I didn't see this posted, so I figured I'd post this too. Until the middle of July all value rack PS2 and PS2 software will be $7.99 each. This starts 5/28, the same day as the BOGO offer.

Does this mean the prices on the price list Cheapy D posted on the other thread are invalid? or is that useing the adjusted prices you mentioned?

That'd be incredible. 2 games for $8!

Some of the Value Rack titles are included in the BOGO offer. But when there are multiple promotions like this running, usually the system will only let you do one. So if you buy two it would either give both of them to you for $7.99 each($16 total), or it would let you do the BOGO offer thus charging you $0.00 for one and $19.99 for the other one($20 total). Hopefully they've though of this so both promotions can be used together(so you can get 2 titles for $8), but you never know. I guess we'll all find out tomorrow.

tubtub just reminded me... I think the whole PS1 value rack is on the BOGO deal, according to the list. I guess we'll know by tomorrow what kind of deal rings up for them. I could do Tekken 3 (mostly for music) and, er, something else for $4 each.

Why would anyone pay $19.99 for 2 value games when they could be gotten for $7.99 each? Are they counting on stupid people to buy games too?
Alpha2
05-28-2004, 12:37 AM
They're counting on people not knowing, some will see a game marked as 19 bucks on their receipt for like 8 and think they got a deal when they could have gotten it free but didnt know it.
That is unless they really do have their computer set up to separate the games correctly for maximum savings.

What is the "PS2 Value Rack?" Is there any list of which games should be on it?

it's a rack of value.
it's a rack seperate from the normal game aisles and the games on the rack have a big yellow sticker on them stating some sort of value price.
i would like someone to confirm that these are 7.99 and more importantly, confirm or deny that they are included in the BOGO offer.

I was at TRU today, and to my knowledge the value rack games are not part of the BOGO offer. At my TRU, the value rack and table of BOGO games were separate from each other. In my opinion the value games for $7.99 are better buys than the BOGO games unless there is something especially good at your TRU.

oh well I got screwed over. King of route 66 was NOT avalue rack game at the store I went to, and ended up coasting me 21.99 before tax.

The computer is setup to give one or the other so no bogo for to value rack games i was there today and it will pick automatically the better deal.

some of the titles on the value rack don't ring up as 7.99. I tried to get VF: Evo but it rang up at 19.99 and the lady didn't believe of the sale.

About VF4Evo: The problem is that a lot of the budget rack software is also on the floor as regular software. Unfortunately, it just leads to a lot of confusion. The budget line VF4 Evo is in a milky white plastic security case with the other budget games. The regular VF4 Evo is in the clear security case that the cashiers have to take off with security (emplast) keys. I wish we could substitute the original stock into the budget line stock, as that would move a lot more product. But, the original stock and the budget line stock come from two different vendors, and are considered to be different products because of that. It sucks, I know. :(
Edit: The regular VF4 Evo is part of the BOGO deal. Go figure.

Take that game back for a refund and try buying it again. I picked it up today for the $7.99 price.

Keep in mind that value rack items carry a UPC sticker that must be scanned instead of the UPC on the game box. Without that UPC the POS system won't know to give the sale price.

Yeah mine wasnt in the special case. there was no extra upc to scan so it came out the normal price.

The rack had some decent titles, some worth $8 im sure. This sale was just too little too late for me after the BB sale. I wasted some money on groceries for a BBQ instead.
Got: 16pk local chicken thighs $3
BBQ Sauce - 3/$1
16pk(2-8pks) hotdogs $1.60 16(2-8pks) buns $1
Yes thats some cheapass BBQ'n love for ya.

hahahaha... damn... that reminds me. After the Best Buy sale (and to the cheap ass gamer who beat me to the 4 dolla Guilty Gear X2, you shall die!), and the Toys R Us Sale.. I'm nearly out of food. Damn! Guess I'm driving to mom's house alot this week....

Not too bad... I went to two TRUs, and the first was pretty well-stocked. I plan to get a PS2 in the next week or so, and for $32 I was able to get Gran Turismo 3, Sly Cooper, Stuntman, and Spy Hunter. After a manic sweep of the area Best Buys earlier in the week, all I came away with was Roadkill, so this was a nice deal.
The second store had only a very few games in the Value Rack, and no $7.99 sign.

Metropolismania and Harvest Moon are great deals at $7.99. I ended up getting Reel Fishing 3 mainly because the Best Buys near me didn't have it in stock.
One question, are any of the PS1 games on the rack a good deal? I scanned the rack at my TRU and nothing really stood out.

Also, some of the value rack software will not ring up on sale. Some copies of Ratchet and Clank and Tekken Tag have the UPC on them and the value label, but ring up $19.99. If they have the value rack sign up saying all value rack software for $7.99 then you can get these for that price too.
Also, the only titles on the value rack that are BOGO are the PS1 value titles priced at $19.99, but most stores don't have these and the system will actually not let you do the BOGO deal, instead it forces you to do the better deal of $7.99 a title.
Finally, we had one sneaky guy do this. If you peel off some of the value labels the title could be cheaper. Driver for PS1 is $7.99 on the value rack, but some guy peeled off the value UPC and it will ring up $4.90 if you do this plus it will ring up as part of the BOGO offer. I don't suggest trying that, but its amazing the lengths people will go to get a deal(and not a big one at that).

I asked my boss lady about the value-sticker games that aren't part of the budget line. Basically, what she told me was that she had been instructed to put up a sign saying that everything marked with the yellow value sticker is part of the sale. I reminded her that we still have games that have the sticker, but aren't in the budget program. But, then I convinced her to push them through for customers anyway, since she herself was instructed from her higher-ups to let all value-sticker games go. Honestly, this is probably the last decent chance we'll have to get rid of some of these crap games anyway.

Funny you should say that... the Union Square store was the one I went to, and it was well stocked Friday afternoon. I didn't check Times Square, but the Brooklyn one was empty.
At Union Sq. they told me Ratchet & Clank and Jak & Dexter weren't included, because while they had Value stickers, they weren't in the special cases or in the cardboard display, and therefore weren't included in the sale. I was disappointed, those are high on my want list...

i got lucky on the Ratchet and Clank. They overrided it for me in Gainesville because the lady knew of the sale and just gave it to me.

I visited my TRU in Hampton/Newport News, VA and picked up Silpheed: The Lost Planet (excellent shooter by Treasure!), VF4:EVO and Tekken Tag for 7.99 ea. I had to wrangle with the cashier and point her to the 7.99 rack, but once she noticed what was where, things went smoothly. These purchases made the trip worthwhile, as the BOGO was lousy.

I went to the TRU in Santa Cruz, CA and they knew nothing of the sale and where rude to me. There was a table where BOGO usually is but it didn't say anything. The cashier told me that they weren't expecting a sale for a month or two. Doesn't really matter I guess, there wasn't anything that great. Then to top it off they were selling a bunch of N64 wrestling games for $12-$15 (least favorite kind of game for not a hot price).
