First, he's just a wuss, inside and out. They tell him he has to defuse bombs and he's like "who? me? awwwwww, geeeeee, I can't do that. I'm too pussy." they have to fucking yank him by the arm to get him to do anything. He's like a whiny teenage spiky haired RPG protagonist. Which reminds me, I'm just about to fight the fat man on this playthrough, but I seem to remember Raiden having some amnesia that gets revealed later on...which would seal the deal.

the worst part-- his freaking girlfriend tags along and interrupts with crap like "hay jack do u know what tomorrow is lol?" He doesn't stand up to her at all. She's a dumb bitch too. They're perfect for each other. She's like "oh, he lied about his leg? that's offensive to the people who can walk lolz." Meanwhile, Stillman is saving everyone's ass. and you know that dumbass couple where the guy is over-sensitive, the girl is a complete ditz, and listening to their conversations is the most aggravating experience ever, to the point where you just ditch them both until they break up? that's what it's like to listen to Raiden and Rose.

Rant over. I still love MGS2 and the only redeeming factor for Raiden is that he becomes a total badass in 4. :)

I know it's not that expensive in stores, but I got this for free and it disappeared while rearranging my room. I always end up finding the original after replacing things I've lost, so I'm trying to hold off.

I don't get the Raiden hate at all. At which point was he a wuss exactly? The part where he owns Vamp? The part where he takes out a Harrier with Stinger missiles? Where he takes out like 15 Metal Gear Rays? Or perhaps it's when he beats Solidus in a sword fight? Do people have a hard on for Snake that much that they have to be playing as him constantly?

Also where is this arm pulling? The only times he questions his orders is when they don't make sense. Which is what he should be doing. In fact, his whole willingness to continue his mission despite all the odd occurances is key to proving The Patriots S3 plan. That people can be easily controlled. Hence Rose's roll. Raiden was a bold plan by Kojima to use the player to prove his in game story. Rose ties into this as she's the only one in the whole game who is trying to get Raiden to open his eyes, and think for himself. He doesn't listen though and becomes angry with her. Just as the player becomes angry with her.

I have to say, I'm not as into the story and don't know it by heart, so for all I know, he's perfect in that sense.

but after dealing with Snake, the king stealth pro, then dealing with Raiden's whininess every two seconds, the stark contrast gets to me ;-)

I don't get the hatred either. I thought he was pretty coo'. And I think it was something like 25 Metal Gear Rays on Extreme. That was sooo much fun. (That wasn't sarcasm, I actually loved it.)

But, the best part of the whole game is in the Tanker. There's a locker (or stall?) somewhere that has a particular risque picture and when you call Otacon on the codec it looks like Snake is punchin' the munchkin.
