Naruto: Rise of a Ninja is surprisingly enjoyable. Once you get past the first hour, the single-player campaign becomes a real treat. And the combat system, while not deep, is a lot of fun. Fans of the Naruto anime will absolutely want to pick this one up. Those who've never watched Naruto can still get a lot of joy out of this game. It may even inspire you to check out the series on DVD. Naruto: Rise of a Ninja isn't the best adventure game or the best fighter on Xbox 360, but the two pieces fit together to make for one of the better games on the system. 8.0 = OXM

From what I understand its a non-exclusive deal. So whoever is working on the GCN ones wont be affected.

The GCN and GB ones got pretty good reviews 7 or 8's from what I recall. I've heard from fans that have imported the games that they are good. Ubisoft is one of the best game companies IMO, so I dont think it will be horrible *knock on wood*

you're right, the Ps2 narumett Hero was pretty fun. However I wouldnt keep my hopes up. I don't see the point tho since the ps2 one looks superb already.

The fighting games were decent, most DBZ games were pretty decent, the JPN DS Bleach games are some of the best 2-D fighters out there, the DS Jump series is pretty good, one of the One Piece games is pretty much the best thing we got to a Power Stone sequal.

Honestly, anime games are pretty 50/50. Of coarse that number changes based on your hatred or love or general indifference to the anime in question, or even anime in general.

That aside, I'm hoping Ubisoft gives this the team & time it needs, as it could end of being one the greatest 360 games ever made. Of coarse they could (and most probably) go the TMNT route and just crap out a crappy clone of one of their flagship franchises.

Also, there's way more info, as well as more screen shots in (I think) the newest OXM (the one with PGR4 on the cover).

Yes, thats the theme song here in the US anyway...well it was for Season 1, Season 2 changed but that song still rolls through the credits...its a pretty cool song and its catchy. I gotta see if I can find a good MP3 of it somewhere.

I like that little pause, it gives the punches/kicks a more visual impact. Some of the other Naruto fighting games don't illustrate the severity of the hits enough, in my opinion.

I have half of them on CDs/DVDs, and it's at 25 (19 CDs, 6 DVDs) and I dont have 219,220, and Shippuuden 1-32 copied yet, that's about 2-3 more DVDs.

The fighting looks like it has potental here, but I was never really a fan of the RPG aspect of past Naruto games, and so far Naruto 4 in Japan to me is by far the best out of them all. Well i've played about 2 full hours worth of the forest of death online and I'm still not Genin. I've gotten to the 2nd floor twice, but not in a very long time. If you can't get to the top few floors, forget about getting jounin, because it will take days upon days to get 7500 points.

Also there are apparantly 2 hit air combos for everyone, and they can hit someone on the gorund and they are just about impossible to counter. It's shitty as hell to get to the 3rd match and have someone do that over and over and there's really no stopping it.

I've gotten to the first 1,000 pts floor where I got my ass kicked. Yesterday I had problems getting jutsus off fast. Today killer aerial combos seem to be big and I haven't bought many combos in story mode so I've no idea what works well.

The japanese voices are coming as a free download from ubisoft. Along with Shikamaru as a playable fighter.

Honestly, I really love naruto, but i don't know if this game is going to be worth 60 unless you are a big fan. The fighting is kind of shallow and frantic, basically you find 1 or 2 combos that work and use them over and over.

Underneath the paint it is a pretty run of the mill platformer/exploration game. You got your crazy taxi minigames (deliver ramen, and races)

The story is beyond shortened. I mentioned it before, but really if you have any interest in Naruto at all, and are hoping to get story from this game, watch the show first. The game presents the story(not helped by awful awful voice work) in a terrible way.

Last night one of the side quests I did was, "I lost my bag in the woods, can you go get it for me." This was right after i had to collect 10 herbs for the 2nd or 3rd time. I wouldn't call the sidequests and minigames tedious, but you have probably done them all before a lot in other games.

Overall, I'd be more inclined to give it a 7.5. Fighting can be cheap, the camera can be a hassle sometimes(but thats all platformers).

On positive notes, running around konoha is incredibly satisfying. The leaf village, and all the characters are presented in an amazing amount of detail. And although the minigames are been there, done that, they are still very fun. Chakra control using the 2 analog sticks is a fantastic mechanic.

I have about 6 hours so far, and I'm a big fan that has really enjoyed the game. If you are on the fence though, I say wait til it drops, or rent it. It can be beaten in a rental anyway.

No there is no code, and the only ones available are a team 7 pack for 80 points. Kakashi, Sasuke, Sakura, and naruto.

As for the fighting, It just seems very sloppy. Later on once you power naruto up with all of the combso etc it becomes easier, because then you can dumb-luck yourself into a combo.

I beat the game last weekend and i cant seem to be motivated to complete the minigames. I rated it a 7.5 earlier in the thread but I'd really probably give it sub-7 now that I have had time to reflect on it.

think I used up+y, y, x, then once they were in the air jump x, x, y for pretty much the entire game. then land, level 3 kage bushin.

One thing that seriously hurts the fighting is the rage mechanics. Get someone dangerously low and they can go invincible for a while and target your weak spot for massive damage. I've lost more online battles than I can count to that shitty mechanic.

Sorry, but it was left bumper on the world map, not right bumper! (Then, go to combos.)

While paused during a match, simply scroll down to "Combo List." Also in that menu is "Jutsu List," which is what you just referred to.

It's just another fetch quest. Hold X down and choose the scroll that matches the potatoes mission (if you have more than one). Then, follow the 'X' on the map until you fight the guys at the potatoes. Once you beat him/them, you will have them.

I understand, but I just don't know if they should've rated it that high.

It tries to mesh a platforming game with a fighting game, and IMO, it doesn't do either one that well. The platforming has you visiting the same locations over and over, and are either a fetch quest or a race.

And the fighting system has been done so much better with other Naruto games. Substitutions make up the bulk of the fighting if you are playing another player. Combos are almost non-existant (against human players), because they will simply substitute out of every combo attempt. Basically, it comes down to who can gather their "Rage Mode" power first and knock the other guy out.

Now, I wouldn't consider this a "bad" game...especially because I played and completed it. But so many things about it make it deserve a more "average" review score.

EDIT: Seeing the cutscenes were nice, though I feel they cut it up just a bit too much in some parts. I will say it was definitely great to hear the authentic music in-game.

And I wish they would've had the option for Japanese voices. I have watched the entire show subtitled, and I would have liked to hear the game with those actors.

I don't think they are going to patch better game mechanics. Yes, new characters and a language are both very nice for dlc, but the fault isn't in what they are giving more of, it's the games basic mechanics.

Just beat the game tonight. I didn't like how abrupt the ending was. If I didn't know a thing about Naruto, I would be pretty confused (as they didn't say a thing about Itachi and/or Kisame).

I probably won't go do the side quests. Something about fighting bandits and delivering Ramen just seemed tedious to me.

The X appears to be in a cave, but when I get to the cave, I can't find the potatoes. Its probably above the cave, but I dunno how to get above.

Well from what i can tell you can't redo missions, so i can't go back and try it again and tell you, but I don't remember any quest giving me any trouble. They all give you the goal X, just follow until you get to it. Sometimes you have to circle around a different way. Go back and check for any branches in the path that you didn't see.

i too had no trouble at all completing any of the missions, if i can remember, you are on the right path to getting the potatoes, and if all else fails gamefaqs.com , but usually just follow the X and make sure you hold X and choose the potato mission.

The Hokage is missing, as he would be dead by this time in the storyline... but I'd really like to get some memoclips for some of the side missions I have left. holy shit thats crappy. i was wondering why you had all of the hard ones done and didnt have sexy jutsu finished.

Has anyone gone for 100% collection yet and found that 2 coins don't register. Apparantly they are bugged and give a different sound when you pick them up, and don't add to the total, thus bugging the 100% achievement.

I played some more last night and I too am stuck on the last ninja race. I could probably get it pretty quick if I could keep from getting throw my controller pissed at the scamera angle....or running into a rope and it not registering.....or getting stuck on the edge of something in the environment.... 66/77.

Damn, that sucks... I maxed all the jutsus out before I finished the game so I was able to get that achievement.

And yeah, I can only make it to about 64/77. I have that and a couple of side missions to do (about 4 of them.) I'm having trouble going back though since I'm enjoying much better games (Mass Effect for example.)

I enjoyed Rise of a Ninja while it lasted, it's definitely a game to rent though... I practically finished it in one sitting and I was able to complete everything else in a matter of a couple of days.

I got zero audio when talking to people (like before the Neji fight, he was talking and I couldn't hear anything). Or when I talk to Erosennin, there's no audio. I switched to English to get the audio but its freakin lame. Know what I can do?

I pulled it off once fighting Sakura. The way you move the shadow is inverted...so if you want the shadow to move up you press down (press left if you want to go right etc.). Not only that, but you have to get the very tip of the shadow to be at the opponent's foot AND hold for maybe 1 second. I had plenty of time cause I was at level 2 but I can't imagine pulling it off with the same repeated accuracy of neji's jutsu.

If it's any consolation, the animation is pretty nice. Shikamaru pulls some kunai out, throws them at the opponent's feet (all of this is mirrored obviously) and then the opponent sees that Shikamaru attached exploding tags to the kunai FTW.
