So, I was just minding my business a few minutes ago, playing some DMC3...when I get a call from a friend of mine who works at TRU. He was in a kinda weird panic over something he heard gaming related, and so he wanted my expertise on the situation. (Since I am, for the most part...the "go to" guy around here for gaming news)

But yea...he said that the Microsoft rep that comes to talk to them or something along those lines said after this shipment they're getting for April 2nd (they got 6 premiums only he said), they're not getting any more. He was kinda shocked...because the way it was worded...the guy made it seem like they were discontinuing it or something. Now, I'm not stupid enough to think that there is even a chance in hell of that happening...but I'm certainly confused right now.

PLUS he told me they're selling the 399.99 regular bundle for 299.99, instead of the core one being that low. That he says is 100% for a fact since he heard that straight from the boss there (not to be confused with me claiming that its like that everywhere, or if it is even YMMV...just at this one...and for god knows why). So I know he is picking me up one for 299, which is fantastic...but I just wanted to see if any CAGs knew just what the hell he was talking about when they said they weren't making them/shipping them anymore.

My guess is that the particular TRU in question (in Fayetteville, Arkansas if anyone is curious) isn't getting in anymore. But for all I know, and all he knows...that store isn't closing down anytime soon...so I can't imagine why that would be the case.

Sorry, but I think there was some massive confusion at your buddy's store. There has been no mention of it at our store at all, on the intranet or anything. We have our shipment, but they're all being held for next Sunday, solely because the 360 is being featured in the flyer. That's it. I have ad sitting on my desk, right in front of me. I mentioned this to my manager today and he can't make any sense of it either. Why mark a high-demand item down $100 when they will sell just as fast at the current price? Besides, prices are more-or-less set by MS, I don't know if they could get away with that much undercutting anyhow.

My manager agrees that the manager there has some issues understanding this... There was a new update on the intranet today stating that there is a roto hold on all 360s so that they will be in stock when the feature ad runs.

Each store has received multiples of each system (mine has 6 premium, 2 core), and they are being held until this sunday, when they will be available for sale. Get there early, and you're practically guaranteed one.

How is that a "big mistake"? If they put them all on the shelf as soon as they get them, they will be sold out before April 2nd rolls around. Then all the people who saw the sales paper will show up that morning, and be really pissed off because the ad said the store would have it, but it doesn't. Who do you think they'll direct their anger at? The store employees.

Whether they put them on the shelf March 31st or April 2nd, they will still sell every last unit, but if they wait, they get the added benefit of no one being pissed off and no one yelling at them.

yea, definitely not a bad decision to hold the 360s until the ad. many stores do it, not just TRU. why have the systems float around during weekdays where it is usually boring, slow and dead (retail people can back me up on this). keeping them until the weekend ads, where obviously there will be the most traffic in the store, and people going place to place after looking at the ads in their Sunday paper.

has anyone been to a TRU today? I fear going into work today because it might be like launch all over again.
