View Full Version : South Park dictates what to watch

What is with the episode of South Park that is on right now? Every line is a blatant attack against Family Guy, and the only thing funny about it is the irony of the whole situation.

Are the creators of South Park jealous of Family Guy, or is the whole thing meant to be ironical? It's a stupid episode either way.

I dunno but their point about every joke being completely independent of the storyline and interchangable is pretty spot on.

South Park and its creators have always said that they hated Family Guy. I can't blame them to tell you the truth. The show is funny, but only for certain parts and not like people make it out to be.

They're making fun of Family Guy... and I'm missing it? :(

I'm not a fan of South Park, but I loathe Family Guy. I'll have to download this. I guess it's a two-parter, too.

I'm always a fan of people tastefully alienating their audience, too (specifically when they alienate, or "douche", people from something they enjoy simply because they're offended for no good reason). I'd say 90% of the people who love South Park love Family Guy, so power to them.

If you view this as South Park dictating what you should watch, you're the punch-line of tonight's episode. Reverse-comedy rules.

True, I enjoy both shows either way though, South Park moreso as of late.

Fuck, I'll need to catch it on rerun.

IT'S A TWO PART EPISODE. How cheap.

The episode wasn't very funny, not even a little bit, since they were more about dissing Family Guy than trying to make you laugh. That's not a smart move for a comedy show.

Since they openly hate Family Guy, I should be able to say this freely: They hate them because they are jealous. I get that some of you don't find Family Guy funny because of the random offshoots from the story, but at least they aren't dictating things like South Park is doing now.

Summary:

Family Guy was supposed to air an episode depicting Mohammad, which they said was going to be offensive. Then they showed a bunch of live footage of actual Muslim riots and edited interviews of important Taliban leaders to diss Family Guy. Ironic to take a severe message about hating everything America stands for and downgrade it to something like, "Family Guy doesn't even have good jokes."

I like both south park and Family guy, so this is nothing but funny to me. If you notice they make fun of themselves along with family guy.
I like how cartman was like you can't make fun of religion. :D

I guess everyone hates family guy. In a semi-recent simpsons (when they were in Italy) episode they showed a picture of Peter Griffin in a book it said plagiarism in Italian underneath the pic. Then they flipped the page and it showed a picture of American Dad's Stan and it said plagiarism of plagiarism underneath the picture.

I honestly think that South Park is running low on ideas right now. The last two shows were bad. I like this episode its funny to me poking fun of family guy. but it seems like they had nothing else to write about or could not think about anything thats going on right now to make fun of.

It's all a matter of taste: some of us have good taste, some of us have shitty taste.

Uh oh, sounds like they're getting away from comedy and just getting too into issues. I'll have to check it out for myself, but I really hope that hasn't happened; I've suspected it might for years.

Am I the only one who prefers the character based episodes (aka Scott Tenorman, the baseball league one, Asspen, most Christmas episodes) to the satirical ones?

They will re-air the episode at midnight, if they are still following that schedule... just catch it then.

That's mainly why I didn't think it was funny. Why couldn't they have made fun of that kid that accepted money to take his clothes off on a webcam for a porn site and is now trying to sue the porn site? Inciting a flame war with another show is just childish...

It's all a matter of taste: some of us have good taste, some of us have shitty taste.

...sort of like this post.

The frequently run out of ideas, I found the episode pretty funny though. I like Family Guy because of the random completely unnecessary jokes.

Some of you guys do realize that was mostly about the Danish cartoons that led to the war, terrorism, etc? Then, throw in them busting on Family Guy, busting on themselves, some Scientology shots, and then finally busting on the network (Catholics wanting Bloody Mary pulled, Scientologists getting Trapped in the Closet Pulled)....this episode was classic.

In my opinion, of course.

I thought about the episode more and the only thing thats making me like the episode is Cartman being a hypocrite. Other then that the shots they are taking at Family Guy are extremely cheap.

It was the base of the story at first but most of the dialogue focus on family guy with the Danish cartoons as the 2nd storyline or the storyline running in the background you could say.

Man, South Park has really been on a role lately. Just caught part of it.

I think everybody is missing the point.

They weren't dogging Family Guy.

They were dogging the West's acquiescene of how Mohammed should or should not be depicted.

I don't get how Southpark is dictating what I watch. Or why exactly they would be jealous. All I'm getting is that Blade has some issues.

That southpark episode was amazing. The family guy "parody" they had in the episode was so spot on I thought I was watching an actual Family Guy episode. If you took the flashback sequences and looonnnngggg drawn out "jokes" (see Peter tripping and making an "ow" type noise for the next 3 minutes) away from family guy they wouldn't even have a show over there. South Park is the much better show, much more original rather than a slightly updated and edgier simpsons with lame flashback sequences.

South Park is great with reverse-comedy. With Scientology, they made fun of it... but not as much as what Scientology did in it's reaction, to itself -- far funnier and far more pathetic than they were depicted in the episode.

South Park alienated a good percentage of the "adult cartoon" viewing audience, and anticipated this type of cry baby reaction. Let the joke make fun of itself.

Well it obviously wasn't just about hating family guy, but more about the danish cartoon thing, free speech, censorship in general, pussy television networks, blah blah, general south park take on issues.

EDIT: damn I shouldn't take so long to post things....6 posts by the time I hit submit :-P.

More power to Matt and Trey.

Even though Family Guy is funny at times I still can't watch a full episode because of the fact that MacFarlane is a hack. Example: Jimmy Corrigan, the Smartest Kid on Earth. It's almost equal to the disdain I have for Carlos Mencia

I'll catch it from time to time and have a nice little chuckle at Stewie and maybe Peter for 5 minutes... then find something else.
