch of weapons in there, some armor and that crystal starting w/ W worth abut 50 each. Didn't find that 1k stone though. Where was that in the temple? I could've sworn I checked every nook and cranny.

You have to go to the top of the tower and destroy the stone that holds the gate open. You might want to go back to town and get a torch too because it is dark in some areas on the way to destroying the stone.

It told me to meet in some garden at the imperial city though..

Pimpinc - you have to steal any one thing and get thrown in jail for it, once you get out a random guy will hand you a note. you might have to sleep for like 2 or 3 hours outside though..

For the thiefs guild go meet him in the waterfront area at Midnight, he's only there around that time. It's near the huts by the pirate ship.

P.S. Scorch I know this doesn't help, but because of how wide open this game is and how much you can do I always have multiple saves to back me up from something like that. Right now I currently have 4 saves, just in case.

LOL You put in 10 hours and your still level 2? You might wanna start over since if you havent leveled to atleast 7-8 by 10 hours then your doing something wrong.

Or, you know, exploring. Some of us like to look around and stir up shit before playing the actual game. I prefer to take my time with games, not rushrushrushrushrush and be the first one to say "OMG I BEET DAT GAEM!". For example, I found a church with necrophiliacs. I wasn't expecting that. There's a lot to explore and I plan on exploring before doing the actual game.

Besides that, i'm not training my guy to be a huge warrior. He's a thief. I ninjaloot then I run like a bitch. I can break in a house, steal everything, then get out before anyone wakes up. I pickpocketed a guy while he was having a conversation and he never suspected a thing.

Yeah, I do. I have one just outside the main gate. I'll just load up a previous save or something. First, i'm going to try stealing the final key instead of beating the final guard.. if it still fucks up, i'll load a previous save.

So does anyone have any tips on lockpicking things that are higher than your skill level? Right now, I'm trying to escape from the prison without doing my time, but my security skill of 36 is way too low to simpy auto-attempt the hard lock on the cell.
I've tried listening for a certain sound or visually trying to guess, but it seems like I just can't get it. Perhaps I should just do the time...

There's another way to join the Thieves Guild:

In Imperial City, read one of the wanted posters for that Fox dude (I forget his name). After you read it, you'll be able to ask people about him. Ask a beggar about him -- the beggar will tell you where you can get a hold of him if they like you 70 points or higher. Just charm them, or whatever; or give them a bribe (since they're beggars).

The beggar will then tell you where you can meet a guild representative (at midnight).

I did it this way, because I'm avoiding jail time.

I can only manually pick locks up to the moderate level (or do they use the word "medium"). Even so, I can rarely do it.

It's hard as shit, that's for sure. I've found that as soon as the tumbler goes up, hitting A just as the pick rests in the keyhole seems to work... then again, it's still hard as shit.

I actually went to jail once (but restarted my last savepoint prior to, and you'll see why...), and broke out of my cell by trying to pick the lock. I failed, but a guard saw me and opened my cell. I thought, "What a dipshit!" Ran by him and ran into - I shit you not - 10 guards who all hit me at once, killing me instantly.

Awesome, I only went to jail so that I could join the thieves guild. Now I'll just load my previous save game and forget about it. Thanks.

EDIT: Actually, I just managed to pick that hard lock. All I did was test the numerous tumblers to see if I could find a pattern in how quickly they fell back down. Each one fell slowly every other time that I checked it. So I just tried to put it in place when I knew the tumbler would be falling slowly, and it was easy. Maybe it was just a fluke, but I was still pretty proud of myself.... but, I'm not going to save over that save game from before the prison because I still have all of those guards to get past.

Well I was doing quests and I ran into another Oblivion gate so I ran in and shut it down. Are these just part of the main story (meaning you have to do them or are they optional?) I know you're suppose to shut down the gates but is there a "MAIN QUEST" mission for these or do you just go find them? After I took the stone and closed it I didnt get a "mission complete" or anything, I just got that stone in my inventory. Thanks!

If I remember correctly from glancing through the guide, you get a +5 bonus to certain attributes, but in order to maintain your state, you have to drink blood (obviously). If you don't, when you go out into the sun, you'll start to lose health slowly and get fatigued much quicker.

So needless to say, I'm robbing every store blind, then selling all the merchandise to Ongar. Awesome. I know I'm not the only one who started out the game with the mindset that I was going to enjoy every aspect of it so I didn't plan on using the auto travel. That changed when I figured out how freakin long it took to get from town to town, even with a damn horse.

I think the thing that pisses me off the most is how easy it is to get arrested. I was at an Inn and I accidently hit the "A" button on an item and picked it up. Some bitch screamed and called me a thief. I was so tempted to slice the bitch in half but I didn't want to make things worse for myself. As soon as I get outside, sure enough, let's go to jail!

The pirates got mad at me when I approached them, so I boarded their ship without them noticing (jumped) and took a lot of crap. I was trying to open the lock to the "Main Booty", but I couldn't quite do it. Where do I find Ongar?

BTW, for people looking for locks, I remember seeing a guy named like Shady John or something outside of the imperiel city and he sold a bunch of "shady" stuff including lock picks.

I hop on top a rock and fire steel arrows down into the Ogre. About 15 enter him, he doesn't die. I make a break for it. I get down to like | | that much health, and cast a minor healing spell on me. Does it usually happen after the game flashes "loading area"? Mine freezes for a few seconds if I'm moving forward too quickly when the game is trying to do that "invisible" loading (without a loading screen). It's like the game isn't quite ready for me to be where I am so it freezes for a few seconds and loads the area. It's a little frustrating, but everyone is dealing with this right? Or at least most quick characters? If not, maybe I should think about cashing in my Best Buy warranty...

Yeah, the gates are pretty cool, and some are even a small type of puzzle because you have to figure out how to open gates and bridges and caves and what not. I definitely recommend the Arena to anyone who is playing who has decent fighting skills in the game. Very fun plus the reward you get once you are Arena Grand Champion is awesome (even though it looks non-masculine). I don't know what you're talking about. Took me about 20 minutes to go through the whole Arena story line with my THF. From pit dog to Grand Champion. I got some super enchanted bow and marksman gear(I've done over 70 quests...which is a lot right now, don't know which quest it was from) which kills everything in the arena with two arrows.

If you are finding the fights too easy and want more of a challenge, you can up the difficulty at any time in the options menu.

Quick question - How do I get diesases/curses off of me? The loading screens mention praying at one of the chapels. Everytime I try that damn altar tells me to repent for my sins. I don't have any bounty on my head at the moment so whats up with that?

Check the difficulty slider in game X. See where it's at if you think it's a little too easy for you-- for some reason mine was all the way up when I started my guy, the first two rats killed me.

I've found this game too hard, if anything. Imps can kill me in no-time, and it usually takes me 15+ arrows or sword swipes. I am a thief Khajiin (or whatever the race is called) and the first Obilivion gate was super-frustrating because I had to heal at least 5 times per fight.

Any tips?

Well, I finally played it today....took a Dark Elf into combat. I made it out of the sewers, wandered around for a bit and that was about it. I'm on my way to deliver the amulet. Seems like I might be OVERwhelmed by this game. I'm not a BIG RPG fan, but I MIGHT be able to get into this. I just have to learn what everything is. I enjoyed FABLE, but it was a bit easier to follow than this. We'll see.....

Good Luck to myself.

I know that enemies scale up with your level, but is it only total level or level of your skills? Say, for example, that I'm level 4 or 5 with all my skills levelled up to Journeyman level -- anyone know which level set they scale up with?

You do know the game scales to your level, right?

Sure But now I have more life and a stronger blade. I went back to the beginning to fight creatures that gave me trouble in the early levels and I just about 1-2 hit them now in which they used to take 11-15 hits. So it really doesnt scale up to your level. Unless the main questing does.

They really don't at the point where I am now. But they are starting to drop valueable weapons and armor that you can sell for money. I say you should start playing it not safe and join the Thief's Guild. Then steal all the items and weapons you want then sell them.

Damn, I'm spending way too much time on this game. All this wandering around though doesn't really help my level. I think 7 hours in and I'm only level 2. Anyway, a few questions:

If you leave behind items, do they usually stay there? I dropped off some stuff at the Weyan Priory (sp?) and also in the abandoned house in Chibodryl (sp?). Or will I have to buy my own house?

Speaking of...how do I buy that house for sale by the river in Chibodryl?

Gotta try out for the Thief's Guild soon I think. Though my lockpicking skills are only at 34 right now and everytime I see a lone person in a back alley I can't bring myself to pickpocket them. There have been a few that I've wanted to just whack in a back alley though for their attitude.

Speaking of murder, damn that's one creepy spot--the back door to the Dark Brotherhood. The music and the atmosphere. Though I can't get in just quite yet. Guess I'm gonna have to find me a target if I decide to go that route.

Played some more tonight. I am now a footpad in the thieves guild after doing the first quest and I found another Oblivion gate. I also went through that dungeon you first see when you come out of the sewers.

I got a side quest in the temple district of the imperial city. Some guy's wife came up to me and asked me to meet her husband at this other guy's house. It turns out theres a group of 3 vampire hunters that want me to help them hunt down this guy that they saw kill someone. Sounds fun.

I went into the Arena for the first time and won my first battle. I thought it was going to be like Gladiator with a big arena and a lot of people in the stand cheering and all that stuff, from what I could see there was only like 3 guys. Does the Arena ever become "packed"?

Well, that last arena fight (to become the champion, not the grand champion) was a bit anticlimactic. You fight a swordsman, archer and wizard/spellcaster. You get the boar to help out. All three charged at me. I swung at the archer and swordsman, the boar charged at the wizard and killed her (which is weird, because it's not set on easy). The archer backed down. I swung a few times on the swordsman, and again, the boar charged, hit the swordsman from behind and killed her. The archer came up from the tunnel (he had retreated down there) and, again, was promptly killed by the boar.

I need to figure out a way to record my game, the most random things ever happen in my game.

I think I screwed up the mage guild recommendation quest. In Choroll, you have to retrieve a book, and you can either give it to the guildmaster and get the recommendation or give it to this other lady outside, and you get a spell. Or, you can get the recommendation, steal it, and then give it to the lady again. But, I don't seem to have that recommendation, and theres no way to get it now.

The book and quest are called Fingers of the Mountain.

Genocidal
03-25-2006, 07:01 AM

If you give her the book first, you can still get the recommendation by stealing it back from her room at the Inn.

dafoomie

I went back to my old save point and tried just giving the mage guy the book and telling the girl I wouldn't steal it, and I still didn't get the recommendation. He said he'd do it, but it still wasn't done.

I tried stealing it back, but theres no option to talk about it at all.

Currently, what I did was give the mage guild guy the book, and supposedly I got the recommendation. Then I stole the book from his room and gave it to the girl, she gave me the notes, and I went to the mountain, got the spell, and closed that quest. There was an option to talk about the book right after I gave it to him, but when I stole it back from her just in case, there was no option.

I've done so much since this point that I'd be better off just starting a new character than going back to the old save point. Its one of those things that really makes me want to put a game down and not pick it up for a long time.

Well, I'm about a level 5, now. I'm a Dark Elf. I just closed my first Oblivion portal, and killed the bad guys at the Wernon Pyroy(sp?) who stole the amulet, and I have to take the guy up to the snowy place. I left him there, though, and I'm gonna go try to become a Dark Brotherhood member, and just do some other stuff.

If I wasn't a Dark Elf, I would have NEVER survived the first Oblivion portal. Their Ancestor Guardian spell saved my ass many times. Its the spell where you can make a ghost type guy come out and shoot some sort of mysticall ball attack at the enemies. It really helped. And the Dark Elves also have a high resistance to fire. Thank god, because EVERYONE in that portal was shootin fire at me. Funny thing. The first guy I met in the portal was pretty cool, and it seemed like he might be in there for the long haul with me. Well, we came upon a bridge, with a bad guy standing on it, and the guy I was traveling with ran across. Right as he reached the guy, all these rocks from the cliff above crashed down on both of them, killing them. I was like, ".........o....k." It was pretty funny, though, although I probably could have used that guy.

Has anyone else found that rare bottle of wine that prompts a quest? I can't recall the name and can't check (I'm at work :( ), but I remember "smash" being in it's name.

Anyway, and this doesn't spoil much, it prompts a quest of merely "try to find out more info" on the bottle of wine. No location, no nothin'. And, to boot, I can't remember where I found it and I can't remember where I put it.

I lost a bulk of my unused (but good) items because I took a bedroom in one of the mage guilds (that became unoccupied, because of a mission -- I don't want to spoil it), and slapped some of my items in there. I went back a few in-game days later, and my shit was gone and replaced with somebody else's shit. I think the bottle was in there. I'm hoping the same wine can be found elsewhere.

I skimmed through the guide and didn't find dick in the Misc. Quest section or the Freeform Quests.

You want to hit "A" on every wedge, yes. The ones they like the least, you want to try and have the smallest wedge percentages fall in those two places. The two they like the most, you want the largest wedges to fall on those. You have to try and choose wisely, as the wedges turn with every selection -- you do get one free spin, however, by pressing X.

I think the exp. goes up merely for attempting it, much like hitting enemies (even if you hit their shield, etc.). I'm 90% certain of that...

Remember that the longer you hesitate, the more the rating decreases. It drops a point every couple of seconds (it might be one second, actually). Don't feel rushed, though, because if you nail them with something they like, it adds quite a few points.

I found out why I can't get my disease cured at temples. I have more infamy than fame. I read you can buy cure disease potions so this is what I'll do, once I find one. Hope this helps someone.

Mix mandrake root and Elf cup cap to make "Cure Disease" potion, if you have those two shits.

There are Elf cup cap plants near Gold Coast near Anvil and West Weald.

Mandrake are at some farms. Whitman farm and Odiil farm.

HAHA! you really are the Slidecage of the 360. I'm not suprised anymore :P Seriously, send that system back to MS (again) and get another one.

Well, I played a bit more today and it was ok....weird, evil sheep maybe.

So, do any of the novice RPG people feel a bit overwhelmed by this game? I think I enjoy it, but it's almost TOO much of a commitment with this game. I like to finish my games and I feel I'll play this here and there, but never finish it....we'll see. I may just need a few more hours to play.

Okay, I got those two. When I try to brew them, it won't give me the option to "Create" (the X button). This is my first time making anything with this alchemy stuff so is there a step I'm missing? I also have all 4 tools for alchemy (I forget the names).
