I knew I wouldn't believe it, so I covertly snapped off a shot. Live ponts, 1600 for 19.99, as well as the expensive XBL kit for 19.99. In next week's ad, be ready to pricematch/adjust because I have a feeling this is going to be big.

It might be worth buying it now and then price matching over the weekend so you can get one before they're sold out.

And then return it when they say it's a typographical error and don't allow it. Unless of course you get someone who doesn't know doesn't care.

i'm sure as long as Bestbuy don't correct the misprint, my CC will PM it without even asking a single question

You won't make much... chances are, everyone who resells on Ebay is going to find this out, and the market is going to be full of people undercutting each other. They go for ok money now, but wait until someone comes along who bought 10 of these and dosen't mind unloading them at $15 or so profit, undercutting everyone else.
If you were going to put them up, you might as well wait a week or two so you can charge a premium.
And isn't CAG the site where "hoarding is omg so wrong" :p

I agree hoarding is wrong, but I won't be hoarding. I probably if anything would get 1 (2 at most) and sell them. I like your idea of waiting which I will probably do (if this even works) until most of the eBayers get rid of their's :)
Trust me, I don't like to hoard and ruin it for everyone else. This would be one of the first deals that I would actually buy and eBay since a LONG time ago. I try and make it fair for everyone, but some of the eBayers out there go wild on stuff like this. Not me, I like to make a few extra bucks every now and then and I don't see anything wrong with it.

you should be able to add it on at any time. i would wait though since these cards don't expire
another question: can i use my x360 live account and transfer it to my old xbox? like if i set up the gold account on my x360, could i then do account recovery on my old xbox and play on that as well?

Depending on what state you live in, its actually illegal to run an ad like that, and when you get in the store they say that it was. A little something called bait and switch. If they're running a large ad on games, then most likely that is what they're gonna try and do with this. If I have the money, I might get one, and if they refuse, call the Better Business Buearu on the spot and file a complaint

No, it's not. That would put the store at the mercy of a single disgruntled employee at any point in the chain from an ad agency down to the publishing house, which would be ridiculous. "Typographical error" is a legitimate defense, and the store simply has to take reasonable steps to notify the public of the error, such as posting a correction in the entry (something you se fairly often).

I'm sorry but it looks like bait and switch to me.
If companys can get away with it, they'd print out damn good deals every single time, to lure you in. Once you get there, they say "sorry that was a typo". Then offering to sell you something else. Whats not to stop them from constantly doing it and misleading everyone all the time. Simple bait and switch...

Umm, at any given time there seems to be at least one store I shop at with a sign posted in the window saying "sorry, but X advertised at Y was a typo what we really meant was Z". It does happen constantly, and it's perfectly normal and acceptable. You know of the issue before you even walk into the store.
Not to mention this is not the type of issue "bait and switch" laws were meant for anyway. Best Buy is notorious for a different issue (or used to be), they would advertise a great, legitimate deal and only stock a handful at most. The law requires they stock a "reasonable" quantity of any given deal and they'll often list in the ad the minimum quanitity available in each store.
Typos are nothing, they're common, and they're no big deal. The very fact that pretty much eveyone in this thread already expects it's a typo and just hopes to get it anyway shows that claiming "bait and switch" is just hypocrisy with big brass balls. You know damn well that XBL 12 month kits have a value FAR above the 19.99 and the law takes that into account when handling complaints.
If you go down to Best Buy and they sell this to you for 19.99, then great, you got an amazing deal. But if get rejected and throw a temper tantrum while threatening to call the BBB and file a complaint about "bait and switch" you're just a jackass and a hypocrite.

The Outfit makes no mention of a faceplate, however you get an on-pack card with a code for a special level download. I took that much of a picture because I realize how farfetched the deal sounds, I was being daring doing that much. And I only posted the deal here, because I enjoy the CAG experience.

If its in this Sunday's ad, there's no way in hell to retract the ad. Those ads are already sitting in most newspaper depots ready for assembly and delivery. Now, if they didn't know about it before (which I doubt) then they could issue a correction and post it in store. That, however, doesn't stop you from pricematching.

Sears mispriced Ace Combat 5 shortly after it was released, despite the fact that it was pretty widely spread through all the the aforementioned forums, many people were still able to pricematch at other places.

Damian

what is pricematching?
Some stores like Circuit City will meet or beat a competitor's advertised price. If you bring some proof of the price (an ad paper is best) they will match the price or even beat it (110% in the case of CC). Sometimes they will call the other store to verify the deal and if the store has any in stock and deny the pricematch if the other store is out.

I didn't see anyone saying that here.
I'm guessing the reason that you (I'm speaking to "Mr. Diver", of course) posted this on Fatwallet is because you desired praise and recognition (READ: your an attention whore), and that's fine. I find it funny, though, that you had to resort to making shit up to make yourself seem "cooler" to your "friends." you can use up to 10 of the 2 month free trials per credit card that you own, i actually called up the xbox live hotline and asked a couple of years ago, you have to cancel the old account and make a new one with new xbox live tag and whatnot, but heck it is worth it if you dont want to pay for xbox live

Are you stupid?
The more people who know about a deal, the larger the crowd will be who try to cash in on it. The more people who try to cash in on it, the bigger the concern at corporate HQ. The bigger the concern at HQ, the more likely it is that they will "take care of" the deal.
Posting the deal on FW did absolutely nothing but cement the fact that it won't be honored by anyone.
newscientist2000
03-09-2006, 11:51 PM
The moral of the story is that you have to wait till the weekend to post a deal this good.
If this deal was posted on Saturday around midday or after there would have been little time for BestBuy to correct its mistake, and thus it would have to honour the deal.
I use Fatwallet (FW) and CheapAssGamer(CAG) regularly and yes sometimes FW can be the death for any deal, to many fleabayers and Devil customers, and spys from BestBuy, CircuitCity and the like.
The big stores, particularly BestBuy have declared war on the consumer, and react quicker, next time theres a discount 70% discount please post the deal, just wait until the last minute to give those lazy Best Buy sods less time to react.
Whoever that bhole on FW who said he phoned BestBuy to inform them of the misprint and got free stuff deserves to rot in Hell with BestBuys CEO. He deserves a kicking.

It's impossible to keep deals like these secret. They get spread around faster than you type. For example, CheapyD once posted a bensbargains deal for Dell Laptops (the $750 off $1500 deal). That's the nature of "deals" websites like these. If it's not FW, it's slickdeals. If it's not slickdeals, it's spoofee. If it's not spoofee, it's CAG.

It isn't already? It won't be tomorrow? If you go to Wal-Mart and hand them the ad expecting them to PM it when you know that BB posted that it was a misprint on their website, you're lying to them, and it's fraud. It's no different.

I'm not. I have no intention of doing so, and never did. I seem to have been the only one against it from the beginning. I said way back in the beginning of the thread that if BB themselves decide to honor this then great, you're getting an incredible deal. But complaining about it (the "bait and switch" people) just makes you a jackass. Actually trying to defraud another store when you know this ad is a misprint is just way over the line.

I find this somewhat odd. While there are a good number of people psyched up to get a good deal on Xbox Live, some were already licking thier chops to go buy a stack to sell on EBAY. How does that make you any different than anyone on Fatwallet? It seems rather hypocritical to rally against a community for doing the exact same thing as you planned to do yourself... it just seems like sour grapes.

not really. if you mean instore, yeah they'll have it corrected with signs and stuff. but most likely the ad wont be corrected since they have to issue a warning on their website. and it's least expensive just to put a warning than correct their ad (which is already printed and ready for distribution)

The problem is those who called to confirm the deal, IMO its good to share with others looking for a good deal fine whatever, but NEVER call. It showing up on different forums didnt kill the deal the dopes from those forums (individuals that called. Its even possible that someone for our CAG site just browing could have also called. Somebody at BB heard about the error of something that was in NEXT WEEKS ad (not even availble to public yet) and fixed the error. I say blame the peopl that called not the sites. The one sure fire way at obtaining a copy for $19.99 is hitting your local Walmart around the time the Newspapers are delivered; for me it is around 4-5 a.m. Usually Walmarts have their own seperate stacks of ads for price matching, so all you need to do is get a copy from the case and let the cashier know the price. If your worried about the cashier calling BB have your own copy of the add ready in hand. Also by going this early you avoid the possibility of a phone call because BB doesn't open until 11 a.m.

Just a matter of degree, I guess. Like I said, I spoke out against it in the beginning. When this guy suggested actually combining sales papers he took i to a whole new level I haven't seen (I'm used to the PM fraud by omission posts by now) and I reacted based on that. I guess the next guy will suggest photoshopping his own ads and I'll have to come up with a new adjective.
I don't understand how trying to get it a few days earlier since I might be busy all next week is "taking it to a whole new level." Whats the difference if its done this week or next week? Either way it's the same type of fraud that we're all doing.

Is there no sense of community anymore? Keeping it in the family?
If you can't appreciate that, then eat it and go back to FW.
Hey retard, do you really think a nationally advertised price mistake from a well known retailer is going to escape SD, FW, and other deal sites? Do you really think if CAG didn't exist no one else would have found out about this and posted it somewhere else? Use your brain. While CAG may focus on video games specifically, other sites focus on ALL deals, and ALL price mistakes will be posted and shared amongst those members. (Or do CAG members only have access to BB ad scans? If so, I apologize, I didn't know they were sending ads only to the CAG community).
At least the members of the FW community understand and know that when a huge price mistake like this happens it is going to be a HUGE HUGE YMMV deal.
There are too many idiots here who think that they could have screwed over the retailers and taken advantage of the price mistake if it hadn't been posted on another site. Sorry, anyone who has common sense knows that it's going to be YMMV anyway. If you get it great, if not, oh well. Don't except companies to honor price mistakes on these ads, because most of them never do.
Please continue to cry and whine, it is quite funny. Pathetic, but funny.

If you can't even admit that price matching an ad you KNOW is a misprint is fraud, then you have no right criticizing changing the ad. Tell me who is being hurt by switching the date to get it a few days before. Either way you're still doing the same thing.

Went to Circuit City today with the Best Buy ad, picked up the Gold kit, took it to front desk, $15.74 out the door. With the $20 rebate on a 360 game, I basically made $5. Thanks CAG!
Circuit City was my last choice since I thought they'd be more savvy, but Walmart, Sears, and CompUSA all had only the 3-month kit.

[quote] At least the members of the FW community understand and know that when a huge price mistake like this happens it is going to be a HUGE HUGE YMMV deal.
i think all seasoned deal hunters on this site and every other deal site understand that. FW doesn't have some special insight or ability to be more knowledgable about the concept of YMMV but way to troll for your FW brethern.:applause:
There are too many idiots here who think that they could have screwed over the retailers and taken advantage of the price mistake if it hadn't been posted on another site.
just like FW doesn't have the market cornered on YMMV understanding, i would argue that CAG doesn't have the 100% of the market on forum idiots. SD, FW and any other internet forum has their fair share. obviously there are enough to go around...
it seems you have taken the anti FW statements personally. my advice would be to use the ignore function for the people making those statements. it works great to keep from reading mindless drivel that has nothing to do with the deal at hand like pimping an alternate deal site and their community by putting down another somewhat similar community by calling them retards and idiots. welcome to CAG and my ignore list.

saw a sign posted in a B+M Bestbuy today that acknowledged the mistake.
In retrospect, and no offense to the OP, in the future it would be better to keep this kind of deal under one's hat until the day before the ad appears.
The more a deal like this is hyped up, the greater the chances that stores will be in the know and cut off the mistake before people can slip in.

anyone in the bay area try and PM yet? I'm gonna head to sears and see if they will PM then hit Circuit city.
I figure good chance at sears. Circuit city maybe not, bay area ones are extremely tough to PM stuff.
worst case I have fry's tomorrow morning since I already bought it.
well I made my runs
I was close at CC. If only the manager guy was kept a longer a tiny bit more. Eventually they went online and printed out where it says misprint.
Over at sears, I almost had it too, 2nd guy was ready to ring it up, had the pad showin 14.99 (110%), Best buY decided to pick up the phone and said its 69.99. Stupid girl had to call, I already had a pissed off face about standing there for 30 minutes while the girl had to go find a phone book.
But there leaves me hope since Sears people said maybe its on sale wednesday or something. you can come back then. I'll try again tomorrow right @ 10am when they open. valid ad dates etc.
If not I still have frys.
This is at the CC and Sears @ Eastridge.

I just went to my local CC and bought the remaining 3 kits they had left on the shelf. Took it to the register and a lady from Customer Service came over to ring me up. She rang up the first one and of course it came up $69.99 then I said I have a price match and showed her the BB ad. She looks at the price and says to me, "how is it so low?" and I keep a straight face. She says she couldn't PM it until tomorrow because that is when the ad starts (she did look at the date on the BB ad) so I was a little hesitant to buy them at full price. She assured me just to take my receipt and the ad over to Customer Service tomorrow and said if they give me any trouble to just show them her name on the receipt and they'll do it. So, I'd suggest going to your local CC today and picking them up before they're gone tomorrow. You'll either get the PM today or just have to run in there really quick tomorrow to have them adjusted. Better that then going tomorrow only to find them all gone...
Gonna try it at Wally World, tomorrow.

Well I'm sure some managers would refuse to honor it if they knew it was a mistake. However, their price guarantee policy says nothing regarding pricing mistakes. Roufuss is right, technically they can do whatever they want...it just depends on each store's management and/or how fiesty you're willing to get if they resist.
Taken from CC's site:
Price Guarantee
If you've seen a lower advertised price from another local store with the same item in stock, we want to know about it. Bring it to our attention, and we'll gladly beat their price by 10% of the difference. If you see a lower advertised price (including our own sale prices) within 30 days of your purchase, we'll refund 110% of the difference.
Our policy applies only to advertised prices. It does not apply to special offers or promotions, including rebates, free-with-purchase offers and special financing. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide price matches online, so please visit the closest Circuit City store (http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/locator.do?c=1) to take advantage of our Price Guarantee.

I wish I could say the same, but it actually happened to me during the Sears sale. Cashier called Sears, verified the prices, checked to see if any were in stock (which they weren't), and refused the PM. I was shocked, since she held up the entire line for about 5 minutes doing that, usually they just give you the PM and off you go.

You'll get nowhere if you complain... policy is that they are supposed to call the store and verify the price and if it is still there. Most employees don't follow this policy, but you might just get unlucky :(
Complaining won't do anything, espically if Best Buy tells them its a misprint.

Its publicly listed on best buy's website as a misprint, and it has been since like yesterday night at least when i went to the best buy website to check prices on stuff.
It depends on if you get a stupid employee that doesnt know. I wouldnt be surprised if circuit city and all the other competitors of best buy have already been informed about the pricing mistake, especially since in this area the stores are about 2-5 min away from each other.
The problem with this is if its in the sunday ad that everyone gets in the sunday morning paper people will think its really 19.99 and in effect that lures people into the store thinking they will get that price, thus bringing customers to the store that wouldnt normally come, so best buy can pull their old, oh sell them something else for a higher price trick. Not everyone has a computer to check the website either.
Even if they have blatant signs posted on the door that says its a pricing error they have still made people drive all the way out to best buy and waste some gas and time for a price that is an error so i definitly think they should compensate in some way for this, not just tell people i am sorry its a pricing error.
