Well, I have been waiting for the PSP's price to drop, and just recently, Sony has dropped the price down to $200.00 for the Core. :bouncy:

I have done an enormous amount of research on the internet, and I have also decided that I would like to run homebrewed programs on the PSP despite the risk of bricking the PSP. However, I have been told by many that the warranty policies of both Compusa and Best Buy are terrible. In fact, my friend, whose PSP went black while running a homebrewed program, is now out $250 simply because Best Buy would not accept an exchange.

I have been told that Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, and Ebgames/Gamestop have excellent warranty polices. However, my main concern is whether or not the warranty of these stores (I’ll most likely get it from Gamestop) will cover a bricked PSP. Of course I won’t say bricked when I return it, I will simply say that it just stopped working. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated, because I have been told that Sony will not repair PSPs that have been bricked by homebrewed programs, for the PSP is “not intended for such use.” In addition to that, I don’t want to have to pay for shipping and then wait anywhere from 4-6 weeks!!!

. . . Sorry for the long read, I just want some reassurance I guess

I've never seen a bricked PSP, but if its just a blank screen they won't know. If it says it was bricked - if the screen was cracked due to a fall they still wouldn't know.

I had no problem exchanging my PSP when it developed dead pixels a week after I bought it. Of course, I was still in the 30-day return period, but it was still an easy experience. The CSR didn't even take my PSP out of the box.

I still have my 1.5 running homebrew no problem.

What exactly is bricking?

Making your psp as useless as a brick.

You basically mess with the flash files and then the PSP doesn't boot.
MountainBiker477, you're not going to be able to play homebrew on the newer, cheaper PSPs. You would have to buy one from eBay or here that specifically has 1.5 through 2.0 firmware.

you will only brick your psp if you power off in the middle of an upgrade or run one of those fake downgrader or if you mess around one of the homebrew that edit flash.

It's store-by-store, probably. I returned a PSP to Best Buy cause it had 2 big chunks of stuck pixels, and the girl took everything out, turned it on, went through all the menus, and basically futzed around with it for like 5 minutes. I have no idea what she was looking for or doing.

The good news is she finally put it down, gave me a new one, and that one has 0 dead pixels and a gorgeous screen overall. :)

I would assume if you just went to the store, and said "This doesn't turn on anymore" you'd be ok. Of course, it's up to you if that fits your ethical/moral code.

Core Systems ship with Firmware 2.7, so sorry to break it to you but you won't be running any homebrew. Your best bet is to buy a used one and hope for 2.0 or less, or check eBay.
