Didn't see a topic here for it yet, but I just picked up the game this afternoon. Waiting for wifey to be done with WoW so I can play, but I wondered what you all thought, if you like it or not, etc.

I really enjoyed the beta test, but the copy protection they used really messed my computer up. My system became very unstable and slow. Had to go to the protection company website to completely uninstall the drivers they install on your computer, uninstalling the program alone did not work. Since removal, stable and fast system.

I'm very interested, but going to wait for a price drop or a $30 sale.

I've heard that it's pretty much the same as the first one, and that if you have it, you should be pretty satisfied with that.

It's not bad, it's much more a straight up RTS than what the first BFME offered. Which on one hand is a good thing because I can finish it in a week, but the second installment takes away just about everything that made the first one unique.
I'm finding the pathfinding is especially shitty, where my guys won't surround an enemy, the first line of men will take the brunt of the attack and the other troops will fill in when one dies. Frustrating to watch, but it may be the way it is meant to be?
Also, if you aren't a pretty big fan of the novels, you will probably not be interested at all in the story. All the events, characters, and most places are from a few pages from the appendix of Return of the King. Great for die hard lovers of the books, but probably not for the casual movie watching LOTR fan.

I'm wanting to pick it up, but I'm having too much fun with Rome Total War. I'm also picking up IL 2 Forgotten Battles next week, so that will keep me busy for a long time. I wouldn't mind seeing some opinions on it though
Just picked it up...
Its basically the same as the first but much more advanced. Free building etc. But what I am noticing is some of the classes are way off balanced. THe humans are horrible. They where my favorite class or race but now they get trampeld on by everyone. THe elves are WAY to over powerd. It seems like a joke that they are hitting as hard as they do.
And all of EA's servers are down tonight... day 2 of realease and down they go..

I would go with BFME because it has a pretty decent open ended campaign mode where you take over lands and build armies etc. After beating AOE3 (which has a better single player campaign IMO) you won't find much more to keep you busy.

I think it also comes down to how much of a fan are you of the LOTR books. To me, I love them, so a little worse gameplay can be offset by directing Glorfindel and Gloin around a battlefield.

And having tom bombadil dance and sing around the battle field...About time they acknowledge him
