I am getting together with my guitar player to start playing acoustic covers at a couple bars in our area and I wanted to get suggestions about songs to do. They have to be songs people know (this way we could keep our gig) and would sound good acoustic (singer and guitar player). We would like to stay away from recent songs.
Here are the songs we are doing so far:
One- U2
American Girl- Tom Petty
Barely Breathing- Duncan Sheik
Hallelujah- Jeff Buckley
Like a Stone- Audioslave
Rock with You- Michael Jackson
Rain King- Counting Crows
Wish You Were Here- Pink Floyd
Gin and Juice- Hayseed Dixie (Snoop's song done Bluegrass style)
Something's Always Wrong- Toad the Wet Sprocket
Flake- Jack Johnson
Daniel- Elton John
Black- Pearl Jam
Dancing Days- Led Zeppelin
Sara Smile- Hall & Oates
Fake Plastic Trees- Radiohead
What’s Going On- Marvin Gaye
El Scorcho- Weezer
Say It Ain’t So- Weezer
Good Life- Weezer
Shimmer- Fuel
In Your Eyes- Peter Gabriel
If You Could Only See- Tonic
Any suggestions are appreciated.

when I was in a Band back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, I used to play "Highway to Hell" and "You Shook Me all Night Long" by AC/DC and "Crazy Train" by Ozzy acoustic, it always gets great crowd reaction and I always thought it sounded surprisingly good
I was going to say do a version of Gin and Juice. So nothing for me to add really
You could do Gettin Jiggy With It, also pretty funny acoustic. But one song like that may be enough really.

We only do two verses, after that we lose people.

Not Jeff Buckley, nor rufus wainwright (or whoever is remixing it these days) wrote Hallelujah - It was Leonard Cohen. (Just in case you might say that on stage)
As an acoustic singer, I find that -
"One Man Guy" - Loudon Wainwright III
"Angel From Montgomery" - John Prine
"Smells like teen spirit" - Nirvana
Are easy to sing along to and people love em'. I dont know how well "I wanna rock with you" is gonna go, but one time I got drunk and played "Girls just wanna have fun" at like 1/3 speed and people thought it was hilarious.

The only cover we've ever done is always a full on hit. It's little known song by the Kinks called "Animal Farm"... it's got those cool upbeat at first glance sounding lyrics, but very subversive, as most Kinks songs tend to be.
Has great harmonies in it. A huge crescendo at the ending thats done with strings but it's easy to have someone do the "Ba ba ba's" in lieu.
People come up to us and ask us the origins of that song every time we play it. You could probably find it on I-Tunes? I'm not sure which album it's on. I know Kinks fans that don't know about it.

Do somethin' like that.

Steal some of the songs off Alice in Chains MTv's Unplugged. Best unpluggeed perfermence eva imo. Alot better than Nirvanas. I always liked Alice better than Nirvana. Or yeah any of those Unplugged performences would work to steal from i guess.

My band's been doing "So Far Away" by Dire Straits acoustically lately. We do it in an Iron & Wine-ish style, and it goes over really well acoustic. So does "Pancho & Lefty" by Townes Van Zandt.
