I hope it turns out better than the recent titles.

looks liek they're redooing some of the classic levels from the look of the Beaver Pride pool... looks too much like the school from THPS2.

I loved THPS1-3 to hell. Played them so much. Played to till my thumbs hurt, and this was when I was in the hospital. They didn't have a memory card so I had to play it the entire time I was there nonstop. THPS4 was fun, but not great. At least I only paid $5 for it. Actually, I wouldn't mind rebuying THPS3. And they do need to return to the classic format. They've tried to toy and augment the series far too much from its original roots when they had achieved what can be hailed as as close to perfection for such a series as they would get. Oh and I just got to play underground 2 and who signed off on that shit is an idiot. I can only imagine the lead director on that game and having to polish that turd just so it would be acceptable.

Funny you should meantion Underground 2, as I just wrote a review of that a few days ago:

Whosajiggawha?

Yes. That's exactly what I'm thinking. I totally knew that you were 15 before you mentioned it. Good job, Junior, the secret's out.

By the way, you are just a 15 year old. Judging by everything thing in that post, I'm assuming you're a grubby one with long, greasy hair and tattered cloths at that. I suspect that you wear black all the time, and have a long-ass chain that hangs past the bottom of the cargo shorts that that are clinging just above your crack. You probably wear DC, Etnies, or someother "boarder-shoe", and one of those fuckin' Beanie things that Marley used to wear. A duck-tape wallet, perhaps? No? What about little "ghey" stickers all over your stuff? You must, 'cause you're a rebel, and that's what rebels have.

Oh, and good luck with that whole "chat" thing. After that crack analysis of the Tony Hawk games, I'm sure there'll be plenty of people who flock to your buddy list. You're fixin' to become the most popular member of the site. Congratulations.

P.S. You best take that link down, 'cause someone's going to spam that shit like there's no tomorrow. *Wink Wink*

EDIT:

....

What the hell does this signify? That you want a response one minute after you wrote that first wall of "ddduuuhhh"? We're not fuckin' super-people, kid. Putting in periods, capitalizing, and all that good stuff takes time; something you've obviously never had to experience. Besides, even if someone does respond to that shit, it ain't gunna be pretty. Take this literary masterpiece for an example.

Listen, ace. Just go grab your sippy-cup, pull out your LEGOs, flip the channel back to Barney, and stay off the goddamn internet. You're not welcome here.

same here...

I'm actually hoping that it plays more like a simulation game with very basic tricks like the ones shown in the trailer... a small area with you to be creative with what you have. It'll be less crazy, but I personally like playing mroe realistic since it usually looks alot smoother and nicer... I hope it's that way, but I'm guessing it wont be.

the entire game engine has been removed and redone and the game dosn't run off single animations anymore. The entire skater is split into 8 differnt animations, all changing depending on what is currently going on with your skater.

your all right, god of war 2 will be on ps2 and ps3

and as far as THP8 goes, i just hope that beating your opponent on 2-player wont just depend on who can manual the longest while button mashing or finding a rail the just goes in a circle. combos are good but ruin the realism of the game. (another bonus would be to NOT be able to do both a back-flip and a front-flip in one air)

plus it's the one thing that ruined the series IMHO... I love both sides of it, but I actually prefer the realism of it all... probably because I use to skate heavily myself... I'd have it rather look liek a skate video than a skitso on a skateboard.

well if its rediculasly long combos that you like, the just stick with THUG 1 and 2. Thaw is a little more role based, and i have a feeeling that Project 8 is going to be even more role based.i do agree that the combos are fun, but i just think that its pushing away from the fun in the game. it makes no difference if u have to land a 25,000 combo in hawaii or a 100,000 point combo in new jersey. i'm just hoping that the manuel in project 8 will be more difficult than in recent games

agreed. I'm also hoping for harder reverts and cavemanning... some of the really hard stuff in terms of real life skating are way to easy in THPS... here's hoping it all gets fixed.

I figured that I'd just bump up this thread instead of creating a whole new one just for this small feature. I noticed this from the IGN blog from the developers of the game and I had to share.

Nail the Trick - basically it's a way to use the analog sticks to flip and spin the board while in the air in slow motion. It looks freakin' awesome.

Video demonstration (http://media.xbox360.ign.com/media/803/803274/vid_1659627.html)

Here's the blog post itself (http://blogs.ign.com/Project8team/2006/09/07/30268/):

I’m Scott Pease - I led the development of the first five Tony Hawk games and now oversee multiple teams at Neversoft. But the most rewarding part of my job is still when I get hands-on with the design of a new Hawk game feature.

So I’m here to give you a preview of a killer new mechanic that just might change the face of the franchise, like the manual and revert before it. We call it “Nail the Trick.”

Since Pro Skater 1 we’ve been trying to capture the essence of skateboarding in the core gameplay – the freedom to skate what you want, the creativity to try tricks anywhere, the means to push yourself towards bigger and bigger goals (i.e. combos).

But something was still missing - something tactile; some element that captured what it feels like to flick your foot at just the right moment and angle and execute a perfect kickflip...

Enter “Nail the Trick.”

It started with a simple question: can we make the dual analog sticks on the controller act like the skater’s feet and precisely control the flipping of the skateboard?

I could explain how it works it in detail, but I think pro skater Rodney Mullen does a damn good job in our new video: (click image to play)

http://xbox360media.ign.com/xbox360/image/article/731/731242/tony-hawks-project-8-20060907024559283.jpg (http://media.xbox360.ign.com/media/803/803274/vid_1659627.html)

When you enter Nail the Trick mode – and you can do this at any time by clicking both analog sticks - we slow down time, to focus in on your board, and bring the camera in from the side so that the sticks on the controller match your feet as if you were standing on the skateboard.

What’s hard to show in the video is that you directly control your feet with the sticks. Push the left stick down or up and your front foot flicks– under analog control - in a kickflip or heelflip-like motion. Push the right stick (back foot) down or up and you’ve got a backside or frontside shove-it. You get front or back foot “impossibles” for left and right flicks. For the non-skaters out there, that means with both sticks you can flip the board around all three axes of rotation, and in any combination you can dream up.

It’s all mapped to the analog sticks to give some subtle motions. Flick the left stick precisely straight up and the board spins faster, in a perfectly clean flip. Push it sort sloppy, off angle, and you get a slow rotating “mob” flip.

As in real life, you have to hold your feet out of the way as the board spins – so you’ve got to release the sticks at just the right moment to “catch” the board and land it. It feels good this way; a little closer to skating.

Then there’s the combo. Instead of putting your foot back on the board, you can try a new flip when the board is straight up (late flips) or perfectly upside down (a nod to underflips).

http://xbox360media.ign.com/xbox360/image/article/731/731242/tony-hawks-project-8-20060907102608273-000.jpg (http://media.xbox360.ign.com/media/803/803274/img_3896728.html)
Nail the Trick Sequence: A big ollie to front foot impossible, to a late kickflip on the bottom side of the board...

http://xbox360media.ign.com/xbox360/image/article/731/731242/tony-hawks-project-8-20060907102606351-000.jpg (http://media.xbox360.ign.com/media/803/803274/img_3896727.html)
... two rotations later, Bob catches the board with both feet, lands, and rolls away.

(Click on these pictures to get the bigger, bad ass exclusive blog versions)

We push the realism a little bit so that you can create dynamic combinations of different board flips. Some that haven’t been done yet, but you can imagine they just might work, if someone (ok, Rodney Mullen) could pull it off. It’s a blast to invent new tricks on the fly.

Like any good mechanic, there’s depth you eventually learn. You get bonuses for creativity and variety, the board spins faster the more accurate you are with your feet, and for a total mind trip you can spin your body frontside or backside which causes the camera and the world to rotate around you.

The result is a new mechanic that makes the simple act of a clean varial kickflip or a heelflip to boardslide feel fresh and cool again... Yet has the depth to make you try it over and over as you think up new combinations and new ways to score. At the office we’ve been having a blast one-upping each other on the Nail the Trick leaderboards, trying to outdo each other’s board flipping kung fu.

In the end, what we have with Nail The Trick is the result of many ideas contributed by a great many people on the team. It’s brand new, and yet feels like we always should have had it... I think the best mechanics are like that.

I could go on with more details, but Nail the Trick is just one small part of the total Project 8 package. You’ll be able to try it out when Project 8 releases in the Fall. Thanks for checking in... Now get off you’re a$$ and go skate!

My only wish for the game was that it would have gone for a more realistic sim mode or something since THPS and real life skating have both gone in almost two different directions. At least the new analog control focus tricks will quench part of that want for me.

You do know that that is during the time that Nail the Trick is enabled, where time is slowed down, thus you're focusing on the board and everything else is blurred? Once you're out of it, everything comes back into focus. Watch the video and it shows how that works.

Realistic would be a fun feature, but if the whole game were like that it would be frustrating. Sure there are a lot of tricks most people can land consitantly, but if it were truely realistic you would be falling and bailing a whole lot which would take away from the game if realism was the whole game. However if it were a separate mode that would be really sick. Or if maybe they add a new stat bar for consistancy, where once you max the bar you almost always land first try bolts. I've been hoping for a realistic mode since the game came out, hopefully they'll do something about it.

Also, I heard this would be the last game in the series, anyone hear any latest news about this? Hopefully it won't be. IIRC, Tony has a 10 yr contract with Neversoft/Activision, so that's not up yet, so I have no idea.

Really the only TH games I've played are THUG 1 and 2. An old room mate beat THUG 1 on my xbox in 3 days. I picked up THUG 2 for my PS2 back in May last year because Wally world was trying to get rid of excess copies for 20 bucks. I'd really like to get THAW, but I'll probably wait till it hits at least 20 used on 360. But yeah, P8 looks pretty damn cool.

Is it me, or did they wait too fuckin long to make it available on Live??

I have to agree that i'm becoming interested in Tony Hawk again after watching that video and reading about it. The last great THPS game to really interest me was THPS 4 and IMO the best one of the series. Hopefully its a little more realistic because i really cant ever get out on my board again and would love to feel like i'm skating in a game, i just hope they did away with the crappy "i'm flying up in the air and i can bail out and land on the side of the lip of the half pipe and grind the whole yard" Maybe thats just me but that sorta stuff was cool for combo crunchers but when i was skating and i messed up on my approach on my buddies half pipe i couldn't bail and land on my feet dammit, i broke my fucking leg when i messed up my approac and came back down and landed on my freaking ankle and snapped my leg, ooooo god that sucked. Why the hell am i rambling.....lol

Looks like it wont be online for the PS3

http://ps3.qj.net/Game-Developers-Clueless-Over-PS3-s-Online-Availability-/pg/49/aid/66239

"Speaking of online play, Tony Hawk's Project 8 is built with full online capabilities for Xbox 360, including support of Live, classic two-player challenges, a new game called Walls (which plays like Snake or Tron), and up to eight-player online games. But Project 8 is not online for PlayStation 3. Not online for PS3. Only within the last three weeks has Neversoft received its PS3 beta kits...Neversoft is confident the PS3 version of the game will ship at launch in November, but it still hasn't received all of the software libraries and has no indication of how the online components will work on PS3, so it's not offering them. For a software company that's always supported the PlayStation system and was, in fact, the first developer to offer online play on PS2 with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, that's saying something. Neversoft wouldn't explain any further, but it's clear to this reporter that if Neversoft could go online with the PS3 version, it would."

*edit* I got the link from GameFaqs and the page wont load for me, so take it for what its worth.
