I have my X-Box hooked up through the HDTV pack with a good set of component cables going to my Pelican Selector 2.0. I checked Halo 2 and it looked fine and did not cut off that top corner like NHK 2k6 did. I tried some PS2 games also(mostly OPM demo discs), and they all cut the same corner out also and that is also hooked up via component cables. I do not have my 360 hear right now it is getting serviced so I cant check that . I also played a DVD and it looked fine at it to is hooked up via component through the Pelican 2.0 switch box also. I have my X-Box video setting set to widescreen and have both 480p and 1080i set on yes and no on 720p.

The TV I am using is the Philips 30PW8402/37B and here is a link to some info on the specs of the TV.

I just got this TV back from service and cannot remember if it did this before.

Do I have something checked or not checked that needs to be?

Looks to me like your geometry is off. Try searching the net to see if you can figure out how to get in the service menu of the TV. You should be able to tweak things in there.

But why would it only do it for some games and not others?

If you're positive its not doing it with all games, I'd assume the problem is the game and not your TV or Xbox. Have you checked the net to see if others have had the same problem with NHL2k6?

Some games do that to a flatscreen tube. There is nothing you can do about it, its the game/system/tv. I have two friends with his same problem. You can look all you want but I doubt youre gonna find anything about it other then you have to live with it.

Yeah did it for Nhl 2K6 but for sure not with Halo 2 or the 2 OXM demos I tried, also I just noticed it does it on ESPNews and for no other cable channel. I use a Comcast HDTV DVR box hooked via a DVI to HDMI cable.

Your black corner is definitely a geometry issue. NHL 2K6 also tends to underscan on most TVs I've seen. It could also be an issue with CRT bloom (http://www.repairfaq.org/sam/tvfaq.htm#tvbloom), depending on how you have your set adjusted. It's usually a side effect of voltage fluctuation from the cheap power supplies used in most cheaper TVs.
