Would this game be simple enough for a smart 8 year old to figure out? My nephew's birthday is coming up and he loves his GBA. I figured I'd get him this or one of the Mario Advance games at Target this weekend.
I know 8 year old who can figure out how to play advance wars and mega man exe, so it shouldnt be too hard to figure CoM.

I'd say go with mario. I know if I was eight years old, I'd much rather have a mario game than a role playing game.

yeah just get him Yoshi's Island, it's better anyway.

CoM isn't bad but you need to think quick and the story is kinda deep for a Disney game (similar to KH's but a lot stupider).
Honestly, even if he could play it I don't think you should make it. The game sucks.
You can never go wrong with Mario- and combo of Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island would be pretty sweet!:D

Absolutely go with Mario but not because CoM is difficult -- I'd go with highly repetitive and much like a chore by the end.
Yoshi's Island or SMB3 for the win.

mario for sure. CoM was great for the first 4 or 5 floors, but by the time i got into the double digit floors i quit playing and read spoilers on the ending. It's not that it's bad, it just drones on too much for its own good.
I love KH, but I can't bring myself to slog through CoM, and I even have the guide.

I saw CoM at KB Toys for $20 this weekend. Is it worth $20? I've been thinking about picking it up before getting KH2.

14.99 or maybe less at Sears. I wouldn't spend $20 on it personally.

It just gets boring after a while, like others have said. I read spoilers as well because I don't feel like going through the whole thing. Buy him Yoshi's Island.

sort of off topic but i have a few questions about the game.
1. what are Cloud cards?
2. how do I use the Vexen card. doesn't seem to be letting me use it. when I get down to 0 HP, it won't recharge it. isn't that what it's supposed to do?
thanks!

Go with Mario.
Kingdom Hearts is fun, but it's not entirely easy at points and it's pretty damn involving: you constantly are moving in battles due to the need of switching through your deck for cards and that jazz.

so I saw my nephew for the first time since I got Yoshi's Island for him-- he played it for about 2 hours straight at my family's mother's day gathering  he was so hooked. He'd run out and interrupt my conversations-- "Uncle James! Uncle James! I just got a 10 up! I just got a 10 upppppp!!!"

I got pretty bored with KH. It felt like I was playing the same exact level each time, only the backgrounds were painted different, and I fought more and tougher enemies each time. Can't go wrong with a Mario title though.

I kind of like it. I don't play it constantly (which might get tedious) but the new cards and abilities keep me interested in the game. On level 13 now. The Trinity sleight rocks!
My six year old son likes this game. He doesn't care much for the text, and he needs a little help organizing his deck, but he's found strategies that I missed. Don't underestimate a six year old ;)
You've probably figured these out by now, but...
sort of off topic but i have a few questions about the game.
1. what are Cloud cards?
Cloud gives you a powerful sword strike. Stringing two or more Clouds into a sleight amplifies the effect. Cloud is tremendously useful everywhere except for a couple of boss fights, as he does a lot of damage and can often get through enemies that Guard.
2. how do I use the Vexen card. doesn't seem to be letting me use it. when I get down to 0 HP, it won't recharge it. isn't that what it's supposed to do?
To use Vexen, you have to hit Select to get to your Summon cards and then use Vexen's card. Just having it in your deck isn't enough. Once you've done this, if you go down to zero Vexen will take effect and give you some health back.

Sweet, someone finally answered my question :) Thanks!

DS lite for Xmas, definitely :-) He's a big fan of brain age, but he's smart enough to know that Yoshi's Island is better than NSMB (that's what he said after a few minutes with it  )
