yeah, I skipped out on the wii today, tomorrow morning should be better.
Nintendo didn't nearly bring enough and brought a whole lot of DS lite.

My buddy and I saw the wii line and passed on it. The llne was a party full of DS players. So if you had a DS I think it wasn't as bad.
I'm lucky because I had some backstage hook ups and saw the wii stuff without waiting in line. I was very impressed. But maybe if I had waited in line 3 hours I would feel differently.
Nintendo should have been cooler about it and gave out tickets/wristbands. Then when they ran out of tickets/wristbands anyone else wanting to see the wii would be SOL. That would have been the decent thing to do. But I guess the more time your in line for the wii the less time you have to play with the 360 and PS3.

The line was closed after a few hours since the line was wrapping all around the building. I, and a few friends, were in that line somewhere. Five to six hours in line was pretty bad, but the end justified the means.

Good to hear! I'd hate to hear that people who waited so long were disappointed with the Wii but that does not appear to be the case. Excellent!

The TV's they had equipped with microphones and cameras were a very cool touch to put some entertainment into the line for those without DS's, as there was a hot chick on one of them and the guy that voices Mario and various other Mario characters on another (he kind of looks old w/white hair).
Also, Link and Zelda were playing Legend of Zelda on the Wii.

It doesn't give me much hope in getting one on launch day, though! I can't imagine a tiny little Gamestop store having room in the back for a few hundred pre-ordered consoles.

To give you another perspective of how long the Wii line is:
E3 show hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. I got in line at 10 a.m. in the morning -- after a full 2-minute hike from the start to the end -- and after 20 more people got in line behind me, they closed it off for the day, 8 hours before closing time! I believe they did eventually open up the line for another couple hundred people though, if only because people stubbornly continued waiting behind the "Line Closed" sign. I would've done the same thing, haha.

Nintendo shouldve rented some pad across the street that they could keep open 24 hours.

That and I imagine having half the conference waiting in line to try your console helps generate some buzz.
I hate lines, but if you go all the way to E3 getting hands on with the Wii has to be the 1st or 2nd thing on your must-do list.

Graphically, I have to say that Wii games barely look better than those on GameCube. (To be fair, the playable PS3 demos didn't look all that close to the quality seen in the trailers for Killzone 2, MGS4, and FFXIII.) I would have appreciated something that represented a clearer step up from the previous generation...
But if there's one thing that Nintendo has always done right through the years, it's controller design. I think the Wii remote lives up to that heritage. In the time leading up to E3, there were moments when I thought that this whole motion-sensor idea could end up being a cheap gimmick. But actually holding the remote in my hand convinced me that this really could be the way we play games from here on out.
The remote and the nunchuck attachment are very lightweight and have an excellent ergonomic fit. I have only two minor complaints about the controller: First, I found myself uncomfortable with the controller when I had to hold it sideways (such as for Excite Truck and Sonic Wild Fire). It's simply too skinny to fill out my hands in that position, and I assume that's the reason why Nintendo is making the classic controller available for gamers gung-ho about the Virtual Console. Second, when holding the remote in its standard position, the D-pad is not easy to reach and requires a somewhat unnatural extension of the thumb. Thankfully, the D-pad was not used as an integral part of any control setup I saw, but it's a negative design aspect nonetheless. Otherwise, the controller is as near perfect as anything I've seen.
I'm also not convinced yet that the audio speaker on the remote is anything more than a novelty. I can see its theoretical intent, but I don't know if the actual execution will effect what Nintendo desires in terms of immersion. I won't count this as a complaint because it may feel extraneous to me but it has no actual negative impact on my gaming experience.
The actual motion-sensor technology works quite well and can be pretty forgiving, which is good. There were times when I started to forget that I was holding a controller and the controls just felt like a natural extension of my body movements. By the end of the tennis demo, I was swinging like I had a real racket in my hand! There were certain games for which the sensor didn't seem to read as quickly or accurately as I would have liked, but I did notice that there is a pause menu option that allows the user to calibrate the sensor's sensitivity settings. Unfortunately, given the hustle-and-bustle atmosphere of the expo, there was no time for any individual user to finetune the controller to their personal liking.
Overall, I think Nintendo's created a platform for developers with real ingenuity and creativity to call home, and even if one should lack those qualities, the Wii has such an obvious intuitiveness that any game that makes use of this technology could end up looking like a winner.

Also the way Nintendo handled the Wii booth was very good for generating press buzz, but really sucked for E3 Attendees. Many people stood in line not knowing they would have to wait in order to play. Many assumed it was just a presentation like they did with the DS. And after waiting a few hours in line, you sure as hell aren't going to leave the small crowded Wii area so you're basically forced to stay in to try some of the games. That's mainly how I felt. If it was an open section I would have saw the line of people waiting for each specific game and probably just left. Needless to say the whole thing just sucked and they should have devised a method to keep the flow going.
as for the wii.... It's just a gimmick for now pretty much until they can get more solid usage going. Many of the games don't take the full range of motion of movement well. All it records is the actual swing action and the velocity. For the tennis game it's just pure crap.... There is no sense of direction and you can't move the characters at all. and Red steel... well yeah... ha...

According to Perrin Kaplan in the IGN video interview, they were pretty surprised about the length of the lines. I don't they expected such a ridiculous level of enthusiasm from showgoers.

Wow. Huge Frog King line.
I'm glad to hear that those of you who waited actually enjoyed the system. I sure would not have braved that line. First of all, I'm not nearly impressed enough with Nintendo's newest system to wait all day just to play it. Second, I'm to impatient to stand around for something I'm not sure I'm going to like. Kudos to those of you who toughed it out.

That much is true! All you got was a Wii tote bag upon entering and a Wii pin upon exiting, and both of those were gone near the end of the second day.
By the way, I think most of you incredulous about the line are forgetting that many people were there with groups. I was with 4 other people and we'd all take 40-minute shifts waiting in line while the others actually had fun around the show floor. So it wasn't that bad, all things considered.
I should also mention that waiting in line meant that I got to meet Koji Kondo, music composer of the Mario and Zelda series. That definitely made the wait well worth my time!

I don't know what else you expected them to do. It looks like the vast majority were flocking to Nintendo's booth, and nobody could have expected that. If you open up the booth space, you still have tons of lines, only now theyre zigzagging all over the Nintendo space, and on top of that, you probably get even more crowding around the more popular games. The way it looks to me, it could have gone way worse, and Nintendo did a pretty good job at crowd control.

oh no, nintendo handeled the line very well, they even had random people on the walls talking to you. It's just that the lines are sort of artificially created.... I have no doubt the wii would have been popular and there would be a huge amount of people checking it out, but the 4 hour lines? Psshh. I mean Miyamoto better be giving blowjobs at the end of that line or something ;)

I never bothered with anything that took more than a half-hour wait at E3 and never felt I'd missed anything really important. Stories like this make me glad I didn't go this year. If I'm not on the meter I can wait a few months for it to hit the stores.

Must have been a 2-3 hour wait. It's like being at six flags
That's exactly what I thought when I saw the video. It's almost as crazy as the wait's Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure had on opening day last year (I heard 8 - 10 hours).
If I was at E3, there is no way I would wait in that line. I'd rather wait until stores get demo units than spend 3+ hours in line.
I'm kind of impatient when it comes to lines though, I have trouble waiting in line for more than 10 - 15 minutes at an amusement park (which is why I try to go during the offseason like a weekday when everyone is in school/work).

On day 3 I was in that line at 9:20. At that point in time it was about 3/4 of the way around the floor (just turning around the Wizards of the Coast M:TG booth). I got in at almost 2pm and my first game was Zelda a little later than 2:30. I just stayed in the booth until closing (4pm) and played some more games.
While in line I got to call out Cheapy D (I noticed him quite quickly) while he was walking by. He told me to go ahead and stop lurking, but I dunno...;)
Anyway, I had a good time in there and must say that Excite Truck is pretty sweet :)
