Never heard of this site. Came across the article in a different forum. Hope it's true, but if it sounds too good to be true.......

Interesting, but I'm calling a "no". Free system with the purchase of a few games? Not in this lifetime.

If this were true, I'd be instantly in on the 3 games and a 2nd controller deal.

Sadly, I doubt this will come to pass.

EDIT: RF, you think a deal will at least come with a pair of scissors to cut off one's balls when buying the Wii?

It would be nice, but I doubt it as well. How has nintendo gamecube attach rate at launch. The only way I see the story coming true, is if they try to get as many games in the hands of gamers to have them like the system/control scheme. If they have had previous problems with attach rate at launch, this could help.

lol this is funny that anyone would believe this. Odds are the Wii games will cost $40-50 (60 TOPS but i highly doubt it). So if you bought 4 games that would cost you either $160 or $200. Why would they even offer the system for $199.99 when you could get the system and 4 games for a penny more?

I can see them offering a freebie game, maybe a basic Mario game to illustrate the use of the controller, or this Wario Ware game discussed in the other thread, but not a pack of 3 or 4. They shouldnt need a deal as ridiculous as that to sell through the initial shipments.

buy 4 games get a free system.. only if the games cost 100 each.

there hasnt ever been a system pack in with a game before (has there)

so why would this system

If anything, something like this could be a backup plan, on the off chance that NO ONE wants to buy a Wii. This would basically force people with any sort of sense to get one, and then they can back it off from there. Because for this console to be successful, word of mouth will have to be there. Traditional advertising just isn't gonna work.

I'm still pretty confident this won't launch for anything over $200. Anymore and a $100 360 price drop would eliminate a lot of the "Hey, it's a ridiculous amount cheaper!" sales.

Actually, cutting off your balls is a pre-req to getting one. The clerks at Gamestop check them at the door.

I seem to remember Sega and I think it was AOL offering a free dreamcast if you subscribed to their online service for2 years.

Of course that was when the DC was on the decline and not at launch.

The below information comes from an email sent via our tips form. The tipster makes an unsubstantiated claim that Nintendo's Wii will be priced as follows:

Not sure the big N would do that. Stranger things have happened, but this sounds to far fetched.

Infendo.com is a great site. Sure this may still be a rumor, but I find them to be quite a credible site. joystiq has used them sometimes.

Check it, it could be true. Do we know they aren't charging 75-100 Bills for a game at launch? It's far off but with Nintendo ANYTHING could happen.

Yeah, pretty much every system that was released up until the mid-1990's launched with a pack-in game (last one I remember was the Virtual Boy with Tennis). The Playstation/N64/Saturn era is when it stopped. Probably had something to do with the rising cost of developing new games.

The intial saturns came packaged with that horrible version of Virtua Fighter. They then were repackaged with Virtua Fighter Remix. And later that AM2 3-Pack (Daytona USA, Virtua Fighter 2, and Virtua Cop).

As for the Wii rumors, joystiq reported a couple of months ago that they may be as expensive as $350, citing a listing in a Canadian TRU's system.

I think I'll wait for a Nintendo press release.

 Wow, old news. I could probably search the deals forum to find the thread I posted about that like 6 months ago. Amazon.fr had a listing that when converted to dollars came out to ~$300ish. And there's no way in hell it will be near there. No one would choose a Wii over the 360 for the same cost. I wouldn't.

I see maybe X% off the system with X amount of games purchased on the same receipt or something like that. Circuit City did something like that if you bought 2-3 (can't remember which) 360 games when you bought the console. It worked out to like $10-20 off MSRP, plus they gave you a free $10 gift card.

But I can't believe a free system. Maybe if they said $50-100 with 4 games, I might believe that, but not free.

The only thing that supports this is that EB/GameStop/GameCrazy were told to stop taking pre-orders so many months ago.. maybe due to a new pricing structure and how to handle that?

Well Nintendo has already announced that games for the Wii would not be more than $50 so that won't happen.

The strange thing is that I was thinking something like this could be a possibility as their surprise Revo/Wii announcement. Maybe a subscription plan to the VirtualConsole would get you the console for free or for a discount. I highly doubt it is true, but it would be huge if it was.

All you guys replying to this listing systems (Genesis with Altered Beast, NES with SMB, etc) : I might be wrong here, but the way I'm reading that is a SYSTEM coming with a GAME, not a game coming with a system. In that case, I'd think he's right, I've never heard of a system being free with game purchase.

This would be insane although I'm sure it wouldn't change anyone's minds about buying it. I mean, you can get a Gamecube with 2 games and 2 controllers for $99 if you look around hard enough and there are "gamers" out there who still don't own one. Morons I say!!!

Every company says they want to give thier system away for free. This is a way to do that without shooting themselves in the foot.

I'd go for it.

I don't know, it wouldn't change "gamers" minds, they'd laugh and tell you to go play with your wii, and then go play random WWII/Quasi-futuristic FPS '06.

I could see this getting soccer moms, grandparents and a bunch of non-gamer types to move on it sooner than they would.

I put the chances of this happening at about 0.00000000000000000000001%, though.
