My roomie beat that on Adult finally a few weeks ago. Worked on it off and on for about a month. Some Friday afternoons/evening would be completely obliterated by one or two sections. Hard. Core. I might play it on kids some day ;)
Well, my Friday, Saturday, and Sunday were obliterated by my determination to beat this. Basically spent my entire Saturday night till about 2am just trying to get through "The Fantastic 5". >_<
At least I can now say that every boss in this game is my bitch now.

It took me a long time to figure out how the beat the second to last boss (the flaming critter lol); it's not a tactic I would've normally thought of doing. Capcom must get a big kick out of making you fight all the bosses again and again...
Dante mode makes the game a lot easier since you can actually use your guns in midair. And all of his cutscenes sound like gibberish.

Come on guys, its not really that hard. Sure I had to fight Fire Leo like a billion times but it was fun!
This just reminded me that I still need to get VJ2, so hit ebay and got one for under $9 shipped.
I traded a dreamcast game for VJ2 with someone on here. I promised myself I wouldn't play it till I beat VJ1; although, I don't think I want to play it right now. My head is already on the brink of exploding due to the massive amount of Viewtifullness.
So, back to Advance Wars DS for me.
P.S. I'm glad they made it difficult. It wouldn't be a proper 2D plane beat-em-up without it. I went through the same process when trying to beat Final Fight for the first time(and they made you go back to the very beginning when you lost). Also, I love the Final Fight references. Robotic Rolento = Win

im always stuck at the boss battles part. i couldnt beat so many bosses in a row.

It's easily one of my top 3 games of all time, and I've beaten it on Adults. The jump from Kids to Adults is nothing compared to the jump from Adults to V-Rated. I find V-Rated to be next-to-impossible. I know a kid (who exhibits the antithesis of social know-how) who has beaten it on Ultra V-Rated. It truly blows my mind.

Some of my fondest memories freshmen year were playing this game on Adult. I don't think I've ever cursed that much in my life. There are only so many games you can truly hate something you start calling "Shark fucker". :) It was truly amazing. I beat it in under a month, but have yet to tackle VJ2...it's just sitting there on my shelf. Hmm, maybe this summer...
And yeah, I'm glad you enjoyed it, SMMM! Proud of yourself? You should be.

If it's any consolation, after my rommate beat VJ1, he tore through VJ2 in a weekend playing off and on. Even on adult, it's way easier than 1.

I didn't have such a hard time with this game until the last level. That last level was fucking hell though. They threw every damn enemy at you.

I finished 1 & 2 on the cube.. & been working on VJ: DS off & on...
