Taking poll results the day after.

Did the conference energize you about the PS3/PS2/PSP? Were you surprised? If so, in a good or bad way? Did you leave the conference overwhelmed or underwhelmed? Do you think that Sony proved that they truely are the kings of the industry, or do you think they dropped the ball?

What are your thoughts?

I'm still waiting for IGN or someone to have the conference to download so I can watch the whole thing, but unless I am mistaken other than Final Fantasy which was a given, there was no big game announcements that people didn't already know about. Couple that with the price, and Microsoft and Nintendo each have a chance to steal the show if they can announce something big today (and in my mind, Halo 3 doesn't count because that's as much of a given as FF is for PS3). Sony didn't lose anything with their show, but they definitely left it open to Microsoft or Nintendo to take it away from them.

I watched it all live and the only word I can use to describe it is dissapointment. Mainly because of the price and the controller.

a whole lot of nothing. We already knew 95% of what was discussed

Gamespot has it for download on the front page.

My opinion:

Meh.

The PS3 is exactly what I thought it would be. A PS2 with better graphics and XBox Live added on. The games that were shown were all the same that are on PS2, they just look pretty-er. What surprises me is that they catered most of their games they selected to show towards American fans (FPS, sports, racing) and didn't show very many Japanese favs (RPGs, stragety, um....pachislot?) Anyway, the lack of RPGs was the biggest surprise to me, as that is one of the strongest selling points for the PS2.

If the Wii can launch with Zelda and FF:Crystal Cronicles as they claim(and maybe even that Dragon Quest game) then the Wii will definatly have a superior advantage towards the Japanese fanboys. I seriously doubt FF XIII will be ready for the PS3 launch.

There doesn't appear to be any killer games at launch for the PS3 either, unless they are holding something back. Not like I'm sure the Nintendo will have. When Sony showed their games everyone was all "ooooooo" and "aaaahhh". When Nintendo shows their games later this morning, we'll hear from the audience: "Holy shit!" and "Hot damn!"

I will give my opinion after I watch it when it is finished downloading from Gamespot onto my computer since I wasn't able to see it last night.

Edit: Watched it and starting to think that Sony is really down playing the PS2 and PSP to focus it's attention on PS3. They should try to work on the things that got them to #1 but it looks like they won't. I didn't really see anything worth of a purchase at launch.

But I do have to say that Sony sure knows how to rip off the ideas of their competitor's:

1. They are trying to copy Xbox Live Marketplace which is sad because if they were going to still do online free they should try to make the content free. Sony even copied the Marketplace Points system with their own Playstation Card.

2. Motion Sensor Controller is stolen from Nintendo Wii. Enough said there.

Basically, Sony is know trying to take the best of its competitors and incorporate it into their system which is a bad thing because it doesn't make anything they do seem original.

Most likely.

I was bored for the first half. No surprises there. The psp had nothing to show, and overall was passed over in the blink of an eye.

The second half (meaning:after GT HD) was better, but NOTHING on that stage came off as natural or fun. EVERYTHING felt forced. All jokes about Reggie aside, him and J Allerd at least have showmanship. Last night we got a British infomercial salesman and a bad powerpoint presenter in a pink shirt.

System wise its close to what they projected: An incredibly powerful system that comes with a wireless controller. The 2 price points/packages wasn't too much of a surprise, more of a let-down.

The controller TO ME was a let-down as well. I have never been a fan of the dual shock for 3-d games. It has always felt awkward. The fact that button/stick placement is exactly the same is a negative to me. The lack of force-feedback and the addition of the tilt sensor shows how much trouble Sony has had since they showed off the boomerang controller.

If it wasnt for screwing around in the CAG AIM chatroom while it was going on, it would have been a complete wash.

Yea, the jokes in the CAG chat room just would not stop.

For all their pomp and circumstance, Sony really didn't put on a great show in terms of pure mechanics. Kaz is the only guy with any sort of fire out there, with the exception of Kutaragi - whose shit eating grin makes me want to punch him - but that's not really much.

It boils down to: racing, some nice looking previews, Sony execs who are crappy at their own games, and pricing/controller reviews.

All of the jokes made in CAG were absolutely tear-inducing. After the British guy showed GT1 and said "Back then, you thought this was real," it just wouldn't fucking stop. EVERYTHING he said after that could be used as a joke.

The guy talking about Resistance? "We envision a world where WW2 didn't happen." -----> "WW2 is no longer real."

"Afrika is not a word." ----> Yea well, the PS3 just made it real AND put it in Webster's Dictionary.

Then there were all the jokes about how every other guy in the conference was either a dirty hippie OR was bald and had a pink shirt on. I don't know if J. Allard knows this, but Sony cloned him 3-4 times apparently.

Anyway, Sony could have put on a better show, really. The game demos looked nice, but that's a different thread/discussion.

I put it was great...sure some of it was boring, but some of those trailers for games were really awesome, and then when that MGS4 trailer came up my head almost exploded from how awesome it was. So yeah...at least we know how much the PS3 will be now.

It's pretty interesting that no Capcom stuff was shown. DMC4 and RE5 would've gotten a big pop from the crowd.

Everyone talks about how the Wii is a suped up gamecube but more than ever the PS3 looks like nothing except and overpriced suped up PS2.

This whole thing would be moot if Microsoft would just shut up and buy Japan.

I was let down. Nothing blew me away. The controller was a let down, the games that were shown were a let down with the exception of MGS 4, and the overall presentation was lackluster.

I didn't have a chance to watch it. Were the trailers in game or were they the just movies?

I'd like those 90 minutes of my life back, please.

Nothing really worth noting, outside of their controller IMO.

And definitely join the CAG chat if you can! It was a GREAT time last night and I expect no less from today's presentations.

there was so much filler-- that commercial with people saying they like the playstation served no purpose and the GT HD section would've put me to sleep if I wasn't in the CAG chat *honk*

Sony Presentation:
1rst/2nd parties... meh.
3rd Parties.... Whoo hoo!
Controller..... WTF?
Release/Pricing.... boo!

It was overall a pretty boring presentation and I thought the would try to push the PSP some more but it didn't seem like it. The PS3 presentation was as expected and the demos shown were nice and at least they talked about the contoller and the prices/release dates. I think MS and especially Nintendo have an opportunity to really steal the show after Sony's flat presentation.

the psp montage was hilarious-- just the same games looped over and over.

I also thought it was a boring presentation. I was really dissappointed in the PSP support. And the PS3 trailors they showed were ok. Nothing mind blowing except for MGS4. The controller is just a copy of everything Nintendo and Microsoft did. But that's Sony for you. They had there own designed with the boomerang controller and shyed away from it when everyone ripped on it. So they then copy wht everyone like abouth the 360 and Wii controller. The price....It's really not expensive when you are also gettin a bluray player. But for a videogame console I think they are making a mistake. Only time will tell though. It just sucks that VF5 and Tekken 6 are exclusive. Now I might have to drop the $600....

The only thing has me really excited is MGS4. Did anyone notice how stupid the AI was in the Genji 2 gameplay presentation, I'm sure its an early demo but they just stood there.

I love some of the exclusive titles that sony has to offer (FF, Genji, MGS4, VF5 and Teken) but I'm not sure what the big difference is going to be besides Blue-Ray when it comes to comparing the two next-gen systems graphically.

I am leaving out the Wii completely when it come to graphics.

I have not seen the whole press conference yet but from the little footage I have watched there is really nothing too exciting besides MGS4 which looked a little toned done graphically from the original trailer.

I will watch more later this evening but so far not too impressed.
