Update 7/11: Fear Files

Vivendi today announced a new expansion pack for the Xbox 360 version of Fear, to be called F.E.A.R. Files. It includes the new F.E.A.R. Perseus Mandate campaign (to be released on PC), where you'll be able to play through the original game from other peoples eyes - a different perspective of what happened. Included is also Extraction Point, the already released PC expansion. No Playstation 3 version was mentioned, release this fall, and you can find the first images inside.

Update 6/25:

F.E.A.R.: Control and Conquer All Map Pack is available for free:

Name: Control and Conquer All Map Pack
Price: Free
Availability: Not available in Asia or Mexico
Dash Details: Download this FREE map pack and unlock the ability to play two new Multiplayer Modes, “Control” and “Conquer All,” on all your original FEAR multiplayer maps. In Control you capture areas of the map and must keep them from being recaptured by enemy forces. In Conquer All mode, your scoring is based on how many kills your team racks up and how many control points you have at the end of the round. Capture all 5 five control points to end the round early! Revisit of some of your favorite maps like, Rubble, Campus and Docks with a brand new twist!!
Size: 119.9 MB (approx.)

This title-update for F.E.A.R. adds the Control and Conquer All modes to multiplayer game play. Control and Conquer All are both new team game modes that pit each team in against each other in a struggle to dominate different control points on the map. Teams dominate control points by standing in proximity of the point and eliminating any enemies that come near the point.

In Control there are 3 control points on a map. Your team gains points based on the amount of time a control point is in their possession—the more control points your team has the faster your team gains points. The team with the most points at the end of the round wins.

In Conquer All there are 5 control points on the map. If either team can hold all 5 points at one time they win. If no team can control all 5 points simultaneously then the winning team is decided by points. Teams get 10 points for each control point taken, 10 points for each enemy point neutralized and 1 point for each kill.

To play Control or Conquer All on the maps that shipped with F.E.A.R. download the free Control and Conquer All pack which adds the control points to the maps.

The title update also makes F.E.A.R. compatible with new maps that will be made available for purchase throughout the summer.

In addition to adding the new game modes to F.E.A.R. multiplayer the title update also makes it so a host in a Player Match can invite Friends to public slots as well as private slots.

Blood splatter has been added to enemy uniforms after being shot to make combat more visceral.

Players now have a full HUD fade option in the HUD fade speed slider to make game play more cinematic. Players who choose this option will only see HUD elements when they are needed.

Developed by Day 1 Studios in conjunction with Monolith Productions, F.E.A.R. is an intense first person close-quarters combat experience with rich atmosphere and an engaging, paranormal horror storyline. F.E.A.R. is planned to ship for Xbox 360 during Spring of 2006.

Confirmed by UK OXM Not sure if its a straight up port of the original  , or the announced sequel/prequel made by some other company.

It can't be a sequel/prequel as those won't be called F.E.A.R.

I'm a little concerned about that as well. Didn't Monolith say that they didn't have the rights to the game? (I believe they said VU owned the rights to the F.E.A.R. name). If so, who is porting this game over? I'm a little worried it might be a quick and sloppy port job.

Hopefully if that XNA crap is as good as MS seems to think it is, there won't be any/many quick and sloppy ports of games. Anyway, it seems pretty logical for F.E.A.R. to come to 360 as Condemned is going to PC now and I believe the use the same engine or a modified version of the same engine, so porting two should be nearly as easy as porting one.

I'm not as giddy as most over this because my PC actually handled F.E.A.R. very well, but it's such a good game I wouldn't mind revisiting it on 360, if even just on a rental.

I seriously doubt it. They'd need to retool the entire game quite a bit to get it to look much better on 360. Plus, the PC version was such a resource hog (apparently due to some coding errors) that you needed quite a rig to play it max'd out on a PC. I was able to run with full effects 16XAF/8XAA at 1680x1050, but only because I have a 4400+ X2, 2GB Ram, and at the time 7800GTX SLI.

They could pull a Battlefield 2 and add some higher res textures, but honestly they could do a straight port and it would still be one of the best looking games on PC or 360 to date, so I'm not holding my breath.

Multiplayer would be fantabulous.

who's Day 1???????????

The team who made a shitty port of F.E.A.R.

I hope that demo was just early and not indicative of the final product, but it was a huge huge step down from the PC... the graphics were of Xbox 1 quality.

F.E.A.R was my most anticipated 360 game this year, even ahead of Gears of War, but that all changed with the demo.

FEAR looks like trash, I hope they don't expect $60 for that trash. I'd pay $20 max and I wouldnt pay $1 for a rental. MS needs to step in and tell Devs that they can't publish ports if there going to be that shitty.

It's a shame too because Oblivion and Call of Duty 2 were so amazing graphically... I actually ran them side by side next to a PC (before I got rid of the games on PC, PC couldn't really handle Oblivion that well) and the 360 actually looks pretty decent in comparision.

I was expecting F.E.A.R to look amazing because developers have had awhile to tinker with the system, but the final product just looks so much worse. I remember reading everyone saying the demo was crap and I thought they were just high, but no, it really was pretty bad.

I know it's not going to look exactly like the PC version but this is a travesty, it's like the dev's didn't even bother to try. I'm just hoping it was an early build and the final version looks alot better.

EDIT: Apparently people are saying the demo is a pre E3 build and the final version should look alot better. I just took this off GameFAQ's, so take it for what it's worth.

I hope that is true. I played FEAR on my monitor in 720p and it did not look near as bad as it did on my SDTV (I know it is not fair to compare, but FEAR actually resembled FEAR on the PC when using my monitor to display the graphics). If they include extraction point I might rebuy the game, but it will have to go on sale as I will not put down 60 towards it.

Yeah, it was scheduled for 11/7 along with COD3, GOW, and RS:V. Now RS:V is listed as 11/14, so looks like they're spreading out slightly.

I have a relatively mediocre PC and a nice HDTV and I didn't notice a huge difference between the versions (I only had the demo for each loaded). I haven't played the full version at all. What did impress my a lot in the 360 version were the particle effects and the enemy AI. AI is much more important than graphics IMO. I read a recent hands on that said that the two versions seemed to be graphically identical. I'll see if I can find that. If it's true, I'll be looking for a sale on this game come fall. Gears and Rainbow have higher priority for me due to multi-player options.

I was actually going to pick it up if it had Extraction Point as well, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't include it. The Live multiplayer might be worth it, but it just seems crippling to pay $60 for a year old port that doesn't even include the expansion pack.

Hell yes it is. Its $60 good Cash. I just played 20min multiplayer match and its amazing. I forgot what the match was called but basically one person contols bullet time, you take him out, and you grab the bullet time effect and you control it and everyone has to take you out. Its pretty crazy. Bullet time last for like 5-10seconds at a time and if you have it, you go at normal speed, and everyone around you is slow. Its bad ass. Love the ragdoll physics too. Gonna play some SP in a bit.

The multiplayer is awesome! The levels are well made and the weapons work perfectly, there are no aiming problems like there was for PDZ, the controls are tight and no signs of lag or problems with matchmaking. This is definately a must buy for any FPS fan.

The SP game is creepy, the levels seem pretty long, like Call of Duty 2 but they do have checkpoints throughout the level. They have great atmosphere and scary atmospheric music, it really does draw you deep into the game and scares the shit out of you every now and then, but the firefights in between fill you with adrenaline. The AI is very smart, if you hide from them, they'll hide from you, they duck, dodge, call for backup, throw grenades, and have great aiming. The graphics don't seem too improved from the demo a while back, they did add textures to the game, it doesn't seem as smooth as it used to which is good. Get it for the gameplay by yourself and for play with friends.

I agree with everything you said. A great game and port. Looks better then the demo version. The game itself though seems like its going to be a tad short. But should have some decent replay value. The A.I. is excellent, so everytime you play you basically have a diffrent experience.

I wish they'd make a "For Pussies Only Edition" of the game so I can try it. The levels would have a talking carrot jump out instead of that girl, singing about how you should eat your vegetables and then break into a campfire song as you huddle around in a circle hugging each other talking about how you should say "please" and "thank you". Then after the song, you'd bust out the shotguns again and blow the fucking brains out of the group as they run crying for their mommas.

Good question. After buying the game yesterday with my paypal debit card (AKA my play money), I went to make another purchase, and it was declined. Went to paypals site, and saw i had been charged twice, 2 pending charges at GS.

So I go back to the store, and the the manager and another guy was there (who luckily are nice guys) Manager had to take off, and the other guy started calling home office. He got busy though, so I got stuck holding the phone and talking to a rep. They said they would call me back in 24 hours.

This morning there is a 3rd charge. Now a completed, and 2 pending. I know the pending will eventually expire, but I'm still carrying a negative balance, with eBay stuff that needs to be shipped. :bomb:

So far FEAR cost = :wii:

Anybody happen to know if this will be a region-free game? If so, I'll prolly get it from Play-Asia (when they receive it) since it'll be 20 bucks less. I've been keeping an eye on their site and haven't seen any confirmation yet that F.E.A.R. is region-free. :-k

While the framerate is good, it's not rock steady. Go outside and turn a corner near with a lot of buildings. It will dip below 30.

Now, my one complaint with the single player game- There are periods of quietness where you are wondering around, and then you'll notice health packs. That's a sure sign you're about to run into a pack on enemies. The pacing seems a little predictable. Verse-chorus-verse. I hope it changes later in the game, I'm on the fourth chapter.

Also while the AI will flank you; it almost always better to maintain a single position with you back to the wall and let them come to you. Seeking them out leads to a loss of health.

I just don't like the lack of hit detection. One second my health is at the max, the next second, i'm down to 10. Oh well, i'll prob. shelf it when GOW and COD 3 arrive next week.

FEAR Files coming this Fall

Vivendi today announced a new expansion pack for the Xbox 360 version of Fear, to be called F.E.A.R. Files. It includes the new F.E.A.R. Perseus Mandate campaign (to be released on PC), where you'll be able to play through the original game from other peoples eyes - a different perspective of what happened. Included is also Extraction Point, the already released PC expansion. No Playstation 3 version was mentioned, release this fall, and you can find the first images inside.

From teamxbox.com

While there aren’t a lot of details about F.E.A.R. Files we can give you at this point, the interesting note that Vivendi did pass along was that the game will come on two discs, and because it’s a bundle that is essentially being considered two games in one, it will be the first Xbox 360 game box to offer 2000 achievement points in a single retail package.

No word of weather it will be available as DLC as well...but I'm thinking about trading my copy in now, and picking it up again later.

No word of weather it will be available as DLC as well...but I'm thinking about trading my copy in now, and picking it up again later.Look, it's the Tomb Raider Anniversary scenario all over again.

Bethesda said it time and time again that they wouldn't do a physical media version of Shivering Isles, and look, here it is coming in September.

The folks behind Tomb Raider Anniversary haven't commented on it, save a half-comment about TRL + TRA being bundled together in one package. Hopefully, they'll make a stand-alone release for TRA as well, instead of just DLCing it.

I hope the folks behind F.E.A.R. do the same thing as well, and not just make F.E.A.R. + F.E.A.R. Files as a single retail package. We don't need another COD2/COD3/M: UA scenario with the GOTY and Gold Editions about.

Ecosphere - lush vegetation provides plenty of hiding places for sniping
Hotel - a dilapidated building
Sewars - don't get lost in these twisting tunnels

Going to download these when I get home. Hopefully they are up.

Doesn't play at all like condemned. FEAR is a straight up shooter, you always have guns and lots of ammo. Only thing it has in common with Condemned is a creepy athmosphere and a first person perspective.

I prefer FEAR slightly as the slow pace and melee combat in Condemned are getting old for me (and I'm only a bit past half way through the 1st one).
