View Full Version : Question About Controller - Does it have "Vibration"?

I was wondering this, for all stupid testosterone reasons: will the Wii remote have vibration functions like most standard functions? If so, I fear something along the lines of the Rez Trance Vibrator.

It should, therefore I'm going to say that it does.
So in short, your girlfriend wont need you as much anymore.

“It is to be confirmed, but I’m pretty sure it (the revolution) needs some sensors near the television. This way the revolution will know where the remote is”
Ugh, I never even thought about that.. where the hell am I gonna put "sensors" around my tv?

It's just a little bar as it currently exists, that can either go above or below the TV.

There is a picture of the prototype sensor that was shipped with the early Revolution dev kits in this IGN article. Nintendo says that it will change.

I finalyl figured it out, it was just escaping me earlier. The power glove, this thing uses the same idea as the power glove! The only difference is that this will be able to detect movement in 3 dimensions instead of 2.

Well...sort of. The difference is that there's actually something to grip when you play so your brain is working with it right from when you pick it up.
It's really hard to pretend to say, swing a tennis racket, with nothing in your hand but when your brain has something to hold onto and sort of mimic that same movement as it's already trained to do everything is a lot more natural.
And also, it doesn't work like crap.

Yeah but earlier I was thinking it was more like a light gun concept but its clearly a power glove in 3 dimensions. And we don't know how it works yet actually so it would be difficult to say it doesn't work like crap.

I want a glove to wear and slide the controller into a slot on top... maybe it would also disable all the functions of the controller and just use the face buttons so it'd be just like the REAL power glove! ;)

It's based off of the same technology used in one of these (http://www.gyration.com/en-US) bad boys. I have one and the motion sensing is spot on and completely fluid. I guess I'm just assuming that the controller in Wii will be as good.

Nintendo is investing millions in this new style of control, and betting the farm that people will love it. I reeeeally doubt that its gonna work like crap.

But you can't know that. Just because a company spends a lot of money on something and are depending on its success doesn't automatically mean it will work perfectly. We will not and can not know how it will work until E3 at the earliest and even then we're still gonna have to wait and see what the mass produced units end up performing like to really decide if it works correctly.
People seem to forget that for every major success Nintendo has had such as the DS, gameboy series, NES, and SNES, they've also had monumental failues such as the Virtual Boy and Power Glove that were not only sales failures but didn't work very well at all.

I agree with what you're saying, but the powerglove was just a controller, the only real failure I see there is the virtual boy. I know we can't really know how it will perform until E3, but this is their major console for this generation, I really doubt they would allow the very reason to get one (the control system) to suck. That would be shooting themselves in the foot with a fucking rocket launcher.
I guess we'll see at E3, but I think all that's really in question is third party support and whether or not it's really fun to use, not that it'll work.

See I'm not saying that it will automatically be a crappy controller but rather what I am saying is that there exists the possibility. Everyone's saying that it will automatically be a perfect controller but there's no way to know that. Like I mentioned about mass production, its real easy for things to get screwed up in mass production.

I'll grant you the Virtual Boy was a huge Nintendo flop, but wasn't the Power Glove a Mattel product?

What everyone is also forgetting is that people have used the controller, and they've said it works fine. So unless Nintendo backtracks in what they've done to date, I can't see how from one E3 to the next (and release 6 months later) it will suddenly be a crappy controller.

Those controllers weren't mass produced. You're reading what you want to out of my post instead of what I'm actually saying.

The virtual boy was deffinately a huge flop and financial failure, but even it did what Nintendo claimed it did. It provided a real 3d expirience that was actually pretty fun. It just also happened to be all red and black and give people headaches.

Well, yes. And it's also possible that the sensitivity of the left trigger in the PS3 controller could get fucked up during mass production. I suppose they could use cheaper parts when they produce it, but certainly not without making sure the cheaper parts function as they are expected.

Or for the 360 to have overheating issues.

You are absolutely correct, there is a chance, however small, that the new controller will be absolute crap, or that there will be a huge defect in manufacturing that compromises is functionality.
I guess some things are a matter of faith, and I have alot of faith in Nintendo. =)
