Personally I love this idea, but then again I am a big fan of the magic pengell and graffiti kingdom games due to the amount of creative freadom the player has. Thumbs up from me.

Definitely a cool idea, if they can pull it off I'm sure this will be another must have in the DS library!

So many ds games so little ds lites.
sounds interesting, looks like a draw you own character for mario'esque platformer? Not really sure of the gameplay though.

if this game plays anything like actraiser, it will be awesome. it sounds a little like it based on this description:
""Village Mode" is a full-featured option where you interact with the villagers and help to repopulate their village. "Challenge Mode" is more of a side-scrolling adventure where you control your Hero Creations to gain back the Template pages."

im not too sure about making a platformer out of this. I dont see how collision detection and other stuff can be programmed, especially since most portable side scrollers can't figure this out without having fully customizable characters.
If I've learned anything from Magic Pengel, its that not even customization can save a game if it has frustrating gameplay.
Sorry to be such a downer, but im approaching this with only cautious optimism

I'll be the first to say it, what kind of "interactions" to help "repopulate" the village?

you make very vailid points. Like I said it's kinda like graffiti kingdom... though GK wasn't such a great game, it had a great range of possabilities.

Concept on this one is excellent, it's all in how it's executed. If the actual game underneath is shite, it'll be unredeemable. Depends on if the developer thinks they can get by on interesting concept or if the concept merely expands on an already solid base.
I found Magic Pengel and Graffiti Kingdom very fun, until you actually started playing them.

This looks interesting, but I'm waiting on the reviews. Designing your own character, weapons, etc is neat but if the gameplay isn't good it's not worth it.

According to buy.com it's due out 9/11/07, but Familyvideo says 9/18/07. Hmm. In any case this just sounds too cool and so I put in a pre-order at buy.com with GCO $10 off deal ("first time GCO users only"). $18.99 shipped if you can use the GCO discount.

Ship date appears to be the 10th, so it should be in most stores by Tuesday, or else a bit later in the week.
I'm very interested in this, game...maybe I'll pick it up at the CC sale if I can find something else I really want in-store.
It will be fun to see what kinds of avatars CAGs and others can make with this title.

Hmm... with skate comming out this week, I may not have time for this... unless I can find another portable title to get I'll have to get this later.

Meh, i'm still too busy playing Luminous Arc to start this new one, but i'll just get it for half price at work (look at the Circuit 9/9-9/15 discussion on how to get a game nice and cheap this week) and just play it when im ready too.
Question: Will this game be any fun for those of us who can only draw stickman figures?

I played it briefly today; there's a long (20 minute-ish) introduction before the game get going. If you can't draw, don't worry; it allows you to trace a number of preexisting characters.
I can't draw, but I love doodling nonetheless. Can't wait to see what kind of goofy, immature stuff I can make with this software. >_<

Wasnt there a PS2 game a while back that used the same concept of drawing your own charachters and what not? And you could battle them like Pokemon abominations.

That would be Magic Pengel and Graffiti Kingdom. I never played the second title, but Magic Pengel was pretty amusing. However, the battle system was pretty shallow, but half the fun of that game was seeing your creations battling.
Well, I've only spent a very brief time with this game, but it's pretty darn cool.
Essentially, it's a 2D side scrolling platformer with some isometric lite RPG-ish elements in-between. The real "draw" (guffaw) to this game is creating your own avatar, which is super neat-o, but at the same time makes me really appreciate the fine art of 2D character design. It's easy to make something, but hard to make it good, if you know what I mean.
But to see your work become part of the game, well that's just priceless to me.
Here's a few samples of the very first parts of the game. It's spoiler-ish and kinda big (plus I just whipped something quick and dirty up), so that's the warning/disclaimer:

Those. Are. Awesome.
I really like the style you used with the planet and trees. And a CheapyD Hero? Priceless.

I REALLY wanted to like this game. The drawing mechanics are pretty excellent and implemented well, but the gameplay and design otherwise is simply bland and standard fare for a children's game. I'm pretty disappointed.

Thanks!
And as for the game and gameplay itself, yeah, it's very lightweight. Again, the real hook here is the paint/draw aspects (which are pretty robust, despite the template restrictions) and that part is amusing for any age. Still, as most of the reviews I've read point out, it really is geared towards a younger crowd overall. I'm excited to let my son and daughter play with this later when they're a little older as I'm sure they'd have a blast. At $24 shipped from Family Video, this was a solid purchase for me.

Does this game remind anyone of dragon quest rocket slime? It seems a little similar to me. Having to find the characters and bring them back to town.

So far I have to agree with the others that while the drawing part is cool and fun, the game itself is, well, pretty dull. Also, the animation of your creations is a bit disappointing. Very simplistic. I guess I was expecting too much. Mind you, I've only played through the first level and I will give the game some more time. Also, one of the reasons I picked this game up was to find out if my 4 year-old might like it for his 5th birthday (when he'll also be getting a DS). He might. He might not. I'm not sure yet. He'll probably like the drawing part since he loves to draw, but I'm not sure if he'd find the game part all that fun.
