Okay, I got those two. When I try to brew them, it won't give me the option to "Create" (the X button). This is my first time making anything with this alchemy stuff so is there a step I'm missing? I also have all 4 tools for alchemy (I forget the names).

Gotta be an Apprentice in Alchemy for that potion, it seems.

My quest log says:

...In exchange, Teekeus has agreed to write a recommendation for me. (Choroll)

Skingrad Recommendation
Anvil Recommendation
Cheydinhal Recommendation
Bruma Recommendation

Is there a 6th guild hall that I forgot to get a recommendation from?

Plus, the mages guild quest still says I need a recommendation from Choroll, even though it says right there that I have it.

I think it's the store that's not "Edgar's Discount Spells". I think there are only two magic shops in the town... I think.

Ok guys, stupid question. I made a Crusader, now joining the Arena, Fighters Guild, and posiibly the Dark Brotherhood would seem like givens. I have moderate magic skills and im about as subtle as a nuclear warhead. Should I attempt to join the Mage and Thieves guilds or would it just be futile?

Haha, I'm about 6 hours into the game, and I'm only at Level 2.

I have to say that the first Oblivion gate was kicking my ass, but I finally beat it. I just became a member of the Blades and I'm trying to join the Thieves Guild but I keep getting caught by guards trying to steal the little book.

I am 25 hours in, and haven't even gone to Kvatch yet in the main storyline. I am too busy being the champion of the arena, spelunkering caves for loot, and otherwise exploring the world and doing NPC quests.

Chacrana
03-25-2006, 09:21 PM
Awesome. I became grand champion of the arena. This game's combat is so fucking awesome. Apart from that I'm just trying to be as evil as I possibly can without getting caught. AKA, murdering, stealing, and doing generally bad stuff without anyone seeing it happen. At first, I thought it was cool to steal horses in the middle of the night. But most recently, I thought it was fun to take that annoying fan you get after becoming champion in the arena to the back of a house and murdering him. Killing a female store owner and stealing her clothes is cool too.

To many pages to go thro, but easy question, just started recently.

So I get out of the sewers, explored a little (framerate bad, but I slept alittle till sunrise and it was perfect) and need a way to store/sell the useless stuff I dont need (Good storage location, such as a house or personal safe, but I only have 74 gold.)

Where do I join guilds/how?

What does the little pic captions mean on weapons menu (coin =value? feather=weight sword=damage heart=the items damage)

And how can I increase the storage quickly, other then just working on strength, and how would I work on that?

You need to use Silver or better weapons to kill them.

To join a guild, you have to find it in the local cities around the world. Well, I know that's the case for the Mage's Guild and Fighter's Guild - I'm pretty sure the Thieves Guild comes to you after you steal something.

Yeah, you got it right for what the little pictures on the weapons menu actually mean.

And though I'm not 100% sure of this, I believe the best/easiest way to store items is to buy a house and drop all your stuff there.

Sometimes, you'll need to get info out of someone not-so-willing. This is where persuasion comes in.

About the multiple tumblers... You just press the joystick right to move on to the next tumbler. Is that what you mean?

Anyone having trouble picking locks. I highly recommend doing the Skeleton Key quest. Pretty easy, just got to fight some rat and bears. The Skeleton Key is actually an unbreakable lockpick that adds +40 to your security. Just got it myself.

I'm gonna have to do that.

I was going to resort to the lock picking spells, myself. I have the "Unlock Very Easy Locks" and "Unlock Easy Locks" spells. I'll go for that pick, instead.

I second that. I really didn't want to get the guide so I wouldn't do quests in an unnatural way, meaning that I wouldn't go looking for certain quests. However, that skeleton key would be incredibly helpful.

Talk to a dark elf lady in the Leyawin Mage's Guild. Ask her about "Daedra Shrines". She'll mark "Nocturnal's Shrine" on your map. Activate the shrine and I'm sure you guys can get it from there.

You have to be level 10 to do the quest though.

I'm still not getting the persuasion thing, specifically how to get out of it. I get to a point where it's in the 70s or 80s, but I guess I can't just stop in the middle. It always ends up I have to click on wedges they don't like and it drops down to where it originally was and I just stop. More practice I guess.

This is what I do. Every NPC likes 2 of the 4 choices. I go and hit all of them to see which ones go up and down. Once I see which they like I try to get the Big Yellow Thing on it, the ones they dont like I try to go for the small yellow or no yellow. You do have to do it alll 4 times though like you said you cant stop in the middle.

Ok, im doing the sidequest in imperial city about the guys cheap stuff in his shop, so I folowed the other guy home, broke in, and every time around this area a guard will come in and put me in jail (or loose if I choose to fight back), is that normal for the guy to arrest me?
Then, in jail, whenever I go to waste the prison time on the bed thing, it just freezes. Anybody else.
Nevermind, after about 10 retrys, I decided to just load it in the cell, and delete the hdcache.

^^^Thanks for the link, just did the same thing into the prison armory.

Oh, and is it bad that I sorta lost Martin and Jauffre on the way to that temple in Bruma? Does this mean if I want to do the main quest than I either have to search about 1/4 the entire game for them/start a new character and play strictly the main quest?

One thing I wish they'd change in this game: The characters popping out of nowhere. Fuck it scares the hell out of me sometimes.

Left the castle in Branvil (sp?) when the queen there asked me to find and talk to someone. Loading screen to the town, a brief POV at the level then bam, the motherfucker ends up behind me and starts talking. Shit.

The worst one so far was with the Dark Brotherhood guy. Murdered a guy for the first time and I just randomly went around the game world for a few hours not sleeping. Jumped to bed at an inn I saw, load screen, bam...the fucker appears, eerie voice and all.

One question: Anyone have a list of the "best weapons", how much they cost and where I can find them? I like to keep a mental note of where I need to go back to get them later when I get enough money. Mainly looking for a nice bow to upgrade. I use a dagger and a Claymore (willing to switch to longsword/shield combo though) as well.

03-26-2006, 04:06 AM
Ok here's where I'm at :

About to hit level 9 with 14 hours of playtime down. I think choosing a Mage/Magic Guy was a wise choice because I'm leveling up like a goddamn machine. All I'm doing during fights is using cold touch/shock touch, heal spells, shield spells, bound armor spells, and conjuring spells (mostly zombies and skeletons as a distraction).

But while I'm happy with the pace I'm leveling I'm still REALLY irritated at the lack of gold. I'm getting better weapons now (joining the Mage's Guild and the Blades helped) but other than the Arena, I have no idea how to truly get a decent amount of gold. I'd like to buy a house but I can't imagine ever getting enough gold to do it.

Still, I'm having fun. Concentrating on the Mage's Guild quests and the Arena right now. One warning though, if you do that quest where you have to go into the guy's dreams with the dreamworld amulet, don't try going to sleep while wearing bounded armor. It'll lock the game up. Happened to me three times before I figured it out.

What level are you guys at and in how much playtime?

Same here. Just hit level 10 and I'll have around 2000 gold when I sell the crap I have on me. I know the Arena will give me some gold, but someone on here said they had 30,000 gold. I'd like to know how that's possible without stealing everything in every town and selling it.

Edit : Well I can see that by completing some side quests you can get items which you can sell for some good gold amounts. I just got a Spelldrinker Amulet and a Ring of Eidolon's Edge that both can be sold for 2,000 + gold. Still don't get the whole 30,000 gold thing, though. :)

Im a level 2 with 1200 gold. All I do is just find stuff and resell, then I betted on the arena once for 25 (try 100, then if you dont win just reload, wil try that later) then I won once in the arena, and the rest is just from exploring, stealing and pickpocketing.

BTW, I was playing in waterfront, my 360 then just became quiet, the dvd stoped. Then a little screen poped up and said it cant read it, clean the disk and restart the xbox. The disk is perfect condition, must be my 360.

I started the game on the PC and the first thing I did was hit the elven ruin across the river. In there I found about 20 magic gems worth 50 and a major magic gem worth 1000. So I haven't hit a city yet but I'm walking around with several thousands worth in gold. I'm only going to sell some of it though.
I know the gems can be used to recharge magic items so i want to hold on to a few.

Here's the trick to leveling. Pick 7 major that you will use a lot. For example, here's the class I made. It's made for balance.

Race - Breton
Sign - Lady
Class - Hunter
Main Stats: Str, Will
Focus: Stealth
Major skills: Heavy Armor, Block, Bladed Weapons, Security, Restoration, Destruction, Speechcraft.

If you want to be a power leveler you want to take skills you can self train. I kinda balanced it. The three weapon feats will go up when I get in combat, and they've been going at a pretty good pace. The two spell skills I can traiun on my own and I'm using them a lot.

Speech and security somewhat go against being good skills for leveling. But because I took stealth as my focus they'll go up faster than other skills. Also, I can use speech on any people I come across. The only one I cna't do as will is security. I gotta wait till I find locked chests and such. So it might have been a bad choice. It might have been smarter to go with steallth, which I use constantly.

As for stats, it seems like it's dependent on your secondary skills. For example, your main stats of you class can always go up at a min of +2. Your secondary stats always go up at +1 min. But if you raise a minor skill that is tied to a stat between levels, you get a bonus.

For example, after level 3 but before lvl 4, say I raise my athletics and light armor. Those are tied to endurance. When I hit lvl 4 normally my plus to endurance would normally be 1. But because those two minor skills tied to endurance were raised, my plus may be +2, 3 or even 4. So if you have a stat you want to raise in particular. focus on minor skills tied to that stat in between levels.

Spelunking caves and raiding forts is a sure fire way to get some gold and weapons, gems and other garbage to sell for high prices.

Once you've raided a cave, tomb or fort, you can return and there'll be more assholes to fight down there. Not sure what the timeframe of that is, though. I think caves stay empty, actually. I've returned to numerous forts and they've had tougher baddies in them.

There is actually I side quest with that gem you find in the elven ruins just across from the sewers. The one that is worth 1000 gold. If you sell it to the stone seller in the Imperial City, a random servant will come out of no where and tell you his master want to meet you about the stones. Well, it turns out there are more of those 1000 gold stone and he wants you to get all of them for him.

Im wondering the same thing, about any house. Whats the point of the items that are worth nothing? Do you decorate your house with them? What can you do when you get the house?

For now, I just store all my stuff in a box next to the prision, its all still there, so that works for storage. Dont understand the point of the 0gold items.

Has anyone else found the fort with - literally - 10 or 12 Necromancers in it? Holy fuck, was that tough.

It was worth it, though. One of the Necromancers had enchanted shoes that allow you to walk on water for as long as you wear them. The other Necromancer's had a ton of enchanted staffs and even some glass weapons.

I'll try to find the location when I go home. It's a really tough fort, though. I think I did well with a mixture of sneaking / sneak attacks, destruction magic and the staffs I took from ones I killed -- along with my own blades.

I found an Easter Egg in the game: the character M'aiq the Liar, from Morrowind.

He's almost impossible to find, because he runs (and fast) across the entire world. You'd literally need to be in the right place and the right time to find him. I spoke to him, and all he had to say was something like, "I don't see the point of burning a building down." And he ran off. Weird.

Yeah, that's a good cave.

I'm doing much better on gold now - mostly because there's a mission for the Mage Guild to go and take out some vampires and some vampire hunters. Well the vampires drop some really NICE stuff when you kill them. I managed to go from about 3 thousand gold to 13 thousand gold just from that mission and finishing off the Arena challenges.

After you read the wanted poster, you'll be able to ask people about it. Ask a beggar about it (Gray Fox, or whatever the Hell his name is -- I can't remember). You might not be able to ask them about it, so persuade them so they like you 70 points. You can do this by bribing them, or just persuading them. Once it reaches 70, you can ask them about the poster and the Fox guy -- they'll give you info on who to see to join the Thieves Guild (promting a quest).

After I finished the quest, the haunted manor looked like new again... and all of the shit I stored vanished with the renovation.

Thakfully I saved. Gonna do it all over again after work...

I bought that house last night and now I have to find the guy I bought it from. Those ghosts were really pissing me off... but looks like a nice house for only 5k.

Dont forget to go to sleep, the little arrow will point up on the hud indicating you can level up. I can, I just dont want to right now.

What stats do anyone recommend to level up, out of the 3?

well I have just been using random magic spells on myself or a summoning spell while im walking around . If I am correct you level up when one of ur main skills go up 10 times . hmmm I have been doing conjunction magic kept summoning a skeleton , the other spells I used were dispel magic and another protective magic that boost ur defense .

It depends on your skill set that you use often thats all . I think you would level up easier with a magic user than say a theif . I would experiment and just use a skill and then check your stats to see if it goes up or not

See I'm not sure if your just walking around and checking the game out or not but maybe when you picked your class or made a custom class you choose the wrong Major Skills that you might not use. Your Dude will only level when 10 major skills gain points ( basically when each Major Skill mini levels up). As you can see if you don't use the skills your dude of course will not level. Good Luck Bro and remeber to use all of your major skills.

I'm a Thief and I level just fine. At level 19 currently. I say its very easy to level just go raid some forts and shit. You'll gain Stat Boosts which will make you level, weapons, armor, and gold. Can't go wrong with raiding a fort or cave.

Does anyone know who is selling the house in Bravil? It's the building next to the archer's shop. I need somewhere to store my stolen goods :DNot familiar with the city names yet, but is that the one with the log cabin houses and the guilds on the second level? It's just north of the Imperial City I think.

If that's the one I'm thinking of, then you have to go talk to the queen or something in the castle up the stairs. She'll be up on the throne, but if she's not in there then just leave the castle then come back in. She'll say you have to tallk to one of her assistants first and he should be right outside once you leave the castle. Then you can go back inside the castle, she'll give you a quest and you'll finally have the option to buy the house for 10,000 gold.

Alright, well I just closed my first Oblivion Gate 7 hours into the game and still a level 1 character. Anyone wanna fill me on how I could become a level 2? Level 1 is sweet, but why not double my pleasure? Also, I hid a ton of stuff in a barrel knowing I was about to be arrested(big fine, couldnt pay it, didnt want to run any ore...) well my question is, since the stuff that was in the barrel disappeared(all I want back is an armor set) any chance of me retriving my stuff again?

I don't think you can hide items in barrels. I do know that if you just drop stuff someplace, it's probably gonna stay there. I dropped a couple red robe things in front of the Marketplace in the Imperial City, and 32 game hours and 90 some game days later, they still sit there.

There are spoilers, so read on at your own risk. This guide is complete however, offering full direcions start to finish, including tracking down hard to find incgreadiants. I will split it into two posts, it is to long for one. Enjoy!

****SPOILER ALERT*****

The Complete Guide to the Vampire Cure

Prerequisit: Before starting off on your journey to curing your vamiprism, I highly reccomend you join the Theives guild. You will be doing alot of sneaking, lockpicking, pickpocketing, and stealing. You will level up in the Theivies guild which will make this easier, and most importantly, you will have access to all the lockpicks you could want via fences. They have 101 to sell you each day, and your going to need them. Also, you can clear your bounties in the theives guild for cheap, and not loose your stolen goods. Since your going to risk getting caught alot, this will come in handy.

Quest - A Cure for Vampires

There are a number of ways to iniate this quest. Here is how I did it: I went to Cheydinhal's Chapel of Arkay, though any chapel should do. Talk to someone in there about a cure. They will start you on the quest.

The first step in the quest is to talk to Raminus Polus about a cure. You can find him in the Arcane University located in Impereal City. He will tell you a bit about it, and refer you to Count Hassildor. You can find him in Skingrad. Talk to his stuard, then eventually he will talk to you. He will tell you about how he and his wife are vampires, and while he lives with it, she could not, and went into a coma. He needs the cure to get her out. He then tells you about witches long ago who could do it, and about one of them which may still be alive.

You can find the witch along the Corbolo river, which is east of the Impereal City. Here is where the fun begins. Before she will help you, you have to help her. She requests you bring her five empty grand soul gems. These are tough to find, and this is where your Thieves guild work is going to come in handy. Before working on this, go get some lockpicks from your fence.

Gem One: This is an easy one. Go to the Impereal City Market District. Find the Mystique shop. He has one gem for sale. Four to go.

Gem's Two - Four: Your lockpicking skills better be up to snuff now. Head to Arcane Univerity. Best to go at night, you will be theifing. Go inside, and on the first floor there is a chest with three Gems inside. All are Grand gems, but I believe two of them are not empty. Take them all wayways. Its a level 5 lock, so your going to have to work at it, but its worth the effort. Make sure no one sees you. Once you get it open, take them all.

Gem Five: Head to the Chorral Mage's Guild. Inside, there is a staircase, and display cases to the left and right. The one to the right looks tempting, three gems inside. None are grand though, save your picks. The one the left has one though. It's another level 5 lock, so good luck to you. Once you get this, you have five, but two probably aren't empty. No matter, the hard part should be over.

Gem Six: Head to the Bruma Mage's Guild now. Walk straight in and slightly to the left into their little shop. If the shopkeep isn't there, wait for her. When she comes back, barter with her. She's got an empty gem. If you don't have money, you can try to pickpocket it off her, but I found it easier to just buy it.

Gem Seven: Head to the Cheydenhol Guild now. To your left and down the stairs, talk to the shopkeep. Same as before, buy it, or try and pick it from her if you wish. Congradulations, you now have your five emptys, and your probably a pro at lockpicking by now.

Go visit Melisande again now. She will take your gems, but you aren't done yet. She says she can probably make the cure, but you need a slew of ingreadiants. She asks you to find six Garlic Cloves, five Nightshade Leaves, 2 BloodGrass Shoots, The Blood of an Argonian, and the dust of the vampire Hindaril. Collect the first three items first. Much like the gems, this can be quite tedious. Below you will find locations for all the ingreadiants you need.

Garlic Cloves: These are fairly easy to find. Many Alchemy shops, Inns, and Mages Guilds have them. Just work your way from shop to shop until you have six. I know that the Alchemy shop in the Impeareal City has one. I also found two in an Inn in Chorral, and they restock every few days. This should not be to hard.

Nightshade: This proved to be the hardest. First, head to Impereal City, to the same Alchemy shop you got your Garlic. She should have two. After a few days, she will restock one more. After that, she will have no more. That gives you three. A fourth one can be found from the shopkeep in the Corral Mages Guild. Go purcahse that. That leaves one more, or two if you do not feel like waiting a few days for the Impereal City shop to restock. For these you will be hearding to Cheydinhal. Quick travel to the west gate, and then exit the city through the west gate. Turn to your left and follow the cities wall until it ends. Now look to your left, you should see a large right with a tree to the right of it. Next to that tree, you will find a Nightshade plant. To your left, there is a lake, and you should see some old pillars across the lake. Swim across to them. Now face South, and follow the edge of the lake until you come to a tree with small rocks on either side. You will find a couple different plants up against the tree, one of which will be Nightshade.

BloodGrass: This is the easiest part of your quest. The Alchemy shop in Impereal City has four, so buy two of them, and your done. If you are feeling like that was to easy, this stuff is all over Oblivion. Enter a gate and grab some. Your choice.

Blood of an Argonian: Melisande gives you a special dagger or this. You don' need to kill them, just give thema good stab and hide so the gaurds don't nab you. For those of you who don't know, an Argonian is the lizard looking people.

Hindaril's Vampire Dust: If you are at a decent level by now, this should be a breeze. At level 5, this was a cakewalk. Go to the location on your map. It is pretty straightforwared navigating your way there. Once inside the cavern, you will have a few things to pick off before you get to your vampire. I ran into a few rats, a few skeltons, and two lesser vampires before I got to him. I made short work of them all. Hindaril was the easiest of them all though. He did not use a weapon at all, he tried to kill me with his fists. I made short work of him. Maybe I just got lucky, but this was far from difficult.

So, you now have everything. Take it all back to Melisandre. She will tell you she can prepare the cure, and to come back in 24 hours. This is it. Go enjoy your last night as a Vampire. Feast on everyone you can get your bloody hands on. Then go take a nap. The next day, pay your friend a visit again. The cure will be done. Feel free to drink it. You are now officially cured, but your quest isn't over. Remember the count? Head back to Skingrad and pay him a visit. You will be taken to the place where his wife rests. Melisandre will be there also. After a bit of dialouge, he gives her the cure, but it kills her. He requests you give him 24 hours to greive. Go back into the Count's Mansion and just wait for 24 hours. Same as before, talk to the Count. He will thank for you putting his wife at ease, and reward you with 500 gold. The quest is now officially complete. Congradulations!"

Join the Mage's Guild. When you go around trying to get recommendations from them you'll find Grand Soulgems everywhere in the local Mage Guild chapters.

How are some of you guys level 10 and shit? I've put in about 10 hours and I'm only level 2! :(

You're not using your major skills enough. For example, I'm a Mage, so during battles all I really do is use magic. I'm level 15 now with 20 hours put into the game and I keep leveling at a pretty quick pace. If you put stealth, for example, as one of your major skills and you aren't using stealth, well, it won't help at all.

In your house you start with a table and a bed, that's all. All I bought were some storage bins (a chest and two dressers) and some wall hangings. I store stuff there (mostly ingredients and things to sell later) and level up there or waste time there if a mission requires me to "come back" at a later time.

No need, as long as you have 2000, You go to the Market District, then in the Office of Imperial Commerce, and persuade the lady to know you and sell the house.

Should bundle this info up into a post for reference.

Vanilla, do you notice a drop in framrate every now an then, like jumping, or viewing lit areas? Happens all the time, but its not bad. When I first got out of the sewer fps was probably single digits, just waited a couple of hours for sunrise and it was better.
I also got a unreadable disk error, and several freezes on a quest in jail as I attempted to sleep the time away.

Guilds

If you were wondering how to join a guild, you've come to the right place! This means you, Thieves Guild hopefuls!

Mages Guild: Mages can join in any town and begin gathering recommendations. Once all recommendations are earned one can enter the Arcane University in the Imperial City, home of enchanters and powerful trainers.

Fighters Guild: Although there are chapters in every town, seek entrance to this guild in Anvil, Chorrol, or Cheydinhal.

Thieves Guild: There are no chapters to find, but rather several alternative means of gaining admission. The simplest is to read the wanted posters of Gray Fox, then butter up a peasant (persuasion/bribes/charm) and ask about this notorious thief.

The Arena: Easy, it's right there on the map, in the heart of Imperial City. Go down into the Bloodworks sometime during the day and talk to Owyn.

Dark Brotherhood: You don't find them, they'll find you. Considering the nature of this sinister cult, you might pique their interest in you by committing a murder in cold blood. And I always feel a bit sleepy after a senseless killing, don't you?

Fight Club: Sorry, I can't talk about Fight Club.

Houses

You, yes you, can buy your very own house in any of the major cities of Cyrodiil! Most of the time, you'll have to butter up the person selling the house before they're willing to offer it to you. Prices, however, are non-negotiable. Here's the nitty gritty of it:

Imperial City: The Waterfront Shack costs 2,000 gold. Talk to Venicia Melissaeia at the Office of Imperial Commerce in the Market District.

Bravil: The House for Sale costs 4,000 gold. Talk to Count Regulus Terentius in the Castle Bravil Great Hall.

Anvil: The Benirus Manor costs 5,000 gold. Talk to Velwyn Benirus at The Count's Arms and complete his quest.

Leyawiin: The House for Sale costs 7,000 gold. Talk to Count Marius Caro in the Castle Leyawiin County Hall.

Bruma: The House for Sale costs 10,000 gold. Talk to Countess Narina Carvain in the Great Hall at Castle Bruma.

Cheydinhal: The House for Sale costs 15,000 gold. Talk to Count Andel Indarys in the Cheydinhal Castle County Hall.

Chorrol: Arborwatch mansion costs 20,000 gold. Talk to Countess Arriana Volga in the Great Hall at Castle Chorrol.

Skingrad: Rosethorn Hall costs 25,000 gold (requires 15 Fame). Talk to Shum gro-Yarug in the Castle Skingrad County Hall.

I had 2 after me and all I kept doing was dodging, use a good fire spell, and swinging my sword like a psycho. Eventually, with some help from my own zombie that I summoned, they both went down. Hell of a fight, though.

Yeah. I just killed them, that's the only way I could figure out how to do it. Then I paid the fine when the guard came to arrest me, and went and killed the next one.

That's the mission that finally turned me around. The vampires drop some great stuff - love those glass weapons.

Heh, right now I'm kinda cheating. I need to get my Alteration skill up to 75 so I can create the "Open Very Hard Lock" spell. So I'm standing in a corner casting "shield" on myself over and over and over.

I guess its a cheap way to level up (since as a Mage guy I could just do the same thing with conjuring or whatever), but oh well. I'll never be able to pick locks, thank Christ for spells that'll do it for me.

I just did it, all I had to do was tell their leader where the vampires were. I went the next day, they were already there fighting them, they all died and they killed about half the vampires. I made about 10 grand off that place, and upgraded my armor and weapons, had to make 3 trips just to get all the stuff out of there.

To whoever has done the houses, which one would you say is the best? I took a look at the one in the imperial city, its cheap, but its just a little shack.

That was the way to do it in Morrowind. If you really want to be cheap about it, create a spell in each magic type that does almost nothing and costs almost no mana to cast, and have it cast on yourself. You can even cast fire damage on yourself and raise your destruction level that way.

I wouldn't say its cheap, the mages in the mages guild do it, you're just practicing your spells. I think my Alteration is at around 80 now, thats by far the easiest one to do.

Thats what I just did. Theres a few ghost bodies laying around still, but thats OK. And the secret altar area is still there with the coffins and bones, but you can close the door and ignore it.

Seems like its harder to decorate in this than in Morrowind, you can't drop things on a specific place anymore, they just fall from about 10 feet and bounce.

I sent you a PM. Just in case anyone is having problems I'll try my best to explain where it's at. It's a Dark Elf lady in Leyawin Mage's Guild. If she doesn't bring up the topic of Daedra Artifacts you can just walk to the spot.

If you leave Leyawin heading East and follow the road heading North you should find "Nocturnal's Shrine" a little to the left where of the "b" where it's says "bounty something" on the map in light letters.

I'm gonna try and find a map online to pinpoint it.

As in decorate Animal Crossing style? Or do you just mean find things you like and drop it out of your inventory?

I'm not sure if you can precisely place objects, but the LB button grabs things. Haven't actually tried that on items only dragging dead bodies around, which is mightily amusing btw.

Where's Anvil btw coming from the Imperial City? I can't find it on the map...is there a way to zoom out on that? I think I'm gonna have to get the strategy guide for this. I hate having to search around for particular people, too.

You can do that, but you should do it only if it's not a major skill for your character--- if you level it up too much, you'll miss out on all the multipliers (Minus Willpower, I suppose) for your levels.

Strange how that works out, but it's better to practice your minor skills to get the 4x-5x multipliers and then use the major skills to level up when you have what you want complete.

Though I suppose if you're not really concerned about leveling stats up to the max- then it isn't all that important.

I caved and bought it yesterday. I had a gift card saved from Christmas so it was basically free. I played through the first part of the game and escaped the sewers and I have to say I am intrigued to see what's out there. I was tired last night so I turned it off to go to sleep but I've been thinking about it all day today and I can't wait to get home and play some more. I hope I can figure out what the heck to do because the amount of items and everything seems overwhelming right now.

I really don't like RPGs even though I've played the better parts of FFIII, FFVII, FFVIII, Paper Mario and few others but this one seems different. The first person combat makes it feel more like Zelda and less like a dungeon crawling leveling up borefest.

Hopefully I can get into it - I love reading the stories people are telling about their characters because I know everyone will experience the game in a different way. It really is a brilliant way to design a game - imagine if Hyrule was this big and this open ended.... mmm...

If there's anyone who hasn't started yet and is trying to do all the guild quests, I'd recommend waiting to join the Mages' Guild until after you beat the Thieves' Guild line of quests, unless you want to have to do this lame quest to get back in :bomb:

If you want some advice :

Follow the storyline up until you have to go close your first Oblivion Gate. You'll be offered the chance to join the Blades, and you'll get some decent armor/weapons for free.

At that point the best way to get more gold and upgrade your weapons is to join a Guild and follow those quests. I did the Mage's Guild first and ended up with a ton of gold and really good stuff by the end of it.

Also, and I don't mean to post three times in a row --

I found an Easter Egg in the game: the character M'aiq the Liar, from Morrowind.

He's almost impossible to find, because he runs (and fast) across the entire world. You'd literally need to be in the right place and the right time to find him. I spoke to him, and all he had to say was something like, "I don't see the point of burning a building down." And he ran off. Weird.

I found him too, outside of Anvil. He said something about "feet are for landing, hands are for slapping, but also for..." I don't really remember what all he said, but then he ran off.

Anyway, as soon as I do the deed and leave town, the game freezes. It's done this three times now. I have turned off the 360 for about an hour and came back and tried again, and I get the same problem. I've also tried to warp and to wait, and it still keeps freezing.

I've determined my character is worthless. I'm lvl 8 and I can't kill most bi-peds with out serious kiting. Even with running them around I still die about 40% of the time in almost all 1v1 fights. Dark Elf Thief = junk. So whats a fun build to play that will allow me to advance more then 4 fights into the arena quests(twins ruin my day)? I would still like to keep the stealthy aspect but the Dark Elf just seems so fragile and low on magika. I'm also not sure how I feel about marksman it just seems like a secondary skill in most fights you aren't able to utilize range to its utmost.

I'd go Wood Elf for a Thief build, and at first I'd either grab the warrior birthsign, or the mage for health/magicka respectively. After that build your character up so that even if you want to use Light Armor at first-- Level your heavy armor skill some, so that when you level you get That Endurance Multiplyer.

I'd recommend that you also have a backup weapon skill, and to make sure you get 10 ranks of any combination of the three (H2H, Blunt, Blade)-- so that you can get your Strength up.

If your a theif, your main skillset will enhance Agility and speed as you level and play around with your different stealth moves-- so work on the ones that don't level first as its easier.

Just run to the church as soon as you do this mission and pray at the alter.

For anyone with a character strong in magicka don't bother trying to get that Skeleton Key. If you go through the Mage's Guild storyline you'll end up able to make your own spells at the end of it. One of the spells is "Open Very Hard Lock". I no longer need to try lockpicking or anything, just point my finger at anything locked and boom, opens right up.

Yea, I had actually created the Open Very Hard Lock spell before I got the Skeleton Key, but hell, the S Key is still worth 1000 bones.

Not that case if your infamey is higher then your fame. Then you can pray at a church. I found an alter by the place you get a unicorn and it let me pray there. It made my damaged stats go back to normal so it should also heal the 3 day Vampire bites.

No. If you want Azura's Star you can go get another one. I suggest Malacath's Shrine (theres a map in Scorch's post above) for the Daedra Artifact. It's a 2 handed Hammer which I know no one likes. And to the guys who got the Skeleton Key, definately don't give that Artifact to Martin. You'll be screwed.

There's five little tear-shaped drops on the ground in that frozen area. I'd recommend using a potion of Restore Health if you've alchemized some as even the low level ones will restore more health than you lose. Just look around on the ground surrounding the frozen guy, I think there's also one or two on his platform (If you can get in a decent position up there, you also stop taking frost damage).

How long does it take to level up? I feel like something's wrong... I've played like 8 hours, finished several quests (delivered Martin, recaptured Kvetch, closed an Oblivion gate...) and I'm still level 1 knight??? The last part of Kvetch was crazy hard cause I just can't take many blows. I've gotten tons of messages that my sneak has increased, blade increased, etc. but still haven't actually leveled up my class. I something wrong? What levels in your major skills do you have to reach before you level up?

If you see an icon at the bottom of your screen that looks like an arrow pointed up surrounded by a half circle, that means you can level up. You just have to find an unoccupied bed to sleep in. The easiest way to get a free bed is to join the Arena - they have little mats in there you can rest on without having to pay.

In order to level up any combination of your major skills must go up by 10. You can use minor skills to get better +bonuses to your stats if you want, but that takes some careful planning and whatnot.

So 60 hours in I finally started the main quest, since I needed a source of Daedra Hearts to get back into the Mages Guild and I also didn't feel like getting my suspension lifted anyways. If you do have the experience to level more than once, the icon will still be down beside your compass after you wake up. You only have to sleep for an hour at a time to level up as well. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Well I discovered how to level up, and it turns out I was a level 7 character stuck in a level 1's body. So now I'm level 7, and have completed the first part(the easy part)of the Arena. I just killed the orc and am raking in the money. But with all that good, I've spent like 170 days in jail. I guess the Empire frowns on killing guards, stealing horses, pickpocketing, and killing innocent townspeople. Stiffs...

Where is the eye of the nocturnal located, when you need to get it from the thieves (for s.key)?

What do you do in the fighters guild? Actual hand to hand boxing fighting?

If I worked on minor skills, say blunt, blade and H2H, which govern strength, and leveled up say 20 times, will it add 20 to my stats when I level up? (since your minors multiply it)

How do I get illusion, mysticism, and conjuration up, since I have no spells that I can use to level up?

So far the only things I've done in the Fighter's Guild is quests, same as the Mage's Guild. They sent me on a quest to deliver some weapons to some other Guild members trapped in a cave full of trolls and another one to rid a woman's basement of wolves who kept eating her pet rats. Stuff like that.

Buy spells. Plenty of places/people sell them.

As I've understood and tested, the Minor Skills ONLY apply to that particular level. Let me see if I can make it a bit clearer for you.

Say you want to have Strength as a +5 for your next level.

Your major skills have Blade in them. As such, it should be paramount that your H2H and Blunt Skill raise a combined 10 points, so that you get that +5. Blade can level too if you want, but unless you level your Blade +10 ONLY, you will never get +5 without touching minor skills.

Strange how its set up, I know, but if you plan on maximizing the growth of your custom character- It's paramount that you use the Minor skills to bolster your Major Stats.

Unlike Major Skills, which will count for further levels (raising Blade 20 in one level, will allow you to level twice, with two +5 STR multipliers) Minor Skills only apply to THAT particular level, as such it's important that you don't raise your minor skills TOO high, because you will need to raise them to continue Stat Growth to 100.

This works for all Stats-- and for Major and Minor skills, as I've stated. As such, if you want to "power" level your character- it's important that you set your MAJOR skills so that you have control over when they skill up.

Remember, any combined increase of 10 in your Major Skills = A New Level. So before you get those 10 points, make sure you have planned what your going to level up in your Minor Skills to equate a +5 bonus.
--

I'd only recommend this for someone who has already beaten the main questline, or is entirely focuesed on making a power character-- Its time consuming and requires a lot of note-taking (especially at higher levels of minor skills)
