Guys, I say wait until a 360 price drop or until they start releasing 360s with built-in, internal HD-DVD drives...it doesn't make sense to buy one now IMO since they have yet to revise the system (ala Xbox 1, where they went through about 7 or so revisions to the motherboard and internal components).
News is that the HD-DVD add-on will only be about 100 or so, making the 360 with HD-DVD STILL cheaper than the base PS3 and possibly striking a death blow...I can see them trying to save money and just putting internal drives into the systems eventually, so maybe we should wait for that? I know I won't buy one until the PS3 is out so I can see what MS will do to make the system more appealing.

Agreed... by the time the really awesome games come out, this thing should be seeing a price drop. Didn't MS say they wanted a drop every year or so? They'll drop it anyways to compete with Sony.

They might drop it to $350 or so possibly by this fall, but it all comes down to whether or not you want to wait that long to potentially get it at essentially the same price you can get it now.
This is a pretty hot price. Thanks for the deal OP.
For today's prices, this is a pretty good deal. This is about 80-85$ less than what it would cost in a store.
They will probably drop the price eventually, but this is true of all technology. I waited forever to get my Ps2, till it was $150, and 4 months later it dropped to $130.

yeah, if you get free shipping and no tax you save a ton on this deal - at least enough to buy a game.

Great deal on a great system. I've stopped playing games on my PC because of it.
Very good deal if I had my PC sold I would be all over this....

if they revise the 360(with a built in hd-dvd) then i'll use my warranty to return my "broken" 360. otherwise, im a happy man. the 360's sweet.

Did they change this because I can't seem to get the discount? Is it working for anyone else?

there wont be a drop this fall. it's selling to well at 400 to just drop it for no reason. once sales start slowly dropping (im sure not by much) probably after this xmas (because ps3 will be out and X360 wont be the only "next gen" console) i can see them bundling a launch title with it and knocking off at least $20. if you expect a price drop this fall... don't get your hopes up.

I disagree - a price drop right before Sony's launch could kill them. They don't care about making money on the system - they just want to put one in as many homes as possible.
A $100 price drop (like some are speculating) would mean that you could buy a premium 360 for 1/2 of what the PS3 is going to cost. There are going to be PS3 shortages because Sony said there will only be 2M available worldwide at launch. Even if you wanted a $600 PS3 this fall but couldn't get one, buying a $300 360 with second generation games already available doesn't seem lke that big of a deal.

man, I would never buy a console from overstock though. It'll prob take 3 weeks to get there and if it's a broken console.... 15% restocking fee. Not to mention they might just not even know if your package shipped or not.

Exactly.
A price drop on the 360, near the PS3's launch, will have some nasty effects on Sony's launch. Espically after games like Gears of War are already out.

Just my two cents, but don't expect a price drop anytime soon. I think what is more realistic is a Greatest Hits program. I can see titles like PD0, Oblivion and CoD 2 going for $29.99 this fall.

This is a good deal, but I'm going to wait for a 360 with the supposedly cooler-running 65nm CPU. Since they're due in 2007, hopefully there'll be a price drop by then, too. :)

Why price drop when the PS3 is already $100-200 more expensive? 360 will also have a stronger library this holiday season vs PS3 launch titles, which doesn't really consist of a killer app at this time. All this talk about a price drop doesn't make much sense at all.

hmm good deal. especially if you get one with a samsung drive, making the games ultimately FREE! lol

Thanks OP! I just need to decide if I want to order one. If it drops to $350 in the fall I still save money with tax, but if it drops to $300 I'll be kicking myself in the ass.
Edit: Just read the above post about a cooler running processor, I think I'll wait for that.

I've been planning to buy a 360 this weekend at CC with that $40 off $199 coupon, but this would allow me to circumvent paying taxes.
Very tempting, but I'm not sure I want to risk ordering a console from Overstock when previous orders have been unfulfilling.

I agree, a price drop will happen. Their looking to kill PS3, and there is no better way but to drop the Premium SKU to $300-325 and the Core SKU to $250, geting it into every home.
At this moment a PS3 could be pre-ordered for just $100 more at $499 with Blu-Ray and with the promise of slightly more graphical power. MS knows alot of people still might be hold out from getting a 360 because of those two options. $100 isn't that big of a difference, but $200 is another situation.
Merrill Lynch and many others are predicting a drop, some saying as soon as October, because of the fact MS has already contracted Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing to produce and change to a 65 nanometer microprocessors in place of the current version 360's 90 nanometer.

The new 65mm Xbox 360 CPUs will have more chips per wafer--which means lower energy requirements, lower heat output, and cheaper chip production costs.
That means possibly no more internal heat issues / crashes, less heat means lower power consumption, and the fan won't be constantly running, which makes for a quieter unit. Plus, It will lower the manufacturing cost and allow them to sell it cheaper.
Chartered is also hinting there could be an added benefit of a small increase in CPU speed because of the SOI layering during manufacturing.

Yeah but the military bundle is a good deal. I got that for 640 shipped. Considering an xbox 360 and controller plus 2games and tax =620 where I am at. I thought it was a steal. 3 great games (GRAW, PD0, CoD2 1 crappy one (BF2). Thought it was steal IMO. I did cash out an underperforming mutal fund to pay for it. I put 1000 dollars in when I was 15 now I am 24 and I have made a total of 650 dollars (or a 350 dollar loss) so I figured might as well put it to some use. Thought about a PS3 but the price tag angered me. So I don't know if I Wanted the 360 or I wanted to buy one to piss off sony. It sorta felt like voting for kerry; you don't like him but the other guy pissed you off so much you want to screw him....
I am a loyal sonyist untill the 600 price tag announcement. Oh and HELLO WIII!!! I want you too!
