Granted, it's not a great deal, but I know a lot of CAGers enjoy these films, and they're never on sale, so it'll probably be the best deal you get on them.

Totoro is a great film. The orig US dub from Troma was great though -- still have not understood why Disnet felt compelled to redub.

Because the dub belongs to Fox.

Shame. Looks like the FOX DVD is no longer available either.
I picked one up 2 years back when the Disney discs started coming out. It was pan and scan, which was disappointing, but at least it has the voice talent my kids grew up with.

So how is the new dub? Has anyone listened to it?
I figure I will eventually get the new Totoro so I can hear it in Japanese again, but we're all kind of attached to the old dub and my kid isn't going to be reading subtitles quite yet, so there's no point in me jumping on the new one now.

Actually, try scouring the 5.50 bins at walmart. If the store isn't a tremendously high volume location, you should still be able to find a copy of the fox version.

Really, really good. I like Mei better in the Fox version, but everyone else is either just as good or even better than the original dub. Plus, it's in widescreen for the first time ever in America!

Same here. Any time I get into a discussion with anime geeks (pot calling kettle black) about why dubbing is important, I always tell them how cool it is to have kids who think Totoro is as important as Winne the Pooh because of the dub, and that the rug rats just won't have the reading skills for subtitles till they hit about 10.
My kids knew who Kiki was long before Sabrina. And I'll kick the ass of anyone who says the Kirsten Dunst/Phil Hartman dub of Kiki sucks.

I heard it when they premiered it during the Miyazaki festival on TCM in January. I thought it was really, really well done. It helps that the Fannings are sisters playing sisters. And as with all the Disney Miyazaki DVDs, you can always switch to the original Japanese.
I'm a fervent subtitle guy when it comes to live-action, but I see nothing wrong with dubbing animated films. No original performance is being obscured, as the original voice is in itself a dub because, of course, animated characters do not give live performances. ;) I will say that it's worthwhile to listen to the original language track, as the subtitled dialogue can often differ dramatically, as will the use of music.
I don't miss the Fox version. It was P&S and shoddily put together, which is why I refused to buy it (knowing for years that a superior version was coming from Disney). It was worth the wait.
Thanks to the OP. I bit on this. I agree that, with free shipping, you won't really find these cheaper anywhere any time soon.
