I think I heard that GBA is included in the Virtual Console stuff, but does the Wii have a slot for physical GBA cartridges?

Since everything else will be backward compatible, the only reason to keep a GameCube on my shelf would be for the GBA player. So I'm hoping I can just store that away somewhere and play my GBA games on the Wii.

Never heard GB stuff being in the VC. Nintendo has said they want to keep portable and console libraries separate.

That said, I don't know of a GBA slot.

I doubt they'd include a slot, but perhaps a similar add-on in the future. Since it has a couple USB ports they could have a pretty small and simple device that just plugs in there rather than that big honking add-on to the cube.

Good question. I was thinking of picking up a Gameboy Player for the 'Cube. I'd grab one for sure if I knew they compatible with the Revo, err I mean Wii.

That's not true.

Nintendo themselves last E3ish came out and said that they could be DS and GB games on the VC.

Hi.

Since when does "could be" mean it will?

Also, perhaps you guys would like to pull up a quote or two? Or even some speculation other than "I heard" ?

i dont remember them ever saying gameboy, gameboy advance, or ds games will be on the virtual console.

as for an add on, where would it go?

They did ammend one of their patents for the virtual console to add non-console games to it. Doesn't mean that they necessarily will, but it means they've at least considered it.

I'm pretty sure they've never said for certain that they want to keep the libraries separate or that they'll be meshing together.

I'm keeping my Cube and its GBP for a while yet. If the Wii (Revo, Nintendo Machine of Death!!!1, whatever) has a GBA slot... I'll probably still keep it to keep my collection of Sega and Nintendo consoles complete.

How much hardware do you guys think it would take to just make a device that works like a video out and lets you actually hold the GBA or DS and then play the Gameboy games on the TV? If it wouldn't take much I could see that happening. Obviously, DS games wouldn't really work, but I'd hope any sort of player could connect to both handhelds for advance games.

dunno, a question for the ages cheif.

I don't think they should have portable games on the Wii VC. Instead, their next gameboy/ds should come with sizable memory cards for you to be able to download classic gb, gbc, and gba games from Nintendo Wi-Fi.

I believe that would be more in line with games that have not appeared on previous consoles, like what the Xbox Live Arcade offers. I know some friends of mine who were told by Nintendo that one of their games could possibly appear on the virtual console if they were to pursue that avenue.

Maybe there will be an add on for the successor to the gameboy, assuming there will be one.
