I have just purchased a DS Lite @ Target. Located in South Gate, CA. It's on the corner of Firestone Blvd. And Garfield Ave. They had them in the display case. About 7+.

So yes you can purchase them at this target. Hope others can pick theirs up. Just charging my lite right now!!

walmart in van nuys, CA wont sell it to me. I got there just when they were unloading it on the shelf. I quickly ask for one to buy. when they scan, it says "sale not allowed". they called the manager, he scanned it...then they took all the DS out of the shelf and back to the boxes. Manager told me he'll only sell me the regular DS. The lites are not available yet...and he doesnt know when they'll be available. I left without arguing. I prolly could've scored one with a little arguing...but i was just on my lunchbreak.

I can't get to a Target or Wal-Mart, so I'll have to hold off. Interesting to hear they broke the street date so early.

You can get Yolobus from the MU to the Target at the County Fair Mall in Woodland, and then another bus from there to the Walmart. I just checked Target a little while ago though and no dice.

I did called Lees Summit Super Target and they has 15 DS LITE in the back room but they didn't put out for sale. Also, I did went to Independence Target but i find non- DS LITE on the shelve), I did asked they check the SKU # and they did have it in the backroom but they refuse to go and get 1 one for me :(

a little story to go with it too, see when i got there there there were a few other guys there too, their intentions were obvious becase like me they were obviously looking for the DS wall oddly located around the corner. Of course we all met eyes and knew what we were there for. They even mumbled something to me about "you know there's a website that tracks these things".

between these two guys they were buying 3, probably to sell one or all, so they were kind of surprised when i said i was buying it because i wanted one (i kept really quiet and ignorant, didnt want to let the closeby sales girl that made this all possible too wise). Then of course this other guy comes to th eclass case and wants one too.

WHILE the girl is unlocking it this guy actually says, "arent these not supposed to be sold yet?", i and i'm sure the other two wiser fellows wanted to dart him a look but even then we just kept really quiet and still and pretended we didnt hear him.

luckily this chick still had no problem grabbing 5 DS lite boxes and ringing them all up, i bought mine first and SPEED WALKED THE HELL OUTTA THERE BEFORE ANYONE GOT WISE.

anyhow so i have it now, take THAT Australia. not sure if i'll even play it tonight though, i think i might wait a couple days till my Hori filters come in the mail (didnt expect to have to order them so soon, hehe).

Just got back from Target...

Target location: Neshaminy Mall, Bucks County PA...Just a stones throw away from Philadelpha.

They had an easy 25+ of them in stock. The ENTIRE section where the old DS's including the Animal Crossing bundles are located was whiped clean with a fresh stock of DSLites. Not a single OLD DS to be found.

Very nice system - it's charging now but the colors look noticeably more vibrant on the screen and the buttons are a little nicer. My 6 yo daugther has just inherited my old racing red DS and she can't stop playing AC on it. My wife wants to kill me : )

That sucks. I was thinking about getting another one too. Yeah there were 6 or 7 when I was there at Florence at 1:30 and no one seemed to notice or care that they were there. This women with two kids gave me a wierd look when I took a picture of the DS case with my phone. Thats when I got out of there. Stinks there sold out. I won't beleive that until I see it, but it makes sense. Every one Target sells is money out of the pocket of stores like EG/Gamestop. The hardcore who preorder things are the ones scooping most of these up.

Of course I get your point, it isn't complicated. I'm trying to provide some perspective. If you get it on June 11th, you get exactly what you paid for. If you get it before then, that's a bonus. What pisses me off is a society of people who think they're entitled to something just because someone else gets it. We haven't been cheated here, we just also didn't get more than we paid for. Fair shakes.

So far I haven't seen anyone buy more than 1 copy other than to give it to specific people (though obviously their showing up on eBay implies that some people are). And yeah, that's a shame, and obviously you and I would put them to much better use. That doesn't mean we deserve to have them. Someone else's good fortune isn't a justifiable reason to get pissed off. :-?

I picked one up today at the Walmart in Medina, OH. I called target, they said they didn't have them yet, but that since they were remodeling they hadn't recieved any new stock in a few days.

At Walmart, they had approx. 12 there. When the girl rang it up, it said that she couldn't sell it yet. I got a little worried, but she just did an override, and said that the box they came in said to display right away.

Checked around the North Dallas area Targets and Wal-Marts. Spring Valley and 75 had Lites on display, but they came up with a "SELL NOT PERMITTED" or something error. I tried to get them to ring it up under a general department code (a la an earlier post), but no go. The manager said the reason that message comes up is because there is a recall (haha yeah right) on the item, and they can't sell it at all. Too bad.

Btw, I confirmed with my favorite GS that release date is still 6/11. Ship date was 5/31 or something, but release date did not change. That's to stop all the rumors of a changed release date.

Can I just say how glad I am to read that this was everywhere? Half of my day today was spent stressing out about this thing. I run the electronics department of the Target in my area. We received a pretty hefty shipment of the DS Lite Tuesday afternoon. The boxes were not marked with a street date as usual, and when the Nintendo rep had been in on Friday, she hadn't mentioned it. Furthermore there was nothing in the Nintendo retailer binder about a street date for it. These are the precautions that we check before we put something out on the floor. No information on our end meant that we had the okay to put it out, so we did. I would have left them on the floor, too, except after selling one to a college aged kid this morning, he asked me how we got the go ahead to break the street date on it.

After that we pulled them off the floor and called our Nintendo rep to ask her about a street date. She gave us the date of the 11th, and the we pulled the product and my nervous breakdown about breaking the date ensued.

I'm not in tomorrow, although I'm sure by now we've gotten emails about how to handle it from here on out. Hopefully they just bumped it up to tomorrow so all of you folks who have been waiting can get your hands on it a bit sooner!

I went to Sears before they closed tonight and first off he was clueless second off I showed him online that it showed they had some in stock he went to go find the DS for me. After 10 min. he came back and said it was still on the truck ATM. I ordered in the store for instore pickup and I should get mine tomorrow. I have not recieved my confirmation email yet but I should get mine tomorrow or Friday @ the latest. I also cancelled my gamestop preorder and the clerk got really pissed that I should get my DS lite early.

This bodes well, I think. :D It seems plausible that Nintendo would just bump the release date up 10 days (being that EB/Gamestop gets them tomorrow, that'll mean their major retailers will all have them) in order to capitalize on the rush of people trying to get them early anyhow, and also perhaps to stop people from making bulk profits on them on eBay. And if Best Buy's charging people's credit cards for a shipped product, that more or less means it's going out the doors.

At any rate, I'll certainly be driving over to my EB first thing tomorrow. I confirmed with my local Target and Walmart that they do indeed have them in stock, but as of now none of them would give them to me. Tomorrow may be a different story.

Thanks for the tip! Drove down there this evening. The sales guy said he had half a display case full of them (my guess somewhere around 30 at least) and were down to 7 (at 7:45pm). I picked up two -- one for me and another for my friend who lives 30mi away. I think I'd never hear the end of it if he found out that there was more than one and I didn't grab one for him.

Not necessarily. I preordered a Gamecube from Bestbuy.com and they charged my card for that like a week or two early too. When I got all excited and called them to ask what the hell they told me that that was them paritioning the money in my bank account, or something, to make sure the money stayed put for when they actually charged it for real. Or maybe they were just testing to makre sure I had it at all. I'm not sure. But in anycase a day later the money showed up back in my account and I had to wait 'till launch day like everyone else. according to the guy at the Best Buy in Midtown, the Best Buy in Chelsea got them in today, it may be too late to get one, but if you are close buy it cant hurt to check. If someone has already posted this, sorry for the repost

Well, after a one hour train ride and 30 minute walk, I found out that guy was wrong :o The guy working there knew that Target was already selling them but told me June 11th.
I told him I heard that his store was selling them and he said "Oh really? Where did you hear that?" and looked a little suspicious. Maybe they were out earlier in the day.

To wrap up my day:

None at Best Buy in Chelsea.
None at WalMart in East Meadow.
None at Target in Levittown.

EDIT: Might be worth noting that none of those stores had either the DS or DS Lite.

I just got back from Wal-Mart in Austin, Texas. They didn't have any in the glass case but they had a nice unmarked cardboard box sitting outside the glass case with a large orange sticker that read, "DO NOT DISPLAY TIL JUNE 11th". I opened the cardboard box up and it contained about 15 white Nintendo DS lites. I grabbed one and walked to the front. When it was scanned the machine let out a nice long 5 second beep then displayed "no sale". The lady paged someone whom asked me if this one was different than the other DS. I explained it was smaller then he said he couldn't sell it. I guess target already put these in their system? I'll check there tomorrow morning.

I was in L.A. just this past weekend, and nothing at the Target in Gardena. No trace of Lites at any of the BBs, Fry's, or other electronic stores I visited in and around the South Bay/Torrance/Gardena areas--I was even in the Valley around Northridge and Van Nuys. Yep. Just called Gamestop and they said the fine was something like $65k per unit. I dont' see how that's possible. Maybe 65k total but not per.

Yea basically Nintendo screwed up by not putting street dates all over the boxes when they shipped. They should know that stupid retail employees are not smart enough to check street dates. It looks like normal stock unless the system is set up to reject it or there is DO NOT SELL UNTILL in big letters on it....

I'm not much of a console gamer, but I can say with PC games, there really doesn't ever appear to be a street date. When they're done and finally make it to the store, they start selling. I guess people figured these were in the same boat.

If they just made the release date for ALL electronic stuff Tuesday, this nuttiness would probably subside.

I managed to get one this morning from the local Target store in Champaign, IL. I was there first thing at 8 AM this morning after seeing some posts that Target might start selling them June 1st.

I had called *and* gone to Target yesterday after reading CAG, but when I called they said they didn't have them and when I went to the store later that night, I didn't see any.

So I went this AM and still didn't see any on the shelves. I asked one of the employees if they happened to have any and they went to check in back and brought one out and rung it up for me!! w00t!!! :bouncy:

So it's sitting on my desk now at work, charging up, while I eagerly wait for it to finish so I can pop in New Super Mario Bros. to see how much better it looks on the Lite's screen. :D

most games in general are never street dated. only big stuff like halo 2, madden, kingdom hearts 2, etc. the thing is most stores usually don't get the game until the day it's supposed to release anyway. that's why games are never really sold early.

Then had the Woman/Moron/Retard/Idiot/Monkey try and ring it up to make sure it would, and she said yes it did. So of course when I get there it gives out a long beep when she tries to ring it up. She continues to do this at least 30 more times before she finally calls the Manager over there.
When the Manager gets there she says they can't be sold till June 11th. I then show her the stacks of them in the display case. They then go digging around the boxes that they unpacked them from and find the big red sticker that reads JUNE 11th. I tell the handicap, "Thanks for letting me drive 40 minutes after you confirmed it over the phone that you had them and they ring up". She just looked away and started talking to the manager.
Looks like they lowered the IQ standards for getting hired at Walmart from 10 to -10.

Well I just got back from a Walmart 40 minutes away. I called them FIRST to make sure they had them. Then had the Woman/Moron/Retard/Idiot/Monkey try and ring it up to make sure it would, and she said yes it did. So of course when I get there it gives out a long beep when she tries to ring it up. She continues to do this at least 30 more times before she finally calls the Manager over there.
When the Manager gets there she says they can't be sold till June 11th. I then show her the stacks of them in the display case. They then go digging around the boxes that they unpacked them from and find the big red sticker that reads JUNE 11th. I tell the handicap, "Thanks for letting me drive 40 minutes after you confirmed it over the phone that you had them and they ring up". She just looked away and started talking to the manager.
Looks like they lowered the IQ standards for getting hired at Walmart from 10 to -10.

Ugh. Unfortunate. :cry: My last chance is this afternoon - there's one local Sears whose electronics department knows nothing about the DS Lite but claims their truck shipments usually come in at around 1PM on Thursday. So at 1:30 I'll go find out if maybe they put some on the shelves.

After that, it's back to just waiting until the 11th with everybody else.

Nintendo does Sunday releases a lot. I remember picking up the Game Boy SP on the street date at TRU on a Sunday morning.

Has anyone successfully completed a Sears in-store pickup sale (or just walked into a Sears and purchased one)? I just ordered one from the location nearest work. Hopefully I'll get the e-mail before lunch and can go pick it up.

GBA SP, GameCube, and DS were all released on Sundays. I guess they figure people have more time to pick them up or something. But it's a Nintendo tradition at this point.

Going directly to Nintendo asking for a comment with links to all the stores breaking the street date is just ratting them out and making things tougher for us. I ordered a DS Lite with in-store pick up from the Sears on Irving Park Rd this morning. I picked that store since it had the DS Lite as in-stock and the other locations had it as 3-5 business days.

About an hour later, a rep from Sears called me at the office and said that I wouldn't be able to pick it up until June 11th. She had a conference call with Nintendo last night and they stated that Sears, or any retailer, should "absolutely not start selling the DS Lite until June 11th". I'm sure other retailers got the same notice.

So, I guess if you didn't get a DS Lite yesterday, you'll be waiting until June 11th, just like me!

Congratulations to those lucky people that got them before the memo went out to pull them from the shelves!

Well here's my theory: Nintendo knows what they are doing. They did not go out of their way to tell retailers about the street date and shipped them 2 weeks early to breed hype. I mean the more people talk, the more casual gamers are like, hmm this new DS-Lite must be the shiznit (cuz that's how casual gamers talk :) ) I mean you cant say Nintendo is new at the whole console release thing. For better or worse, this past year Nintendo has mastered the art of hype with the Wii and now the DS-Lite. I don't think Nintendo will come down very hard on retailers about this, if anything I think they will use it as leverage to get prime shelf space and displays for the Wii.
But then again, who knows. :)

At Target we don't have a way to check street dates on things like this. When its a big release like a console, we get a packet about a week beforehand with the instructions on what to do. We can't pull them up on the computers or anything. We're taught to rely on our vendors, the boxes being marked, and the signing in the store. None of which had the information correct in this case. I don't really understand why there's a need to insult the employees when I can attest that at least in my store, there was no indication that it was a street date product at all.

Yeah, word has spread (Gamespot has put it on their POLL on the mainpage) and retailers have probably already received the memo. I guess I'll just have to wait another weak or so for my DS Lite.

Yup, that's precisely where I am. The Target stores were wise to the problem yesterday at 1PM. The Walmart employees don't have a clue, but their boxes say "don't display until June 11th" and their sales won't ring up, so they're not willing to pull an override.

Only shot left is Sears at the State College mall (I called Altoona, they didn't have any). The mall one says they get their shipments on Thursdays around 1PM. So I'll be headed there in about an hour just for the heck of it to see if I can snag one, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
