Yeah, I just read an article the other day about how Alienware is doing great fighting off Dells poweruser line.

Oh God, Why'd they have to go and do it. I was such a big fan of Alienware computers. They were my absolute favorite to deal with. Aww shit, just great...good job guys over at Dell. Let's just hope that if the deal is true, that they don't fuck up the company and screw it up.
damn it, I was wrong again... But we all know that dell hates competition and will stop at nothing to be the shittiest computer maker on the planet

Granted I know next to nothing about computers but 4 Years and running my Dell has never failed on me.....No issues. No nothing. Maybe thats commonplace nowadays and I just feel its reliable because the comp I had previously was this old behemoth of a Tandy.......
However, I am disappointed that Steve the Dell Guy never made his fateful return.

I'm not really sure what planet you guys live on, but on earth Dell makes rock-solid, affordable computers, while Alienware makes overpriced bloated machines. Friends who have Alienware computers had nothing but issues with them. My Dell laptop has been running perfectly for over two years and runs games better than most Alienware machines I've seen.

My Dell laptop (Latitude X1 - so it's a samsung copy, but whatever :-P) has been great since I got it, but I only got it a few months ago. I wouldn't buy a Dell desktop, but I wouldn't buy a Sony or a Gateway or any other pre-made computer because they use cheap and/or proprietary parts and they're much harder to get drivers for (or at least that was my experience with Sony) and upgrade.

So two overpriced companies might merge into one. So now I'm waiting for the $300 pc with a 7800gt now.

I've only had my Dell XPS T550 since 1999 :P Not that I have used it for more than a few days a month in the last year or two, but it's still alive and kicking.

What the hell are you talking about? Dell makes some of the cheapest computers on the market.

It was like I was on bizarro CAG for a moment reading those first couple of posts.

My Dell which I owned for 6 years has been pretty good. I am a heavy computer user because I do a lot of graphics and stuff. So no complaints.
Alienware I heard has better customer service and their laptops has a cooling system.

/\/\/\ Dell Computers do run hot as hell. The fans would run constantly on my old laptop and it would still be hot.

I love my Alienware, but I must admit I could have built it to be more reliable. I just can't afford the parts! Dual 7800 GTX's and a AMD 4000+ Dual Core is expensive as all get out!

Not quoting just you when I say this but...
Are computers supposed to break or something? Its not like cars. I have an old 486 that I built at least 12 years ago in my basement and I just powered it up a few days ago. (it gave me a low CMOS battery warning and worked fine)
This thing has been through hell and back its been sitting in my mothers wet basement for about 4 years before it went to my garage in Michigan with some of the coldest few years and no heat.
On top of that we played the crap out of it back in the day. So getting back to my point I would hope not many peoples die before they get completely outdated... and I mean completely outdated.

Better quality PC = better quality parts. The computer itself shouldn't fall apart, but it's still mechanical equipement. Hard drive failures, fan failures, crappy RAM, a whole bunch of stuff can die. My parents had an HP while I was in high school that was outdated pretty quick (it was a P133, great at the time of purchase). It still functions now - it's about 8 or 9 years old - but the hard drive is pretty much dead, and recently I discovered the fan was toast. Doesn't work so well.
It really is very similar to a car in that eventually the cost of maintaining it can exceed the cost of replacement. But yes, hopefully this occurs after its outdated.

I had a Compaq 486 and that thing was a piece of shit. It was breaking down all the time. The Dell computer was much better.
