View Full Version : Its funny that in a game about hearts, friendship and love.

Riku, Kairi and Sora never even mention their parents. They miss eachother horribly and go through so much for eachother, but never once do any of them mention parents. Funnier is the game at one point clearly makes it obvious Sora grew up in a normal home too, there is a scene where his mom is calling his name questioningly in the first when he dissapears.

I guess you have to think of the basic audience the games are made for. As a parallel, there are a number of cartoon shows/anime aimed at the preteen/teen set where parents don't appear at all.
It kind of adds to the whole fantasy escapist element of KH that you don't see the kids' parents.

I agree with blueshinra. Kids see their parents all the time. They need a little time to be heroes with their friends. Imaginary or real.

Agreed and I figured that was the reason as well as it would detract from just how hard they are pushing for the whole heart connection/friendship thing. I just thought it was funny that we have kids running around fighting evil and having adult relationships....yet no mention of parents.

At the end of Kingdom Hearts 2 Doesnt Sora's parents wonder where he's been for the past few years? Not only that, wouldn't they be a little scared if giant talking mice, ducks, and dogs came to where they live?

I just started playing KH and I was pretty confused at first. When they are all on the island there is no mention of parents. What I understood was that they along with the FF characters ended up on the island somehow and had been living there, they had also wamted tp make a raft in order to escape the island. Then all of a sudden I see a cutscene with Sora's parents' voice and I am all like WTF and then he takes a boat to the island?! Why the hell would you buid a raft if you got boats!

Why the hell would you buid a raft if you got boats!Maybe they take a ferry that only goes to the island and operates on a schedule? With your own raft, you can go anywhere anytime you want! :bouncy:

I don't want to sound like a jerk, but one of the other things that differentiates this board is the fact that we post in normal, legible English, which is MUCH easier to read.

I figured it was just taking the Disney Formula to the next step. In every Disney movie, the main character is missing at least one parent (Ariel - mother, Belle - mother, Simba - father, Aladdin - both, Pocahontas - mother, Hercules - both (sort of), Hunchback - both, etc.).
In Kingdom Hearts, I think it's for the same reason -- to save on exposition and backstory. Kingdom Hearts has enough going on that we don't want to have to waste time with everyone's parents. It's not like we haven't seen that a million times already in RPGs.
