Browser dumping my bookmarks

Firefox seems to be intermittently dumping my bookmarks. This is aggravating for several reasons, so I was wondering if anyone has heard of this problem before I go dig around on the Mozilla forums?

Firefox does this to me as well. It also sometimes forgets my homepage. I periodically export my bookmarks to a file to protect them, but I would love to know what's causing it.

Netscape was doing it to me while I was using itunes

Firefox only did that to me once, I restarted and they came back up. Never happened again but I can imagine that being a huge problem.

I used to have that problem all the time in FF, but I never figured out what caused it. I switched to a more convenient platform: online bookmarking services. I just use the links widget in protopage but most use www.murl.com or www.mybookmarks.com

I had this problem before, but Firefox automatically makes backups of the bookmarks files (at least mine does). The default place they are stored for Widnows users is: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
