Parasite Eve 1 + 2 - Still Worth Seeking Out?

I've always been somewhat interested in the Parasite Eve series, but I've also always been on the fence... how well have these games held up and are they still worth owning or buying today?

Two of my favorite PsX games. If you can get past a few technical issues, and some infuriatingly hard battles (1st game) you'll enjoy it. The second game is one of those unfortunately overlooked gems. It has a Real time battle system that plays out on a grid(where you fire and reload in real time, not via a menu), the story is pretty interesting (though a tad bit Resident Evil-y), and the monsters are pretty cool (the Burner is one of my favorite bosses).

Considering they're pretty cheap, I say get them.

Parasite Eve 1 is an awesome game. Definitely one of my favorite games on PS1 and it did a great job of combining RPG/Action/Horror. There were some pretty good cutscenes in this game as well. I remember there being some really intense battles where I was constantly worrying about running out of ammo and that really made the game fun for me.

I own Parasite Eve 2 but I've never gotten around to playing it.

PEII isn't cheap... 'specially if you're looking for it new.... although I actually managed to get a new copy on the cheap so I guess that's irrelevant. Anyway, I don't really like having games that are only pretty good in my collection... so would I be correct in thinking that these games are really good and one's that I'd definitely want to have in the future? I'd rather pass if these are games that are kinda nice to play through once but are relatively worthless games after that first time...

Well., they're cheap used anyway(Gamestop). I hesitate to tell people that games are "ZOMG AMAZING" because it's a lot to live up to. I enjoyed both games to a high degree, but that doesn't mean that you will. Since you already bought it, I guess it's a moot point.

PE2 is one of the few games I've played ~6 times through. Its just awesome.

Does anyone know how much Parasite Eve 2 might be in store? Gamestop / EB's online prices are WAY off... they had Silent Hill 1 for $17.99 online, $7.99 in store.

If Parasite Eve 2 is a bit cheaper then $17.99 I might search it out.

I was just mentioning in the game girl thread that I enjoyed PE1. I haven't finished it yet but the game is really cool and different. I have PE2, just haven't played it yet.

Parasite Eve 2 is only $9.99 in store at GS / EB... I think I will hit up the numerous stores the locator says has one and grab it.

It says $13 for Parasite Eve on the gamestop site for me and $18 for Parasite Eve 2.
Roufuss, I hope my local EB store is the same as yours with the whole differing prices between EB/GS website with their in-store prices! :)
I keep hoping medal of honor will ring up as $4 at that same EB, even though its priced at $8 on the website and on the price tag! It was $4 at another GS.

Parasite Eve 1 had the better story, but I liked the gameplay/battle system in PE2 better. They both rock.

Off topic, the book (parasite eve) that the first game is a sequel to and the japanese movie was based on was just recently (january 2006) translated and published in America. It's suppossed to be good, im going to pick it up when I finish reading The World Is Flat.

From the few videos I've seen, the soundtrack seems amazing. And for RPGs in particular, music is an extremely important aspect for me.

I was never able to give Parasite Eve a try, although I loved the sequel. I would love to find the sequel and probably the first game to try out.

Parasite Eve 1 is one of my favorite games. I was stoked to find a complete mint copy for 5.99 at gamestop last summer. The bosses are hard though. I got stuck on the first battle with Eve at the end and stopped playing, but I need to go back and finish it. I also have PE2, but have never played it. I will be sure to play it soon though. So, yeah if you own a PS or PS2 buy these games and you can't go wrong.

Parasite Eve is an awesome game. I haven't played the sequel yet, but I'd love to in the future. I'd say this a series that badly needs a sequel unless something happened in the second game that would prevent that from happening.
