I picked this up yesterday at BB. I can't get it to run. Well here are my system specs:

P4 2.4 GHz socket 478
512mb PC2700 DDR
Asus P4S8X-X with an onbord sound card
ATi Radeon x700 Pro 256MB GDDR
I have three harddrive totaling close to 300GB of space

Now before you say "H3y n00b, update ur dr1v3rz" I did that. And no I don't expect that kind of responce here. I see intellegnce here. Anyway, I am on a DSL connection and can play other online games. The game takes a few minutes to load and kicks me off for having a high ping. Is there anyway to lower my ping? Please help!

I kid, i kid... are you having any other problems playing anything else on steam or just the source? The only thing Ive ever had not work on steam was a video error for running the game on my x800 pro. It had video artifacts due to the x ati cards needing to be registry modified. Have you checked if your behind some sort of firewall with ports that are bad? I dont know what to say man....

I will have my networking dork friend look at it later this week. I have the Half-Life 2 demo and I cranked the settings way up and it runs mostly smooth. I really need to reformat and reinstall. It is that time of the year. I mean there are some hangups, but nothing compared to DoD:S. Hopefully I can get this to run.

Steam has high CPU or high ping problems recently, check this site out for help:

Be careful on some of this stuff like switching Hyperthread to a single CPU crap.

Also make sure you pick servers with low pings and/or that are close to your city you can adjust the server list to show servers with low ping.
