Mielke liked KUF: CoD though. So it's not supposed to be much of an insult.

Oh what? Wow. He's lost all credibility for me then when it comes to dungeon-crawling, loot collecting games.

That's a bit of a stretch though, as his latest blog post (http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=8845946&publicUserId=4549175) lists a bunch of loot-centered games that are his favorites in that subgenre and it's not on there at all. His post (http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=8589862&publicUserId=4549175) on why he couldn't put Circle Under Fire down isn't very glowing, especially when he agrees with a D- review for that game.

Didn't see those. I remembered this article: (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3167566)

Let's just be honest: Like most reviewers, we didn't really enjoy Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom. In his review of the game, 1UP copy editor Andrew Fitch called the game "the perfect way to sabotage the Kingdom Under Fire series."

But then something strange happened. 1UP's editor-in-chief of videogames, James Mielke, got really into the game. He played it obsessively, quickly moving past the faults that so many saw, and discovered an addictive Diablo II-style lootfest that he couldn't get enough of. Fascinated by his fascination, Mielke got in touch with Kingdom Under Fire's game director, Henry Lee, to discuss how he found such an enthralling experience within a game that so many people were quick to ignore.

And quotes like:

Kingdom Under Fire: Circle Of Doom might be one of the best games to successfully combine the addictive Diablo II-style dungeon hack-n-slash qualities with item (loot) collecting around.

He never says he likes it, though, just that he obsessed over it. The fact that he didn't bring it up in his post on his newest blog post on the subject says a lot about that to me.

I'd generally assume that becoming obsessed with a game generally means there's something enjoyable about the game to become obsessed with. I can't imagine he sat there playing for hours playing the game thinking 'Man I hate this game! I'll stop playing it, just after one more level'.

I think given the expectations, internet message board drama, etc, it will be impossible to find a truly objective review of the game.

Personally, I enjoyed the demo and plan on picking up the game and judging for myself. I only expect the game to be a dungeon hack with a combat system that's more fun than the usual dungeon hack of pressing the attack button over and over until enemies are dead.

I purchased this game around 10 am this morning at Gamestop, I was a little skeptical at first due to reviews bein less then favorible. After 3 hours of game time, I have to say I'm impress with the deep character advancement, great loot system, story has me on my toes. As for the camera its actually pretty good once you choosee the right camera mode for your style (I prefer ISO, pulled back camera view).

Bottomline if you go in on this game looking for a good action/RPG, and love some loot and wouldent mind having something in your 360 until Diablo III comes out, then you will not be dissapointed. I have no clue how one reviewer said KUF: Circle of Doom was better (that game was terrible, even for a loot fanatic).

If you guys have any questions, just shoot, and I will try to answer them to the best of my knowledge

Sometimes bad games can be oddly compelling, compelling enough that you have to keep playing out of principle. These are a few of his quotes about the game from his blog post:

For the record, I completely agree with Andrew Fitch's review (http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3165326&sec=REVIEWS), and yet this is one of those crap games that I keep on playing. Kind of like Bullet Witch (http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3158571), but different.
The list of FAIL that Circle of Doom conjures up is going to be so massive that by the time I'm done, you too will wonder why on Earth I'm playing it after acknowledging its faults, but bear with me.
Still, the lure of even better stuff (the best stuff usually drops in the infrequent boss fights) and harder difficulty levels has me enduring what must be one of the most unfinished games of all time. A simple dungeon crawler can and should be easy enough to get right, and yet so few of them do

I can see that point. There have been some pretty bad games that I've played over and over again, though generally it was because the game did something different enough from other games that I kept coming back to it even if it did everything else wrong.

I've been going back and forth. At first I was unimpressed with the controls and camera. I got used to both and was enjoying myself....until the 2nd boss fight. I just finished it minutes ago. I won't go into any spoilers but my god it is the most irritating boss fight I can remember. I'm sure I have had a worse boss fight in some game in the past....but if it exists I've blocked it from my mind. Also it has nothing to do with difficulty since the way the death system is, the game seems to have none.

Ice Forest is the longest fucking level in video game history, with the most redundant fucking boss. Also, the fact that I was playing co-op with someone and they couldn't even see the boss or ride the elevator up to help me with the boss is madness.

All bitching aside, this game is terribly addicting (especially after getting 325 achievement points in one sit down).

And it seems that the last two levels will be even longer than the Ice Forest because it has 5 checkpoints instead of 4 :|

I hate the second level. I though it was 5 and the rest were 3 or 4. It just felt like it would never end when the first one went buy so fast. I'm at 40% compleate in the game already though. So I dont see how much longer the last 2 or 3 levels can be.

OMHH, I agree with K.P.

:)

I'm about 5 or 6 hours into the game and I'm having a blast...just about half way through the 2nd area, I think....

Love the loot, love the combat...the camera goes wonky every blue moon but rarely in combat. The only "frustrating" thing I've found is that I'm so USED to being able to spin the camera, I occasionally still try to do it with the right stick. :)

The story, so far, is not bad. I think that you get a LOT more from actually stopping to listen to some NPC conversations (in town, especially) than you do from just blowing through the areas to get to the next cutscene. I'm a mythology "nut", of all kinds, and the Norse mythology is some of my favorite. That might be why I enjoy their take, so far.

The loot is varied, and even the "trash" can be somewhat useful (the exp % boost items outweigh their armor/damage value, sometimes). It all looks cool, even mismatched, and the full sets are bad ass.

The combat is visceral. It can get repetetive if you let it (the juggle mechanic can get overused, but it doesn't have to), but even when repetetive, it's FUN. I actually enjoy the slide mechanic and the different techniques for different enemy types (dark elves, polarity enemies, etc). And the "canon fodder" is LOTS of fun to just bash apart.

The graphics are stunning....I don't care if the character models aren't A+ quality, they do their job and get their point across. The backgrounds are lush. The framerate is steady and I haven't had a single "stutter" yet.

The audio is likewise awesome. Hearing the positional sound (Dolby Digital is almost necessary with the game) and the neat little sound effects (birds in Cyberspace??!!) really show polish. The base shakes my freaking house, which is always cool (though I found that, after the kids are in bed....best to drop my reciever into "night time" mode...otherwise I shake them out of their beds!).

Like KF, I see the "ugly" in the game. The interface is a bit of a pain. Two to three layers of menus to assign skill points...multiple layers to deal with equipment (especially salvage)...all that would need tweaking in a future title. It's not perfect, I'll grant you. But it's fun. And that's WITHOUT having delved into coop yet (something I'll try this weekend), which sounds like it might be even MORE fun than the single player game.

So, anyone scared off by the reviews...I'd say give it a shot. It's not NEARLY the abortion that many of the review sites are making it out to be. Does it llive up to the hype? Maybe not. But it's a good Action RPG, and does enough right to be worth a look.

Hmmm.

I am, that's for sure.

This seems to be one of those times when the reviewers might not speak for the masses.

It's not that I disagree with a whole lot of the context of the reviews. They all bring up some valid points.

But for me, the FUN factor (which, after all, is what it's all about, right?) far outweighs the small (and sometimes not so small) objections the reviewers have.

I'd give the game a solid 7.5 out of 10, and that's without having played coop. Coop could bring that score up just a tad....though from reading about some of the glitches, it could also bring it down just a tad.

I really dont understand some of the bad reviews some of the reviews are giving Too Human. yes i agree the game has some problems but its just the first game and its not like most of the problems cant be fixed with a patch or two. the games has been scrutinized for a number of years.. put under the microscope and what not.. the only problem I have with the game is they made the game heavily multiplayer friendly... but then, probably for some programming reasons took out everything but the coop.. doesn't kill the game, but it would be better if you could show off your loot to more than 1 friend at a time

This game rocks I love the loot getting and the achivements are easy enough. I see myself playing to at least get teh 1000/1000 and probally cooping a couple times. I don't understand why everyone hates the game elsewhere. It serves my purpose of not having MUA2 or some other game like it. Gets at least a 8-9 out of 10 sure the camera sucks but after u get used to it its not that bad especially since u hit LB to center the camera where your looking. Def worth my monies =)

Yea, I picked this up yesterday from TrU using the B1G1 and 20% off coupons and I have been really happy with the game so far. I have always liked 'loot' games and enjoyed the demo they had released so I was planning on picking this up regardless of what the 'reviews' said. After a decent amount of CAGs vouched for it there was no question I was getting it on my way home from work yesterday.

I sat down to play for 30 min before I went to bed and ended up putting in 2+ hours! Only bummer I had so far was the demo was just the 1st part of the first level of the game so it felt like I had been there before, but I still enjoyed it.

Nice one, Gerstman threw me a shout out there by breaking out my CAG name "GLOCK GLOCK".

Someone posted it in here or in another thread, but with all the hype and all of Dyack's antics on neoGaf and wherever else, I'm not sure you will find an unbiased review of this game. You really just have to try out the demo. If you like that, you will enjoy the game.

Actually in a way, could Dyack have planned it this way? The game had been in development for very long and there was already alot of criticizm going around even before release. Maybe he just decided to use the publicity for what it it worth and let the game speak for itself with consumers. We have seen Microsoft take a pretty half-assed attempt at supporting some games that they didn't expect to get reviewed well or sell well so possibly Dyack decided any publicity was good, especially if MS wasn't going to put alot of effort behind it.

Interesting to see people enjoying this game because I was very unimpressed with the demo (and I've loved other games that got hammered in reviews but had decent gameplay like Saints Row, Crackdown and Two Worlds).

I love loot games (so I really really wanted to like this game) but I really don't see how this is worth $50. Is it really more fun to play this than to pick up a loot game you already own? I just started playing Titan Quest again and it completely squashed any desire at all I had to play Too Human. I also imagine I would also have more fun playing Diablo II.

I picked it up and I'm enjoying it as well. For me it is sort of like how Mass Effect and Assasin's Creed had issues; Mass Effect with it's inventory system, clumsy MAKO controls, elevator loading times, and texture pop-in and Assassin's Creed with the repetitive nature of it's missions and some odd gameplay mechanics. I enjoyed both of those games even with the assorted issues they had and both of those games have the potential for fantastic sequels.

Too Human is sort of the same for me. It has issues that are occasionally frustrating or annoying, but it's still a lot of fun. Especially for a dungeon hack. The combat in Too Human, at least for me, is far more satisfying than the combat in other dungeon hack games.

The combat in Too Human, at least for me, is far more satisfying than the combat in other dungeon hack games.

that is a great point.. what the problem is with Too Human is that there aren't the graphics of an Assassin's Creed or Mass Effect to hypnotize reviewers from seeing those game flaws...

dmaul1114
08-21-2008, 02:58 PM
That is probably a fair point. I just could get past the flaws in Too Human since I'm not big into dungeon crawls. Though I would still say the flaws were more crippling in Too Human than in Mass Effect (I didn't play Assassin's Creed). The flaws in Mass Effect were more peripheral than having a crappy camera and boring, repetitive, limited combat system as in Too Human IMO. I can overlook popup, load times etc., but I have a harder time with a bad camera system and combat I don't enjoy. Of course, other's may be more annoyed by ME's flaws so it's subjective.

But glad some people are enjoying it!

This I have to agree, it happen to me, When first playing Two Worlds, I heard how horrible it is, but come friday I tried it out and low and behold I sat their playing the whole weekend (20 hours+) 700 worth of achievments, and I still dont like the game but it had me by the balls and I dont know what was keeping me their......

I bought Two Worlds a couple of weeks ago for $15 and have been putting tons of hours into it. If you can ignore the horrible voice acting/script if actually a diablo style loot collecting game. If your into WRPG's and Diablo I would recommend it on the cheap.

This game is too freaking short... and its just a mass effect.. with co op.

The loot part is somewhat cool, but the menu to change it is a pain.. crafting the elite armor set takes a while too.

And its going to take people a WHILE to get 1 million in bounty.. Im 3/4 done and I only have near 120,000 loot.

Overall, huge disappointment.

Expect a giant price drop within a month..

I dont think theyre supposed to.. but they can kill sometimes. I juggled an enemy into the air and then the CPU destroyed it, unlocking the achievement for it..

I finished the Ice Forest and I'm wondering if my experience with the boss was unique or not. I got to the final area and went up the elevator to the path it took me with one barrier to take down before attacking the five pods, but I died and it seemed to keep starting me over instead of letting me at least face the boss with everything in place from before I died. When restarting that same path, once there were two barriers and the five pods and another time I still had to take down the barrier, but the pods seemed to have retained the damage I had inflicted before I died. The final time after I died there was no barrier and just three pods remaining, which left me with enough health to defeat the robots and move to the next floor. Basically, did the floor you were taken from, if you died a few times, ever remain in the shape you had left it or did it reset every time? It just seemed odd from what I've seen happen when I die mid-battle.

Yes, it should remain the same. You cant reactivate ruins youve already been to in the same runthru of a level, so bosses stay the same.

You think the squad you have is worthless you should wait till level 3. Not as bad as the squad at times but others it is no point in haveing him.

Also tip for the 3rd boss

Use two guns and fire both at the same time. Run around and use the dodge button to get around. Kill the smaller ones if they get to close. I tried this at first with a lazer two handed gun I had. Took forever and I died 4 or 5 times. Once I changed guns it took me no time at all. Also he will punch the ground when he starts just dodge out of the way and keep shooting.

EDIT: I should say this was done with the champion. So if you played another class I cant say that this might work due to not knowing how they play.

I don't think I get what the charms are all about. I've completed a few, collected and inserted the runes, and completed the attached quest, so what happens after that?

Now im not sure but i know you put completed lvl one charms into lvl two charms but i havent completed a level three one yet so im not sure what to do after that.

Here is what it says on mycheats: Runes & Charms: These small items can be attached to your character for small, extra boosts in strength. Charms are more situational upgrades that have little miniature quests/achievements attached. Fill the quest's requirements (usually killing a certain number of enemies a certain way) and you can get the Charm's bonus, which is usually a reward of equipment. Later, you'll pick up Charms of a higher level that will usually need a few weaker Charms to fully grow. It's best to equip Charms ASAP and work towards building them up early and often. Runes are inserted in equipment with empty Rune slots (they will say as much in their stats). The equipment is labeled with funny names, but those names are from their inherent Runes. Collecting unattached Runes like "Blight," "Plasma," "The Maiden," and so on will add small boosts in their associated stats, such as increased armor strength from "The Maiden." If you find yourself relying on a certain weapon or piece of armor that just happens to have a Rune slot, it won't hurt to slot in an extra Rune. Runes can also affect the items' colors when attached, further customizing your character's look.

seanr1221

It's my understanding, frisky, that charms will work once you complete their tasks.

Also from what the guid says you only get some skills if your human? I was thinking about for the Commando going Cybernetic however from what the guid shows I wong get Helm Reddener. It is the second skill at the top you get. Anyone know what class would be better to go cybernetic?

Basically I run in, get off a few quick attacks (I'm a cyborg, so I'm slower but stronger), roll to the side, then dash in again. I can take down a troll in 2 hits, and those spider dark elves in 3. Since I put on dual swords I haven't had too much trouble.

Not sure who I'll create next. But are there certain weapons that work better for certain classes?

Insane weapons you can get once you hit level 50..

Beat this last night. About 12 hours, level 29. Garm is a cheap bitch. :bomb: I didn't really see the lack of story that a lot of reviews were complaining about. There really was a nice progression of characters and events that built up to all the craziness. And the final shot of Loki and the Giant!!! has me utterly hyped for part two.

Also, I think some of the achievements are buggy. There are secret ones for clearing each level without dying. I just managed that on a post-game playthrough of hall of heroes, and I didn't get the achievement...

Anyway, I'm up for coop now pretty much any night or weekend (generally not too late, as I now work at 8am every weekday). I've only got a lvl 30 Berzerker so far, but I'd like to play around with the other classes. So if anyone wanted to do coop for new characters, I'd be up for that. Or existing characters.

I'd have to say the Defender has been my favorite so far, with the Commando a very close second. How does leveling with characters that differ greatly in levels work? When I started playing with Music in coop I had played for around an hour and a half to two hours solo and had gotten to level 10 already and he was a 1 and by the time I hit level 12 he was level 10, I think. This would be useful for speeding up the jack of all trades achievement.

The more to the right, you should choose Cyborg.

To get the one for not dying you have to beat the level and not stop. So you can't save it or just shut the system down.

Started at the beginning, didn't leave, didn't save and quit, didn't stop.

Oh well. I'll get 'em eventually.

Did you use the warp/teleport to feature to jump to 1-1 or whatever or did you do it through the natural story progression?

FriskyTanuki

Thanks. I read a bit more of the MyCheats guide and it doesn't really explain much about the armor or weapon you're supposed to get from completed charms, so I can't tell which ones it gave me.

Just got to level 9 with my bio-engineer and picked cyborg. Don't know why but out of the 3 that I have played to atleast level 10 all seem the same. Not much really seems different from one to one other then the bio-engineer with the healing. Think I'm going to play all to level 10 and get my champion to level 50 seeing how it is at 26 already and get what achievements I can and then as of now I might go with the bio-engineer.

I got online and started to play but the other player was a level 36 when I'm at level 2 and all they did was run around the city. We never even got on the ship to go to the level. I ended up just exiting and playing solo. So if anyone wants to add me to their friends list and group some time I would like that. GT is shazo.

One thing to note is that there are wells within the Great Tree in Aesir. The only ones I believe I forget to activate with my Berzerker were the last two (after the Serpent and after Helheim, but before you go to the feasting hall for the last cinematic) and I didn't get the well achievement, so those probably count. Or I missed some in a stage.

Don't know what the best human character is, but a human berzerker is quite fun. A little lacking in defense, yeah, but the attack speed as the combo meter goes up is insane. Just don't get surrounded by a mob and have a good rifle/fierce attacks for polarity bastards and you should be fine.

The Commando and Champion both felt like I was playing the same thing. Infact all but the Berzerker felt some what the same. The Berzerker just felt faster. However the Commando and Champion felt more so then the others felt some what different but not much. Anyway what classes would be better for cyborg and human? Someone said Cyborg for Bio Engineer already. I would think Cyborg would also fit the Commando. Human seeing how the Berzerker is more combo based would fit it. What about Defender and Champion?

I went into the Ice Forest and got my ass handed to me in just the first 10 min. I probably died 4 times in that time period. My defense seems to really suck. Should I go back to the Hall of Heroes? Is there even a way to do that?

EDIT: I'm also starting to really like the Bio Engineer class. The skill that makes it so your enemies attack eachother works more then I thought it would and I only have 5 points into it. It is funny to see people online keep trying to kill them if they are working for you becaue they don't die. Now if only they would do more then just stand there. Some times they attack the group others just stand in the way.

I have to post this as i just finished a 12.5 hour run through Too Human.

I followed the game on neogaf and bought into the hype it would suck. I tried the demo and i hated it at first, but then by the end of the demo when i had more weapons and items, it got kinda fun. I got the game last night and decided to give it a shot. I put the controller down 12.5 hours later, went through the entire thing in one strait shot and got 590 of the 1000 achievements with a single run through.

I really loved it, the graphics reminded me of Resistance so many times since it has a large scope for the levels, and although the story was ridiculous at first, it got better as it went on, and the voice acting was fantastic. Ive never played a loot game before but this one was really fun. Sometimes the graphics were just outright amazing, sometimes it looked really bad (like n64 textures).

Its more good then bad tho. Glad i gave it a shot and i recommend it to anyone who actually liked the demo, its just more of the same and way funner. It is repetitious but i never once felt like it got old, i also should note that it is only 4 levels long, but 4 super long levels. They better make a sequel, i loved how they ended the game.

+ graphic is amazning. A lot better than Mass Effect.
+Story is interesting so far.

-So far I been doing the same thing over and over. A bit repeative.
-the dying animation took too long
-Control isnt as bad as I thought, and I hated the PS2 games that uses the right stiick to attack. Would prefer the tranditional control.
-The camera is just bad.

is anyone else game freezing up??

I had some lockups that appeared to be Too Human, but then it happened to me on dashboard and playing Bankshot Billiards, so I scoured the forums for some info (since I didn't get a Red Ring on the lockup and it was particularly annoying, because it was happening right when the system would be up for 4 or 5 minutes). My experience was the game would lock up in the Aesir teleport menu, sometimes in the equipment menu (1 lockup each), but usually played fine otherwise.

I came across a "fix" for the hard drive's possible corruption as a culprit in lockups. Go to the memory section of the dashboard, select the drive, (get into the "rename/format" section, IIRC) and hit the following sequence on the controller:

Y (to select the drive), X, X, LB, RB, X

It should bring up a question on the blade "Do you want to perform system maintenance?" (or words to that effect). Say yes and it'll gronk for a few minutes. But after that, I've not had a single lockup in almost a week on my Elite. (Which I attributed to possibly being destined for RRoD.)

YMMV, but it's worth a shot. Joystiq says it clears out all software updates, but I didn't experience that at all. Just a cache flush. :)

Others might disagree, but imo, it gets only worse. I loved the demo. I like the controls, have no problem with the camera, and if you know about Norse mythology the story is pretty cool.

But the game balance sucks. Once you start leveling up enemies will scale and then you'll get enemies who attack with status effects, some of these effects cause damage over time and since health is a random drop it leads to a lot of unnessicary deaths and watching the unskippable death animation. There is at least one boss battle towards the end that is just awful. Expect to die a lot from frustrating situations, and having to sit through the animation.

My favorite part of the game was the first level, which is 25% of the game and in the demo. After that it just goes downhill.

I'm guessing it is just a bug in the game. Mine slows down alot in the later levels and at times the controller does not even work in game. I can press the guid button and that is it. It even does it with fully charged batteries. If this game had more to do for multiplayer and got better reviews then it did I would expect to see a patch soon to fix all this. However as of now I don't. If they were to add a few more levels and make them for a 4 player co-op this game would be great.

Also I almost beat level 2 with out dieing. I had only one death with my BE and had the last attack actually done damage I would have not died. I was pissed. The BE seems to really get better the closer to 50 I get. I'm wondering now how good it will be if I ever get a full set of the level 50 cyborg gear for it.

The quests on the two I don't want are Kill 120 Trolls and Collect 400 Blueprints (this one also has the poison puddles). If anyone wants one, I'm looking for a couple of tier 1 and 2 charms, don't care if they're complete or not.

So, I'd be wary of freezes. I have 5 level 3 (the red ones for the ach) charms.. they range from lightning to poison to knock down in terms of what they do

Or I have elite weapons for every class (not specific).

Or im willing to pay 2 million a piece for the armor.

70 something.

60 ish for 995/100, the other 10 was spent trying to find the epic armor.

The loot drop perecentage bonus doesnt improve epic armor, just loot in general, which blows.

I found the most dropped red items were in level 1-3, the well before the boss, theres 4 nodes there that dropped almost everytime either a red charm, rune, or epic piece.

I couldnt find any cybernetic commandos that wanted to try, I found one but he had what I already had.

If you find someone who has what you need its a lot easier -_-V

I've got the sword (found at store), helm (dropped from Grendel) and boots (dropped from Hel) for my cybernetic defender so far, and I've finished two epic charms.

Any bioengineers want an epic rune that maxes out the +10% regeneration by itself? Let me know.

Cybernetic. My commando was able to solo in co op both level 2/3/4. It was a joke lol.

All you need is your armor to around 2200 and find yourself a plasma weapon.. its easy after that. Just really boring.

Partner up with a defender or a berserker to take care of the polarity trolls and its fairly simple.

no cybernetic commandos epic weapon is a plasma rifle. You go right side of the tree, then left side of the second tree.

Go to the toohuman.net forums or gamefaqs or xbox and try posting and trading with someone.

The epic plasma rifle is awesome, but I never found anyone who had one when I was searching for it. I think I found mine from hod, but then again, YMMV @_@

You can set the drops up 3 or 4 different ways when you create the game. The mobs are around the level of the highest person playing or the level of the person that made the game online I'm not sure what one. Loot drops are not that great seeing how when I play 90% of the time I end up getting Human only gear if I'm playing as a Cyborg or Cyborg only gear if playing as a Human. Still a fun game to play online as long as you get someone that does not lag or kick you out. Most the time I run into people I think just looking for high end gear and get kicked from the game with in a short amount of time after I log into it.

Does it just match you up with whoever, or will it try to find someone in your level range? I want to play online but I'm wondering if I should finish the game first so that I'll be higher level. I'm currently about to go into act 3.

You can host your own game and boot people that are too high or too low level wise.

I usually just set my own game up and if someone to low comes in that is on them if they get killed alot. You can also let it just put you in a game but I can't remember if you are say a level 2 if it will put you in a game that someone else is a level 30 or so or not. I want to say that it some times will. You can also search for games and just pick the one you want. If I don't make my own that is what i do.

EDIT: Also you being on act 3 has nothing to do with online. You pick the level you want and when you go back to single player you will pick up where you left off before the multiplayer.

At first, I didn't think 140k was measly. Now I find it was 160k, and that was only 10 days. (http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/09/12/too-human-cracks-npd-top-10/) Which makes it even less measly.

Microsoft sent me a survey to complete on this game yesterday. It was a pretty good one, asksing about what my impressions are of the camera, character classes, combat, story and weapons. Since I'm playing it co-op, I gave the story low marks just because the bastards took out the cutscenes.

Its better with no cutscenes shoot sometimes ill play coop and put 1 private slot so i can just breeze through the game. Its taking me forever to find my 2pid epic armor for the achivement I only got 3 pieces so far and im a human/defender ill be happy once i get the other achivements which are taking forever

Which class would be the easiest to start out with? I can't figure it out from the descriptions. I tried playing all 5 briefly, and the bio engineer seems really, really wimpy, and the health regeneration really slow, so I guess he's out.

So...which is the simplest and easiest to start with? I'm seen some things claim bezerker, some champion, and some commando. Until I read those, I thought I'd try a defender, but no guides I've read through have recommended that class.

Any thoughts?

EDIT: I won't be playing this multiplayer as I don't have Gold, so this class would just be needed for a single player game.

And just from the intro and everything the story seems more interesting than I thought from all the terrible reviews (of course I'd EXPECT it to be good given the developer, had I not read the reviews...)

Berzerker and Champion do well as single player campaigns.

Also the terrible reviews kindof misled me on this game as well. I was expecting something similar to a movie tie in game but got a fun dungeon crawler. It's a flawed gem.

Cool, I guess I'll try a bezerker, as the champion air combo stuff sounds more complex than I want to mess with.

Thanks for the help!

And so far it sure looks good (and seems to control okay) for a "bad" game. I mean this is Silicon Knights! I sure hope they don't go under. I mean I'm sad for them, but I don't care about Factor 5 or companies like that as they've never made a game I like...but Eternal Darkness alone is...just phenomenal.

Air combos aren't hard at all, you'll probably be spending most of your time doing them anyway. Berzerker gets tough as you get further in because of the damage you can take.

12-25-2008, 05:46 PM

Trust me, its easier to kill enemies if you're in the air because they won't be hitting you. Nothing really is easy in this game as you get to the later levels. They're long and hard.

Wolfpup
12-25-2008, 05:57 PM
But Champion's my best bet for it to be as easy as possible? Darn...this sounds bad, as it'll probably be another game I invest a bunch of time in and then can't finish :(

(One FAQ did mention the Bezerker as best for beginners though, and another either that or the...err...one who shoots stuff, can't recall his name...one FAQ says he can dish out the most damage in the late game and most easily blow through it).

Dang, I need to get off my 'puter and go play already, but I just can't decide which class!

Wolfpup
12-25-2008, 06:10 PM
AAAAAHHH!!!! I'm totally confused. Now I found another thing saying the Defender is by far the most powerful class, and that you can't die unless you do something seriously wrong. *sigh* I have no idea now.

odintal
12-25-2008, 06:15 PM
i'm only into act 2 with my defender so i can't help you out much there. they don't die nearly as often as others (which keeps that ridiculous death animation away) but he's just not as much fun as the others.

always felt like i was a brick house swinging a rubber chicken.
i'm more for being the glass cannon myself but thats just my playstyle.

mike.m
12-26-2008, 01:51 AM
Unless someone helps you, its a given that you'll likely die a lot from the third level or so and on. Besides, berzerkers have a skill tree that is ideal for air juggles if i remember right. Defenders are okay, I got kinda bored with it not really being an offensive powerhouse.

Wolfpup
12-26-2008, 02:06 AM
I ended up taking a Commando. I don't really know why.

I've died a few times while finishing the first level. So far the game's still pretty fun, other than it doesn't always target where I want. I have no idea...I GUESS I really finished the first dungeon, but it seemed short-that's a GOOD thing to me. I mean it didn't drag on forever, but I heard like they were super long or something.

Oh, another bad thing is I guess I can miss weapon drops and stuff if I kill guys too far away and they disappear.

If nothing else, I like it a lot more so far than those spastic Raven/Marvel dungeon crawls, which get much better reviews for some reason.

Wolfpup
12-26-2008, 03:43 AM
DOH! Well I'm on the second level, and getting my but kicked left and right with my Commando. Tons if not all the enemies are basically immune to my ranged attacks, and I get slaughtered in literally maybe 10-30 seconds when I go hand to hand, as I have to.

I'm either doing something really wrong, or this isn't working well with this Commando. Not sure if I want to start over with a Defender or what.

I may be reading things into the story that aren't there, but it sure seems interesting and creepy. I don't really trust what's going on, and don't really know who or what side is "good". Very intriguing...

After being turned off by the demo I'm having tons of fun with this as a rental. I've been up until 2 AM the last two nights playing (I get up at 6 AM for work). Once I got used to the controls they became very satisfying versus the gimmicky impression I got from the demo.

I don't know how long of legs it will have but I'm already at 14+ hours and show no signs of slowing up yet. I would highly recommend it as a rental or cheap purchase (like the Target clearance deals popping up).
