I may have trouble explaining this.
But, let me first state that I am a Xbox fanboy. I have been ever since my ps2 laser broke and Nintendo released the bullshit Gamecube.
Before you explode in anger, let me ask you what is genuinely good about the gamecube _system_? Is there anything that makes it better than the other systems in its generation?
No.
Only the kickass (rehashed)games were.
This is not to say that I don't own any other systems: 2600, Nes, snes, genesis, saturn, ps1, n64, dreamcast, neogeo pocket, PSP, every gameboy(except lightboy), and Lynx. But, that when the dust settled after the last "war", it was clear that Microsoft's system had clearly won the hardware category. I understand that It was released much later than the others, but none of the "planned-use" features (ie. internet, hdd) ever came into true fruition for the ps2, let alone what nintendo shit out(handles and an unneccessary external power supply).
To point,
The problem with most people's arguements when talking about defective 360's is that they are overgeneralizing. They, like most people (myself included), exaggerate information to better validate their point. I really, truly hope people are not naive enough to believe that because they hear so many reports of defective units that it is a major or overwhelming problem. You are primarily hearing from the people with defective units.
I have not sought to express my gratitude for a working system. Neither have the five people I personally know with launch 360's. Nor should we have. You were not hearing from the people who don't have issues...
Until I saw the front page today telling the tale of the arduous "journey" of a disgruntled owner. :applause: He has every right to be angry. Why shouldn't he? He was obviously wronged by "M$." They went out of their way to make sure that he suffered. No other gaming manufacterer would offer such a disgraceful help-line. Three mistakes were made, all paid at his expense. Shame on microsoft for actually attempting to help by calling twice to confirm a known xbox-live problem when it was at the factory being repaired. For shame.
This is a first generation system. They were rushed to meet the demand of impractical holiday-shopping launch. I doubt that any other company in the world could have pulled off such a launch.
I personally waited in line to get my little brother's gamecube, my brother's xbox, and my ps2. Launch day. The only system(s) that still gets use at my house is the frickin' tank: the xbox. After I saw my brother's xbox I turned green with envy and went out to buy one as soon as I gathered the funds. I got home and we started to play system link halo when i noticed that my fourth controller port wasn't working. To make a short story shorter, within two weeks I had a working xbox and couldn't have been prouder. About a month later my friend noticed the same problem, except neither his 3rd nor 4th port worked. Two weeks later we were all lan'ing at my house.
I have never felt more satisfied with my encounter with any phone/website support. Ever.
I now realize that this post is quickly becoming an essay so I'll paraphrase the last bit. My dad works for sony. Still, my ps2 was going to cost 70 to be repaired after it stopped working shortly after the release of the THPS4 demo. It gathered dust until last year when I DID get the laser replaced and 2 months ago died AGAIN. I understand the DVD-lasers were relatively new at the time. As will the blu-ray lasers will be, to a much greater degree.
For that very reason I made sure to buy an extended warranty for my xbox360, even though I most likely will never need it.

I'm sick of console/company bashing. God damn. People will not just shut the fuck up and leave each other alone about trivial bull-shit. If you don't like Microsoft/Nintendo/Sony, no one cares. I'm surprised people haven't figured out that perhaps some people just have different tastes than them; it's a shocker I know. Just because you dislike something, it doesn't necessarily mean it's "ghey" or "st00pid," it just means that either: a) you're an intolerant, beligerant ass-hole who doesn't like to try different things, or b) you just plain don't like it. Neither of which gives you the right to be the authority on what is good or not.
Also, it's not a smart move to start a "Sick of 360 bashing" thread by bashing other consoles/companies in-turn.

Read the last line again. Nintendo produces some of the best games on a consistent basis. The Gamecube is shit. No two ways about it. The games that were made for it are great. The entire point of this article is to show that the 360 is a decent system and that the frontpage is not the place to post bullshit.

I feel awkward even using the phrase, 'great system'. The system is nothing without its games, it really doesnt do much good to evaluate the system on other terms, unless you mean to say that its durable or wont break down like a PS2.
The 360 is certainly a fine piece of hardware, but its not a very useful statement.

First of all, Gamecube, PSTwo, and X-Box 360 all have external power supplies
PS3 and Revolution will too, let me tell you why, overheating. It's a simply a functional issue. The PSTwo would burn in an hour if it had an intergrated power supply. Why do you think cheap mini tower eMachines break in less than a month? Because small enclosures made out of cheap material aren't made for internal power supplies. You want an internal power supply? You deal with huge consoles like the SEGA SATURN, the original Playstation 2, and the XBOX. You want small sleek sexy little consoles? You deal with the external power supplies: laptops wouldn't exists if not for batteries and the 10 pound external chargers/[power packs that come with them
As for 360 bashing, every console gets bashed, even the PS2 gets bashed, and just about everybody [non gamers] included enjoys or likes the PS2 in one way or another. Rebellious consoles like the 360, Gamecube, or Dreamcast get even more of it...
But also, it's not about software right now, the next generation is being defined by hardware. What are Nintendo/Revo fanboys orgasming about?! Games?! Software?! No, they're lusting over a freaking CONTROLLER, a CONTROLLER, not even the games that'll be used with it. What are Sony people going crazy for? No, not FF XIII or Gran Turismo 5 or Soul Calibur 4, they're raving about CELL, Blu Ray, and some stupid looking FPS game.
Naturally, what makes 360 what it is? Hardware, it's the most powerful console hands down right now, is even more of a media center than the PSX [only sold in Japan] and is high priced and an EXCLUSIVE ITEM [like the RAZR cell phone was at first]
And if you want to talk about software, 1/5 of the PS2 library ALONE can go head to head and rip your Gamecube and XBOX lists apart without much hassle, and that's not even getting into the out of print, import only, or hard to find games ,and much less counting the PSone backcatalog.
I cant think of a single example where this would be the case, but my thinking of consoles is purely game-centric.
The Nintendo Revolution and the DS.
They play games differently, which draws attention in on it's own.
Hell, when the handheld first came out, it sold mostly because of the hardware. "You can play it in the car, on the toilet, at work, anywhere!"
Same could be said for the home console when it initially came out.
This happens every now and then, when the way games are played differently.
The 360 is the same, as well. It's more of a straight forward approach to "gaming", but the system within the console is very multifaceted, unlike last generations Xbox, PS2 and GameCube, where you simply slap a game in the disc tray and play.

Yeah there is some 360 bashing on CAG. I noticed all those posts on the front page of Cheapassgamer: One about Japanese People not buying Xboxes; The other about Microsoft's bad customer service.
I think its due primarily to the fact that people that visit this site are here to find deals on games. That would lead me to assume that they allot little money to videogames. Seeing as the 360 is the most expensive system out. The correlation becomes obvious.
You bring up a good point. Japanese people do not buy xboxes. This is due to the fact that there will never be a foreign company that can establish itself, solely because American gamers prefer different games. They dislike FPS's and love weird shit, go figure.
Finally SOMEONE FINDS THE POINT.

Its unneccessary because the system was not powerfull enough to warrant it. It merely allowed it to be toted over to the nearest playground quicker, and more efficiently.

I'm amazed that you would defend Microsoft's hardware when both you and your friend had defective controller ports on your systems.
This is a first generation system. They were rushed to meet the demand of impractical holiday-shopping launch. I doubt that any other company in the world could have pulled off such a launch.Rushed to meet the demand that they had caused by setting an impractical launch date. If they couldn't keep up with the demand, they should have waited until they were ready.
For shame. Why shouldn't he be upset? No matter what the product I'm buying, I would be upset if it took more than two of a product to get me one that's working and working correctly. Again, if Microsoft hadn't made the 360 such a rush job, the chances of this happening would have been decreased.
While there may be a lot of 360 bashing, there's also a lot of 360 praise here. Personally, you like it, great. I hope I'm not the only one that finds it hypocritical for you to become an Xbox fanboy after your PS2 laser broke, when you had hardware problems with your Xbox as well though.
Not sure what you have against Nintendo, but if the "system" itself is what gets you off, go ahead and pop a giant boner when the PS3 comes out and jizz all over its spec sheet.

And if you want to talk about software, 1/5 of the PS2 library ALONE can go head to head and rip your Gamecube and XBOX lists apart without much hassle, and that's not even getting into the out of print, import only, or hard to find games ,and much less counting the PSone backcatalog.
Well put.

I could take any stance and defend just about all systems. I never questioned anyones sexual preference, nor did I call anything but the people who are "anti-360"(read: 90% of the ps2 user-base) stupid. I have tried to explain where I am coming from and I hope you'll understand I am trying to defend the 360.
I never once asked for the authority.
Howso?
I was referring mainly to fanboyism in general, and less about you and your original post in the first paragraph.

derder you sure are working hard to defend the 360, maybe you need to take a break have some Sunny D and take a nap and then continue to fight the good fight since it doesnt seem like your rant is working

I'm amazed that you would defend Microsoft's hardware when both you and your friend had defective controller ports on your systems.
Rushed to meet the demand that they had caused by setting an impractical launch date. If they couldn't keep up with the demand, they should have waited until they were ready.
This may be hard to follow. I'll seperate the points by spaces.
I'm suprised that it was so hard to understand. I was using the fact that I was so pleased with how the situation was handled to further my point. Had I had a more difficult time, like my ps2 experience, then naturaly my stance would change. My experience was in direct contrast to his. You may leave it at that, if you wish.
No one will deny that it was rushed. They had set a date that directly related to the ps3 and revolution. I personally believe that it was a mistake to release it as early. But bear in mind, had Sony kept their word and Nintendo continued waving sticks at them, then the release would have been perfect. Microsoft has gone on record to say that it was manufactoring problems that caused the delay. No one truly believed that the ps3 would be released in spring. There aren't even blu-ray players out yet. Microsoft did not become a world leader by making mistakes.
I lost alot of the remaining respect I had for sony when they officially delayed the ps3. I knew it was eminent, but still thought that they could possibly pull it off. Microsoft kept their word in the face or corporate suicide, and has faced the consequences: The front page of cheapassgamers.
For all of you out there, just imagine that nintendo pulled a sega. Just fucking imagine what they could accomplish if their systems, post snes, weren't shit.
I would love to masturbate on my ps3, however I will have to be working my hands to the bone to have 600+warranty by november. I may not be capable.

My mistake, I've become too accustomed to defending myself.

I think I'll take your advice about the break. However, I seem to be gaining ground in this "rant."

Sigh, I guess I'll just do these in order.
This is the type of response I expected. That's why I devoted a paragraph to you.
Read the last line again. Nintendo produces some of the best games on a consistent basis. The Gamecube is shit. No two ways about it. The games that were made for it are great. The entire point of this article is to show that the 360 is a decent system and that the frontpage is not the place to post bullshit.
i sure am lost as to why the gamecube is shit then.

Then why bother posting?
I just wanted to point out that the rest of your post is irrelevant because you set the tone by stating you're an Xbox fanboy. That's all.

This site is worse than most when it comes to 360 bashing. And after moving to Japan, Cheapy seems to be one of the worst. It must be subliminal messages being broadcast all over Japan.
Its gotta earn its keep. yes, it's still new and there's hype for each new game that comes out, no matter how generic it looks (like the Outfit, for example) but the fact is, it still needs a few killer apps and the games that are out need to stand the test of time.
now, compound that with all the bugs and dying systems (yes, it happens to every launch system, but that doesn't excuse it) and you've got plenty of reasons to bash it.
oh and by the way, of course cheapy is bashing it from japan-- it's failing miserably over there. there are less games out for it and no one gives a crap about it. what's he supposed to do...be all optimistic about it?
