Is there any way to automatically update the library in iTunes everytime it starts or even manually? I'm tired of having to put in each individual file by going to "Add File". This is the only thing stopping me from using iTunes over Winamp. Somebody help!

wow. As e-music friendly as iTuNeS is supposed to be that's an amazing omission.
I use Windows Media Player 10 with Minilyrics plug in, and you can just go 'Library , Tools, Search for Media Files, and pick the directory and it gets everything.

How about instead of Add File, the button below it titled Add Folder?
Why don't you just buy your cd's so you can rip them :D

Add folders is pretty much the only way to add more than one folder of music into iTunes. It def takes much longer than WMP does. WMP found all 5000 songs on my PC and added them all in 3 minutes. iTunes takes a long time and doens't really find your music. But browsing-wise and music wise, iTunes is MUCH better than WMP.

Go here and check out the Itunes Library Updater:

It also can get rid of files that were moved so you dont have those annoying broken links in your itunes library window. I highly reccomend this program. It can also auto add everything from new from specified folders. It has some great features.

That's weird Anderson-- maybe you've left something unclicked cause mine has always automatically updated. the stuff I DL goes into my Itunes folder and it comes up after a reload/refresh
Edit: it may be the tags on the music. that can be a bitch.
