So I go into bestbuy today, wanted to pick up a game with the RZ coupon, and what do I see right when I walk in? A sign stating this: "Need help with your mp3 player? Get 1 on 1 training from the GeekSquad!"
Heres where it gets good.
"1 hour: $159.99"
"2 hours: $229.99"
Are you fucking serious? What the hell are they smoking? I couldn't believe it. I thought it was a joke at first. Man, I was so tempted to take a pic of it with my phone, but some worker was watching.
1. Why in the hell do u need help with a mp3 player?!?!? It comes with instructions and if your buying a mp3 player for your own use in the first place, then chances are you already know wtf to do.
2. Who wants to spend 2 long hours on learning this shit from a geeksqaud dude...boring
3. It should only take around 30 mins to get the hang of it.
4. 159-229 THAT MORE THAN A fuckNG NANO!
ok im done...just really bugged me. I just can't believe it.

Did it maybe include the purchase of an iPod?

Whats even better is they will install your games on your computer for about $40-50. If you can't put a disk in your computer and follow the instructions and click a few times, you shouldnt be allowed to operate any electronics.

Nope. I really need to take a picture of this. Does anyone else have this sign?

There are some people that aren't very tech savy, say for instance all of our parents. They didn't really grow up with this kind of stuff and it's all pretty new/strange.
Bestbuy is trying to take advantage of these people. It's a business.
Bestbuy probably pays the guy doing the one on one training $11-15.
Take that out of $160 an hour. They are making a net profit of about $145, for providing a very simple service. Pretty smart if you ask me.
 That is awesome.
Still as zewone says there are some people who are just completely intimidated by anything tech. My mom still won't buy anything through a website. I'd imagine anyone in our gen is perfectly fine with fumbling around with a new gizmo and figuring stuff out on the fly, but some people are terrified they'll fuck it up or something I guess.
Still that seems way overpriced. That must include the guy coming out to your house and setting everything up on your computer and everything, right? I guess with a house call it's not too ridiculous, but I couldn't help mocking the crap out of anyone that bought that service.

Man. I have thought so much of covertly placing an ad for myself, saying "will do all of these services, gauranteed, for half price of geek squad."
Then I think about how goddamn annoying all those clueless people would be.
Still, that price is criminal for Ipod training. Especially when Ipod, of all things, is so damn simple to operate to begin with.
If you can't take the time to read the instructions and learn how to do everything within an hour, maybe you deserve to pay such charges to prove you are a total moron. I mean, how many steps are there? Insert CD, plug in Ipod, put in music CD and hit import, then make it sync.

Ya got that right on the older generations being terrified of breaking something if it's tech related. Doesn't make much sense to me... I see something tech, I sit down and mess with it and all it's options til I understand it. Worse case? Just set everything back to default settings and try again, piece by piece.
I try like hell to convince older people to just mess with the tech stuff til they understand it, they really can't break it. But ya know what I notice? About a quarter of the older people I urge that they can't break the thing.. they're just using that excuse cuz they have no interest/too damn lazy to try to figure out the device on their own. Go figure. Some of 'em are just the stereotypical old dog that can't learn new tricks... by their own choice.
If you buy a PC there, they charge you $40 to do the 1 minute procedure of setting Windows XP up for you (entering your name, the time-zone, etc.).
All in all, a pretty good deal.

$129 fucking dollars to install a stick of RAM?
Now I don't feel so bad for fucking them up the ass with their own fuck-ups.

I'm almost certain they get paid so much due to idiots they have to deal with. If I worked for Geeksquad or whatever, had to deal with these people more than once on a day to day basis and didnt make over 20 dollars an hour, you can shove it up your ass and do it yourself.

back in the olden days of prebuilt computers that best buy sold (esp HPs) it was a real BITCH to install or change out internal parts (hard drives, memory, etc). You would have to unscrew or remove something first to get to part you want to change or upgrade not to mention the thick cables in the way. A small fee would be ok for the trouble but not the prices they are asking.
according to bestbuysucks.org there are a lot of fishy stories reported both customer and employee sides of the Geek Squad department.
I would not pay there prices...ask around, someone will know.
I really would not trust them with installing any type of software on my computer as I've heard they tend to fuck up something so later you have to come back and have them fix it for a price.
Windows installs aren't too bad, but they are very time consuming. Once you set up the nessasary information its automated. Just making sure that the devices you have for it are compatible and your good to go.

Jesus.. don't they charge enough for their services without having to troll for repeat business? I guess once you have some moron hooked, you should do everything you can to keep that moron shelling out his dollars... but their profit margins are so ludicrous.

At these prices they should throw in a shirt that says "Geek Squad Raped Me Then Gave Me This Shirt."

What I find more than a little sad is the sheer simplicity of... nearly everything that you have to pay the Geeksquad to do. Now I know that there's the arguement that old people who aren't tech savvy would have a hard time, but good God, is it that difficult to read the instructions? They tell you exactly what the Geeksquad "agent" will, except your manual won't anally fuck you and then steal your wallet.

Fix'd ... although, it might need to be written on both sides now.

Just call 1 800 GEEK SQUAD (1 800 433 5778) and Agents will help you boost your computer’s acceleration (boot time) and system performance by 86-ing unwanted files and unnecessary background processes. We’ll bring your system up to speed with the most recent updates to guard against security threats we’ll defrag (clean up) your hard drive. Have an Agent perform the system tune-up remotely* (http://javascript%3Cb%3E%3C/b%3E:popUp%28%27remoteservices_popup.html%27%29;) through your broadband connection or guide you step-by-step through the process over the phone.
All for the low, low price of $99 dollars!

Although you could probably train a chimpanzee to replace pc memory in about 20 minutes, if theres one thing this country has no shortage of, its people with more money than common sense.
I dont expect people to be able to change their own memory or vid card, or know how to clear out cookies and temp files. But what they should realize is that a) Best Buy is WAY overcharging for these services, and b) maybe you cant do these things to your pc, but you could probably find someone you know to do it for free.

I would like to think that this is bad but I just spent about 2 hours last weekend trying to explain to my parents how an mp3 player works.
