View Full Version : PSP $149 Pamida Ad Misprint...

Just a heads up for those who have a Pamida in their area. I work at Wal*Mart and had someone come in with a Pamida advertisment with the PSP at $149. Knowing something was up, I was talking to the guy who brought it in when he said that Pamida was out of stock - which was my out not to price match, since Wal*Mart's policy states that the item has to be in stock. I was going to call, but hey, he saved me the trouble.
Anywhoo, I called anywho when I got a free minute and sure enough not only was it a misprint in the ad, but the store said they had two in stock when I asked - which means the guy knew it was a misprint and *lied* to me. Bastard.
Seriously though, if you've got a Pamida near you, check your ad - perhaps you'll get by with Price Matching somewhere else with some of the clueless employees that are out there.
And don't come to my store and try to do it, I've already put notes in the Home Entertainment department, at the Service Desk and at the CSM desk... ;)

So you get pissed because someone scammed you, or tried, but you tell others to do it?
Genius.

No, I'm not 'pissed' that he tried to "scam" me at all. Had he just brought in the ad and said he wanted it and I said no, that'd be it. It was that he went out of his way to lie to me to try to get it - then got mad at me because I said no.
And besides, I wouldn't really say I was "pissed" at all.

I think the OP is moreso pissed at the dude for outright lying to him, rather than the actually pricematching incident.

WTF is Pamida?
It's a crappy little store with overpriced CDs (like $20) and such. They only go into small towns where there is *no* competition.

"Here is a misprint from Pamida. Please give me this price."

I wouldn't mind a PSP for $149.88.

I don't get why hapless losers that work the counters think that they're some kind of hero by thwarting someone trying to price match a misprint. You don't get any more money and shit, if you follow the rules, call up a place and they said they had them in stock, fu(k it, give it to the dude for the price shown in the ad. What the hell do you care? Stick it to The Man.

Ah well I'm still pissed off at Walmart for not PMing SW Battlefront 2 from black friday a long ass time ago.

The guy probably went to Pamida first and they refused to honor the price screw up, so he took it to walmart which, in general, has the stupidist employees of any retail chain hoping to get a price match.
Unfortunately for him, he didn't get an idiot employee and didn't get the price match.
Of course, there isn't any proof of this.. but it sounds logical enough to me

That's pretty much what must have happened. When I called Pamida, I mentioned something about the "PSP in the ad" to which the person on the other *quickly* replied that it was a misprint and they will not honor it, blah, blah... So *if* the guy went there and didn't see any on the shelf, I'm willing to bet he would have asked if they had any instead of driving to another town in another state just to go through the trouble of price matching. When he would have asked, regardless if they had any instock at that moment in time, I'm willing to bet they would have mentioned it was a misprint. This doesn't even count the fact that they likely have a notice posted on the door and on the case where they keep the PSPs to begin with.
Also, Pamida (at least the one in question) doesn't get Saturday/Sunday deliveries. So unless the two units were returns, they had 'em since at least Friday.
And, finally, to answer the question of "What do I get out of it" - it's simple. I get the satisfaction of properly doing my job, I don't care what my job is, what I'm getting paid or who I'm working for - if I agree to do a job, I'm going to do it to the best of my abilities and (I dare say) I'm going to do a damn good job. Even if I agreed to walking behind a horse in a parade scopping up poop, I'm going to do it well because it all comes down to how much respect you have for others and how much you want others to respect you.

Pamida was sent down a notice from corporate on Thursday or Friday not to honor the misprint. Still I went to the closest one today hoping to get an uniformed employee and a manager to do the override that wasn't paying attention. I went in an they had signs plastered all over the PSP section apologizing for the misprint. Needless to say I didn't run into any luck. Would have been nice considering I would have 10% off for being a ShopKo employee (ShopKo owns Pamida, I believe)

You know what gets me though... The ad says that the $149.88 is the "Lowest price of the season". Implying that the price shown in the ad is some kind of price drop from what the item was before.
Yet the price of the item is the same as it has been since it came out, correct? So, then, how would this be the "Lowest price of the season"?
Sometimes I wonder about these "Misprints"...
It's really strange that everyone is ragging on the OP. He was just doing his job. Even though he turned a customer away he posted the possible deal for all of you. If one person here can take advantage of it I'm sure they would be grateful for the information.

So, it is bad to take advantage of the op.
BUT it is perfectly OK to try it at every other store (you still have to lie and pretend not to know about the misprint)
That just doesn't make any sense to me.
If the op moral is high (which is a good thing), then he/she shouldn't be telling us to take advantage of this misprint.
So Pamida isn't honoring the price? Our only luck is stupid employees that will proce match?

Yeah, I used to work at Staples a while ago and I just remember helping people out with little things price wise. I remember these post-it tabs on the clearance table that wre missing a few of them and they were marked at something rediculous even for a clearance item (like $3)... So the women I was helping looked at me and asked "Is there any way I can get this for cheaper since it's missing some and looks kindy shoddy?" to which I replied, "How much do you wanna pay for it?"
She told me she would pay 50 cents and I said alright and took a clearance tag put it on the item and wrote 50 cents on it and told her she was all set.
Another time there was a woman who got confused because either another customer or a new employee put the some binders in the wrong place on the shelf. So since it was a buy more save more (i.e. buy 3 get them for like $3 each). I looked at the shelf and saw she was getting a deal because these binders were usually like $5-$6 each. So I went up with her and told the cashier the situation and said that the price was mismarked (which it was), and she got 3 binders for $9 + tax when it usually would've cost her $15-$18 + tax.
Anyone else have stories like these where you just take pity on a customer and bend the rules just a little bit so you can give them a deal?

No, and the problem with this is that you broke a company policy. So this customer will come back and try it again.

Capitalism is a philosophy based on constant price warfare.
All is fair in love and war.
Corporations try their damndest to screw the little guy. We all have to do our part to screw them back.

The chances of anyone getting a price match are slim to none. I'm sure there will even be people who will just see the ad (and not this post on CAG) and try to price match it without knowing its a misprint...so are they wrong too?
I wasn't even talking about the morals of the situation it just seemed funny that despite the OP doing his job correctly people still ragged on him even after he posted the deal for other people. Ragging on him for doing his job. Whether or not you think its moral doesn't really apply to my post.

Well, you see the problem is that I had been working for Staples for a long time at that point...and you don't get an employee discount plus Staples took away spiffs about 3 years ago...so there really isn't any incentive to work hard mind you.
Yet, I still found myself working hard for the company and always following the rules. Then one day I realized that people shouldn't have to wonder if the correct item is in the correct spot (which was the case with the binders). In fact, I told her the situation that I wasn't supposed to do it for her but I would this time (how many times have I heard that while shopping before). She may think that I was just saying that and I was supposed to give her the deal anyways, but I told her that if she had gotten any other associate they would've told her that the binders were in the wrong spot and that was the wrong price for them.
So, this customer will not be back to try it again because if they do so, they will be shot down.

Back when I worked in target for a few summers the store had a policy that if something was under $20 and it seemed legit you could change the price. I'd do it if someone seemed honest and it was a reasonable price. But for the people who were a pain in the ass just looking to rip off the store I wouldn't budge an inch. I'd just spend the 10 minutes to call the person from the area knowing they would tell me the computer price was right.
