This is what I want in a cell phone, in order of importance
1. removeable memory card (my old video phone had one and I was always using it), or at least a way to get photos onto my pc without e-mailing them to myself. If I can't transfer it from my phone to my pc (through memory card or other means) I don't want it.
2. decent battery life (at least 2 days, but prefer closer to a week)
3. quality camera
I can get this phone for 20 bucks through a friend
http://www.samsung.com/Products/MobilePhones/Sprint/SPH_A900ZKSXAR.asp
But the battery only lasts a day (or a little more) it has no memory card, though it is 1.3 megapixels. It also has a media player.
My old nokia video phones battery lasted a week, though I lost it and my free phone replacement lasts a day, but at least my contract just expired. I hate it and I also forget to charge it, meaning I have no cell phone half the time.
I can't afford much, so I need a phone I can get for free or pretty close to it (20 or 30 bucks). I know you can often get good stuff cheap if you know where to look.

are you looking to buy it with a plan or stand alone?

With a plan. I don't want one that requires an expensive plan, or at least requires me to stay with it. Many deals only require you purchase a certain plan, but allow you to change it after a month.

I'm really digging my Samsung t809 I picked up for $20 at CompUSA during some special they had. Outpost had a sale on their 1gb MicroSD cards, so now I watch episodes of Arrested Development on my way to and from campus. What company are you looking to sign up with? Any preference?

this is one i found from Cingular...check it out
No offense, but youd be an idiot not to get the A900 for $20. It is miles above the RAZR which i own, both in terms of quality and sleekness. I'd say go for that man.

Forget the A900. You need the A920 (http://www.samsung.com/Products/MobilePhones/Sprint/SPH_A920WSSXAR.asp).
1.3 megapixel camera.
microSD card slot (up to 1 GB)
I find mine lasts up to 5 days depending on how much I use the streaming video/mp3 player.

Actually, the A900 is the same thing as a RAZR, just with a Samsung badge, cosmetic make over, and a few features for Sprints network. A friend of mine does tech support for Sprint/Nextel, and he confirmed it for me a while back

Ok well i find it to be much better then the RAZR. I dont hate the RAZR, but its ubiquitous as hell.

I wasn't knockin ya on it or anything, so I hope you didn't get that impression. Just that many people (read as mindless dumb consumers) don't know the difference. Its probably been optimized for Sprint, seeing as it has the play/pause, rewing, fast forward on the front of it for the networks video feature thing.
All I really know is that my Motorola V235 from Verizon totally sucks big donkey balls. Probably the only other Moto phone I'd own is a RAZR...

A lot of these phones are nice, but any really good deals on them?

Ya, I'm an idiot for not taking a phone that doesn't do what I want .

First of all, A920 is the way to go. Not nearly as thin as the a900, but it's a feature-packed phone. Camera has a unreasonably slow shutter speed though, but hopefully it will be fixed through a firmware update. I'll pm you some information about a plan with that phone for a good price.

I enjoy my LG VX8100, it has the feautres you're looking for and also a mini-sd slot as opposed to transflash (or micro-sd) cards, which suck IMO because they are generally more expensive, harder to find in larger sizes, and are not really designed to be removed very often. Not real, real expensive either (about $50-75 after savings).
