View Full Version : What do different firmware mean to you and me?

Okay, so we all know that firmware 1.0 and 1.5 can run all kinds of neat homebrew, but it cannot run the newer umd games. So my question is this: is it really worth it to not upgrade the firmware so the PSP can run homebrew but not be able to play newer umd games? How do you homebrew people deal with is tradeoff?

There are SOME games that will run with a firmware trick....tricks the PSP into 2.0 or higher. However, some games still won't work. I upgraded mine recently....I still can play some homebrew. Up to a 2.0 I think....

I didn't pay $200 for my PSP to play 10+ year old games on it. I know some people are totally addicted to nostalgia, but not me. I bought that thing so I can play all the kickass new games that are out and are coming out for it. I'll be damned if I'll sacrifice the chance to play the new for the ability to play the old, especially when I can play them on my home PC anytime I want.

The difference is a 1.0 or 1.5 will sell for a lot more on ebay.
you have much better chance of playing a 2.7 game on a 1.5 psp.

I'm never upgrading my 1.5. Not only can I play awesome psp games such as Liberty city stories, daxter, lumines, or syphon filter but also Final Fantasy 1-6, chrono trigger, super metroid, metal slug, street fighter, 6 zelda games, countless mario games, etc, etc. Not only that, but I could play games that were never released here, such as Final Fantasy III and the snes zelda remake.

Its really funny how so many people think 1.5 is just for playing old systems.
Now there are some games that we arent able to play yet (62t named 3) but its all just a matter of time. Microsoft said the 360 would be unhackable, and now theres a one click tool for making your 360 to play burned games.

You can upgrade to 2.6 and still enjoy all the homebrew via the GTA glitch.

I highly doubt Sony gives two shits about whether you can play old games or not. The problem is people who are illegally playing PSP games, and I have no problem with Sony trying to rectify that problem.

then why did Sony fix the GTA exploit in firmware 2.7?
(firmware 2.0 - 2.6 could run homebews, but not iso)

With 1.5 you can download and play actual PSP games (Yes, not just emulators of old systems!) Originally you did need 2.0 but they were cracked.
