I was at EB and the guy offered that game protection warranty. I said I had no use for it and (unlike most workers) he agreed with me and said it's mostly for kids who don't know how to take care of their stuff. Somehow the conversation detoured a bit and the original playstation was brought up. When I mentioned I had a fully working, first gen, second run playstation (It's SCPH-1001) he refused to believe me. He then asked me what the a/v cable output was on the back since he said that only the first few batches had the 3 a/v ouput and not output like on the ps2. I told him it had 3 a/v outputs on the back. He said that they even had a playstation rep in there a month or so ago and he was told that none of those systems should be working. He refused to even believe I had one, the best he said was "well, it's possible, but I'd be really suprised if yours is an early one".
Is it really that odd?

My original PS1, which was a day one launch model, died. But the replacement I got is the same model you have. At the time I bought it, it was an old model and I had to search around to find it. But mine has the 3 seperate av outs like yours, its a 1001 model and it still works great to this day. And this one was used daily for at least 2 years until i got a PS2.

Mine still works too.
...I think. I haven't touched it since the XBox came out. Since it hasn't moved since then though I assume it does. I bought mine as a refurb from Funcoland when it appeared my Saturn was going to come out on the losing end of the 32-bit war.

If its on its side, and then only barely.

I've still got mine from the Playstation launch to remind me what a big mistake that purchase was. Oh well, at least it was good for Symphony of the Night. Most of the rest of the time it was collecting dust, however.

I saw one that worked about 3 or 4 years ago, but it was very lightly used. I owned one that died fairly quickly.

I have owned quite a few launch systems, and the ONLY one that ever died on me was the original brick shaped gameboy.

I've seen a lot of those models with the av holes lately, but they're all really dirty as if left outside in the dirt. I wonder what people do with these systems when not being played. Anyway, are these models worth owning even as a collecter's piece even though I own the little white psone?

I really doubt it.. even though older PS1s from about the 7000s and earlier had the parallel port so you could use a action reply on it but thats about it.. i don't think they will be anymore valuable then other PS1s

I had the same model but mine died 3 years ago, I got tired of the ocasional freezing and the fact that I had to have it on its side, but I did take good credit....just played the hell out of it

I have a launch system original playstation, and it recently died on me probably about 2 months ago. I moved it into my sister's room because she asked me if she could play ddr and when she tried to turn it on the disc wouldnt spin. it would turn on and I could access the memory card, but that's it.

The last I checked, the Playstation I got at launch still worked. I can't say I've used it much in the last 7 years though.
