Yeah, our government wouldn't want companies competing with each other.

Almost all gas companies pay the same price for gas, so if one gas station sells it for a lot less, they are losing money, and inthe mean time driving out the competition, in the end it would be bad for us. But, I dont see any difference with that and what walmart does.

My guess is that a lot of the places in question are like you said: BJs or Costco or something like that. For these places they can afford to charge what the pay for gas because they make money in other ways. I guess I'm really thinking like a cheapass, but in terms of gas, I wouldn't mind pulling up to a Walmart filling station if i twas going to be 20 cents less a gallon.

Luckily, bot of my parents cars are having trouble, dad needs a throw out bearing, and mom needs a wheel bearing. They take my truck in the evenings when they run errands. FREE GAS FOR BIG NICK!!!!! Until next week, when they both get fixed.

Ok. So it seems that gas companies can't even undercut their competition nowadays? Anyways gas is 2.50 her in SoCal so you guys have it relatively "cheap."

Me too. During the school year my daily trips to and from school took a half a tank a week, but now that school is over I doubt I will use 2 tanks of gas all summer unless we use my car often.

My parents cover my gas as well (junior in high school doesn't have much money for gas) but I still cringe when I see gas is $2.30+ a gallon at the local Shell. Its crazy how they can gauge gas prices, and taking away cheap gas is even worse (I actually haven't read the article, just basing the statement on other people's reactions). Can't wait to see how much gas costs in the Summer when they usually rise for vacations.

Lol, people are morons about gas where I live. There are two gas stations located directly across from each other. Every day the BP charges 3 cents less than whatever the Shell is charging, and pumps your gas for you ( I know it must be the last station in the free world that isn't self-serve). Yet everyday, there are more people at the Shell, where they have to pump their own gas and pay 3 cents/gallon more. I guess not many cheap/lazy asses live near me. . . .

Funny thing is...in NJ, EVERY gas station pumps it for you. In fact, it is illegal to pump your own and you will usually get yelled at for it. God bless the garden state.

Same thing in Oregon. I remember my dad tried to pump his own on our first trip up there, and the guy was like "i got it" and when my dad dais t was cool the guys said "its illegal to let you pump it". Gas was like 50 cents cheaper a gallon too then right when you entered North Cali. If I lived on the Cali-Oregon border, I would drive across anytime I needed gas. :)

Charging more for gas is just capitalism, they could charge 3x more for gas like in europe and what could you do about it? Not buy it, sure but you have to drive to get places. You can complain about gas prices all you want but I don't think its going to get anything solved. Next time you get a car think about mileage instead of size, it might just save your cheap ass a fortune.

Amen to that... no way in hell I am buying an Escalade, Hummer, or any other super gas guzzling SUV when I get my car. I'd totally consider one of those electric/gas hybrids if some of them didn't look so ugly...(what the hell is an element? a giant box?) :?

Hybrids are awesome. My girl friend just got one and I'm sold. Next car will be, without a doubt, a hybrid.

It's funny, I can see why such a law exists. For a while, it seemed like every other day there was an Atlanta area gas station along a major road charging $0.99 per gallon and the police would have to get involved because of the absolute havoc it caused. Everything from fights to accidents to traffic like you wouldnt believe.
I also find it amusing that people complain so much about the price of gas here, which is $1.86/gallon last time I filled up. Everybody that's posted so far is paying a lot more...

well in CA, gas is always higher then $2.10 a gallon, they always goe higher and higher.. you know why? i think its an evil scheme the CA goverment in trying to do to reduce smog in the sounthern part of cali, because the higher prices go on gas, the less people are going to be buying because it will get to the point where its not worth it to buy gas, and viola, less smog, woot atmosphere! i think thats what there trying to do, but dont mind me im an idiot
