I was trying to play a friend in some Starcraft over battle.net, but it's giving me an error when I try to connect to battle.net. The error it gives me is: "Unable to connect to Battle.net. If you are using a modem to access your service provider and are not configured for Dialup Networking, you may have to initiate the connection manually."

I have checked the battle.net site to see what might solve the problem and it mentions that port 6112 needs to be opened for UDP packets (it already is from what it says in my router's settings) and that ports 116 and 118 are not restricting outgoing packets (not sure how to go about checking this). For my current network setup, my PC connects to my router, which connects to my modem, which is where the cable connection is originates.

I just reinstalled the game on my current PC, though I've never really had a positive experience with connecting to battle.net and playing others (on old PC a few years ago). Any help on how to be able to connect to battle.net?

Maybe you got a temp ban for some reason? Same thing happened to me when I downloaded StarChat (program to chat on battle.net) and opened it 5 different times along with StarCraft and was arguing...with myself about how much starcraft sucks...I couldnt get back on for awhile after that :-P

How could I get banned from a service I couldn't connect to? Wouldn't that have to involve me being able to actually get on, create an account or whatever, and then do something to piss someone off?

I could always connect to WC3, but never host games. I found out it had to do with a port I had closed on my router.

Just opening a port doesn't always fix the issue. Sometimes you have to setup portforwarding on your router to make all incoming connections on a specific port go to a certain location. It can be a monkey of a pickle, but if worse comes to worse, take your router model to the battle.net forums.

Don't ask stupid questions. Just accept my highly valued advice for what it is.

I am, but it still doesn't work when I turn it off, so it can't be that.
