Mine was 73, but I have to say that it misheard the way I said Yellow a couple of times.

But after playing it again I had it down to 35, so I guess all is well.

I'm pretty impressed with the way it reads what you write..I don't have the best handwriting..

I think I heard the lowest it could be is like 21 or 22, but does anybody know what the highest (i.e. the worst) your brain age can be? I just want to know how embarrassed I should be once I get my DS Lite + Brain Age and score in the 80s.

Got 54 on the initial test, then 39.

I blame my stupidity for not realizing I had to dot my 'i's in the word memory. Took over a minute for that and then I had forgotten most of the other words :P

go back to the ps2 board and spend your $20 on the new GTA. That sounds derivative and violent enough to satisfy your short attention span.

My brain age was 60 the first day i got it, the second day down to 44.. I really like this game, good concept of short play sessions over a long period of time. I only play it for at most a half hour, if i get into the sudoku puzzles.

Does anyone else think this game will flop in america, because americans don't care to learn and would rather just play some rap/urban game on the PSP.. I hate popular culture.

This would be the case unless they can actually expand the market to non-gamers like in Japan. Of course I dont expect that to happen here in America.

People who own it should be showing it to everyone they know.

My mom played it for a bit when i was home for easter, and i happened to catch her telling my grandmother about it the next day, maybe i've started it all now.. lol.

I have enough dissapointment in the intelligence and patience level of the general american to believe this will never succeed here. I do enjoy it though. I'm just afraid it doesn't have enough "GRILLZ" to hold most people's attention.

Yeah and the clerks at EBgames were all like "did you play the demo? It is so fun!" (this was after I told them I'm here to pick up my pre-order) Then when one of them rang it up he was shocked it was $19.99 and said he might have to pick it up now. I have a feeling from both the number of replys and the fact that Brain Age demos are out and about that it will do quite nicely.

My brain age ranges from 20-25, depending on what metrics I get (or use - hold down the select key while doing the brain age check). However if I have one of the vocal ones, the age goes up dramatically.

I got my copy at GDC, and it has only left my system briefly for Tetris DS and Rub Rabbits.

after seeing all the places that coverage/advertisements for this are showing up, I'm starting to believe it could work. The Discovery Channel had a short segment on it, NPR did that thing and there are plenty of others.

Edit: Discovery ad - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGMOeYCa_jw

A simple ad next to the in-print Sudoku would probably do wonders. Its strange seeing Nintendo properly advertise something.

I just got the game and did the exercises for today... I got a 35 which isn't bad. Only thin that frustrated me was that it kept thinking my 6's were 0's... But I figured out how to fix it (you have you do more of a diagonal 6 than a straight 6) so it should be fine from now on.

I guess I enunciate alright because I didn't have any trouble w/ 'blue'

botticus
04-19-2006, 11:57 PM
I haven't had any problem at all with the voice recognition. Some of my letters are off occasionally, but at least with the word memory it corrects itself (i.e. the word was 'gong', but it interpreted the first 'g' as an 's'. Once I had written all four letters, it changed the 's' to 'g').

I'm horrible with my times tables now, so out of practice. Lots of the 8s and 9s are killing me. But, I managed to lower my brain age to 26 from 54, so I feel better about myself.

That low-to-high game is hard as hell, but good.

I got a 29 on my first try and then I got frustrated on my second try because the DS just wouldn't recognize it when I say "blue". On the words, I struggled with the system recognizing what I was writing and I ran out of time way before I had finished writing down all the words I remembered. I hope it works, but I just have a hard time imagining parents and other "un-hip" adults in the U.S. playing video games. It would be a hell of an achievement if they could pull it off.

Anyway, I bought Brain Age today and after trying it out on my FUCKING AWESOME WONDERFUL AMAZING ENAMEL NAVY DS LITE which also arrived today, I recieved a score of 44. It had trouble recognizing when I said "blue" and "red," as well as some numbers I wrote. Annoying, but it was only $20 and the sudoku kicks ass. I had never played sudoku before and I'm way addicted now.

My brain Today is 53. Compared to my 72 yesterday I'm doing well :) I found the color game is easier when you focus on something past the DS so when you see the word pop up all you see if the color and not the words. I'm not sure if you can do that but when I see the word "Black" and its "Red" in color I start to laugh a little and it screws with my time.

Haha, yeah, I discovered that trick, but it kinda defeats the purpose of the test so I've stopped doing it. Regardless I start to read the word almost half the time, but usually stop myself before I fully speak the first letter. Damn Stroop test. Luckily I kicked ass on the word memory to make up for it.

Those Sudoku penalties are harsh... I've never played it before till Brain Age, so I had no clue what I was really supposed to be doing initially. Took me ten minutes to do the first puzzle, but I had 60 minutes in penalties

Not sure. It has problems with my "black" but if I say it carefully, it works fine. It recognizes all of my handwriting so far though which is crazy since I have some pretty bad chicken scratch. My initial brain age was 63 (yikes!).

After I finished all the training for the day, my wife leaned over and said, "my turn!" This, besides a brief stint with Animal Crossing, is the first DS game she has played.

If Nintendo plays their cards right, this could be huge.

BTW, I bought it at Gamestop yesterday and the way the game is being displayed is interesting. At GS, all of the Brain Age games were in cardboard displays right on the sales counter almost like a impulse buy kind of item at a grocery store. I actually think that is a good idea.

banpeikun
04-20-2006, 01:33 PM
what do you mean make a store? like imagine a store that sells all the things?

i think the best way to do it is to try to associate the words together into a kind of thought or sentence or idea. then it's easy to chain them together. like my third column was grin, damp, nine, body, girl, tall, rage, hold.

the dallas mavs have a guy called dampier, so i think of him grinning, then i think of a nine ball except it's nine body (doesn't make sense but that probably makes me remember it more), and then a tall girl who maybe like a girlfriend or something. she makes him mad (rage) but he also cares for her (hold). i also read it out loud constantly while my 2 minutes are counting down. so in the end i can remember grin, damp, nine, body, girl, tall, rage, hold.

i don't have as much time to study the last column so i try to be saying those words when the time runs out so i can fill them in as soon as the 3:00 starts. then i go back and do the first three columns which i (hopefully) can remember with the neumonics. i got stuck for a while because i couldn't remember a single word from the second column, but then it came back to me.

i think it's a pretty good method. i haven't unlocked the game yet so i've only played it twice. my first time this method got me 25.

Very impressive! I absolutely suck at that portion. I tried alphabetizing, only memorizing certain ones, and making up sentences or phrases -- few have worked.

How is everyone at Low to High? That seems to be my strongest event outside of calculations.

Maybe we should start a Brain Age high score thread, where we can all post our high scores in each game and update as we improve -- sort of like the Complete Games Tab 2006 that I update often.

If Nintendo continues to come out with more of these types of game, I think it will cause all of them to do better. As it is now, I don't know how many people are going to want to spend $130 on a DS when there might only be one or two titles available to them.

I have a feeling the Japanese find handheld gaming hipper than we do, too... fancypants cell phones and ipods are hip here, but I don't think that extends ot handheld gaming...

I dunno... I hope it goes over well. I love stuff like this :D i opened my copy today finally, and my first try was 44... bah! Looking forward to see if I can get it down a lot lower. I think the math portions will be particularly helpful for me. I don't calculate very quickly. The Sudoku is fun, too... I hadn't tried it before now.

Does anybody know exactly what is entailed in unlocking all the different exercises? I've only unlocked low/high so far, and I've no idea what I did to unlock it!

I also like the select tip where you can choose which three things to be tested on.
