Sorry it's so late in the day. I just found this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827152058 I've been looking at this drive since someone recommended it in another thread. Today this OEM NEC internal 16X DVD +-R RW DL drive is only $37.99 with free 3 day UPS shipping. This one is black, but the beige one is the same price, and the silver one is only $35.99.

Spend a little more and you can get one with Lightscribe capability. The media's more expensive currently, but if you like your burns to look nice (and are patient enough to let it write the label slowly) it might be worth considering.

They also have a combo deal for some media, which doesn't seem that cheap until you factor in the slimline cases (I find buying spools of media to be bothersome in the long run, personally.)

I started to add the "free" RiData disks as a combo, but that would have added a $6 shipping charge.
There are actually about 10 different drives that say they are on sale today only. Just click on the CD/DVD Burner link on Newegg's home page to see them.

this isnt really that great of a deal, newegg always has dvd-rw drives for roughly $40. They say its a one day sale but its not really one.

Still a good price for a GREAT burner....I have an older NEC and it's still going strong.

I bought the same burner a year ago for about $80 on NewEgg. You cannot go wrong with this burner. I've used it frequently and love it. GO GET IT!

They had this deal last week actually mine arrived yesterday..

Remember this is OEm and comes with NO cables, software, box instructions etc. Normally thats not an issue but worth mentioning.

I considered it a sale. Normally the drive is $39.99 plus $4.89 shipping. Yesterday it was $37.99 with free shipping. RolePlayer and I saved $6.89 per drive. If it happens as frequently as every week, it's worth looking out for this sale again. As I said, there were several other drives in this same sale: a couple bucks off with free shipping. Brands were NEC, Lite-On, and, I think, BenQ.

How hard is it to get the cables?

How hard is it to get the cables?

Well depending on how old your seystem is you may not even need a sound cable anymore as sound travels through the IDe cable now on newer boards.

The power cable is built into you PC power supply. and thats really all you need.

If you were to set it up as a slave drive it explains the jumper settings right on the top of it.

I had the drive in a working in about 2 hours BUT thats becuase I went through and rerouted all my internal wires again for the best air movement.

Normally it would take maybe 15-30 minutes in and done.

If you need the cables, you can get them anywhere that sells drives.
As far as software goes, check http://www.afterdawn.com/software/
