The EB plan is better if you can actually go to a store and they have a unit in stock to swap it out with. Otherwise, send in your money to microsoft a.s.a.p. They never cashed my check even though I signed up for it on time.
Better yet, call them. Over the phone, not only did they not ask for my date of purchase, but they also gave me two year coverage for $39.90 instead of the normal $59.90. 18004MYXBOX

You should have tried to buy your system at Costco, you can return it any time for the full amount as long as you keep the receipt and original packaging. No need to buy a warranty.

Man, people abuse that policy so much. It's great and all but I feel sorry for Costco when someone returns a 2 Year Old huge HDTV. Even saw a lady return several pairs of clearly worn jeans. and :puke:

They both have PROs and CONs.
Microsoft Plan PROs
-Can be extended indefinitely for $60 every 2 years
-If the system is in short supply you can likely get a replacement faster through this plan
-Live Marketplace content purchased is tied to both your GamerTag and Hard Drive ID. If your system breaks and you don't have the Microsoft plan, you need to speak with XBOX customer support in order to switch your content's Hard Drive ID to the new replacement system you get from EB or wherever; if you don't do this, your XBOX Live Arcade games will be in "demo mode" when you are not connected to the Internet/signed into Live. While this sounds simple, it is not as generally the only way to do this (at least in XBOX1 days) was to have MS refund you for every piece of content you downloaded and then having you redownload them onto the new system. While there is hopefully a better system in place for the 360, the advantage of getting the Microsoft plan is that MS is required to have that content work on the replacement system they give you if they can't repair yours.
Microsoft Plan CONs
-You may get either a new or refurbished system
-Takes longer to get a replacement system when systems are plentiful in stores
-Cannot trade up to a new revision of the console
EB Plans PROs
-Get a new system right away when systems are plentiful in stores
-If a new revision of the console is available, you may be able to trade up to it when yours breaks
EB Plan CONs
-Have to convince Microsoft customer support to transfer the content ID of your purchased content to your new replacement console.
-If the 360 is in short supply, you are out of luck in getting a replacement system until they are back in stock
-After the warranty is over, it cannot be extended
Personally I'd go with the MS warranty, in my book their support has always been top notch and with the amount of purchasable content on Marketplace it just makes more sense.

Don't purchase any warranty, unless you like throwing money away. Just buy your 360 at a place like Costco where you can just return it down the road if it breaks. MS gives you 90 days anyway. If something is going to go wrong it most likely will be in that time frame. SEE ABOVE POST...SORRY.

I sent mine in on the last possible date, and they've already cashed it. Have you tried calling them yet?

Can anyone riddle me why the warranty paperwork in the 360 box wants $59.90 for check/money order payment, but states $49.90 for credit card!?!?
Also, how long does this take to process? I've read some stories of it taking quite some bloomin' time. Danke schoen!

I sent my form in February, they charged my card in April, and I still haven't gotten my paperwork.

It comes with a card to purchase it, or you can call them and register over the phone, some have found it cheaper this way, including myself. I got 2 years for 40 bucks.

when is the latest we can order this warranty? i just got mine a week ago...but debating on whether to gamble with or without the warranty (i hate to gambling, warranties/insurances are evil), can i wait until 1 week before the original 3 month warranty ends before shelling out 50 for the 2 year one?

DO NOT GAMBLE buy one of the warranties....
I had mine since launch and it died today with little warning except freezing this weekend.
I got the M$ warranty and never received anything in the mail from them but i'm covered till 2008 when I called. My coffin is in the mail.

Why would there be any need to do this? If you get a new console it's just like you purchased another one. Maybe I'm missing something but each console would have a separate ID/serial number, MS probably doesn't know the difference either. The only way I'd see this as a factor is if you returned it to the store and have the MS warranty as well.

I'm a little confused on this, the lady told me it was 59.90, but I told her it said 49.90 if I paid by credit card on the flyer thing. she told me it was for core, and i was like but it says 49.90 by credit card on this flyer that I got in my premium package. did I just get bullshitted out of my $10?

Yeah the eb one is better because you can swap it when ever you want to you have to send it to microsoft which will cost more money in the long run.

I procrastinated (sp?) and sent it in the last possible day (Feb. 22) and they still cashed it. So if you send it in within the 90 days that they give you for the warranty your good.

With the M$ warranty they send you a coffin via UPS to send the system back to them. You pay nothing but time and waiting....... I hope they are still doing overnight shipping because I ordered mine around noon yesterday, east coast time..... :bomb:
The bad part about the store warranties is they need to have a system to replace yours and that is still a problem in some places.
edit: shipping is 3 day select, to and from now.....
