Nope. The only exception is a compilation game where I own the stand alone version. Like with Midway Arcade Treasures 2 had MK2 on it and I have it for SNES.

Noooo.
When I used to have a fairly large video game collection, I'd find myself in the video game store, wondering, "... do I already own that?" I'd wind up going home to check.
However, during Dreamcast days, I think I bought a game I already owned a couple of times.

Didn't slidecage (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29180) do something like this? Or was it somebody else that bought Xbox games but forgot that he didn't have an Xbox?
Edit: Nevermind, found the thread.
This is in the wrong forum though, as it should be in deal discussion, I believe.

Kind of. I bought THPS4 online, then in store because I forgot I ordered it and it hadn't been delivered yet. Thankfully I had a friend that traded me number 3 for it, which is the better game in my opinion.

nope. despite my frequenting this website i don't have a large game collection. just 22 xbox (my entire xbox collection) games here, everything else is at my parents' house. most of those were bought either used or a few months old after price drops.

Yes and almost, for the yes I intentionally just bought Half-Life 2 for $20 one day because even though I got it on PC for a present prior to that but my computer sucks too hard to run it at a playable level. The almost was when on a couple occasions I'd see a good deal on a game, but couldn't remember if I owned it on another platform or something so I had to call my roommate to confirm it or not.

Not accidentally, but I've bought a few games as presents. I can't resist sending out a cool game that only cost me 10 bucks. Makes me look like an pimp come Christmas time.

I have done it twice as a matter of fact (and in the last few months). I have all three syphon filters for the ps1 and one does not have a case, so I found another copy bought it, and it was the same one, and then I did it again w/ the same results. so now I have SF 1 (GH & non), SF2 (gh & non) and SF3 (no case), but all in mint condition. I would be real pissed if they were not so damn cheap.

Yes. I bought the Japanese version of Final Fantasy Tactics on eBay (it was cheap), only to find out that I had bought the game on my last trip to Japan 2 years ago. (Tokyo here I come again, June 11th baby)

Yeah, I did it today actually. Bought Classic Concentration for the NES at a pawn shop thinking I needed it but found out I already owned it once I got home. I'm up to around 720 different NES titles in my collection though, so it's hard remembering which ones I do & don't have sometimes.

Well since joining this site i've purchased about 100+ games each year. And only once came close to buying a game I already had, a budget rpg.
I stopped buying 5 dollar games that I knew that I would never play. However, ill pick up an avg rpg if its cheap to try it out. So far I have 30+ rpgs backlogged!!! Which is a lot, but the other 170 or so games that I purchased i have gone through rather quickly. Games like God of War, Devil May Cry, i stop trying to get every little thing and just sit down, play the game and beat it.

Yup, about two or three times. I lost count of my NES and PS1 games for some time and found a few titles I wanted to grab on the cheap ($1 a pop). I think I picked up Ikari Warriors, Batman, Dino Crisis and Rage Racer, brought them home, and found out I had bought them before (for just that cheap, oddly enough).
No harm, no foul though. My brother just ended up with four more games for his own collection. I think I've done it one or two more times since and the end result is usually that, if it's cheap enough, I toss it to a friend. Always a surprise, certianly makes them happy.

I've done this a couple of times, usually with NES or Playstation Games. I would find games at Flea Markets thinking it was a steal and taking them home only to realize I already had the game.
Of course I will go out and buy a game I already own if it is to replace a disc only game.

I do that a lot with Atari 2600 and NES games as I have trouble remembering all of the ones that I have.

I remember I was watching an eBay auction on a game I already owned, but then found out that I already own the game before the auction ended. I think the game might've been Rumble Roses
I also keep on forgetting that I own some of the GBA games. Since I very often buy the GBA games, play thru them, and then sell them back. So sometimes I lose track on what I still own and what I already sold.

I come close to doing this alot anymore, one time I completely forgot I had Star Wars ep 3. (dvd) I found it months after buying it and was completely dumbfounded. What an odd feeling that was.

Not for video games which is surprising considering I have over 1,000 games, but I have done it when buying Star Wars Action Figures more often than I care to admit.+
EDIT: I just remembered that I picked up a new Final Fantasy Origins new and sealed at a F.Y.E. closeout a while ago and didn't realize that I had it. It's still for trade if anyone is interested.

Nope. I always check my collection before I buy a game cause then I'd feel really stupid for buying something twice.

I saw Rad Racer I & II at a pawn shop afew months back and needed one of them. Acidently bought Rad Race when I actually needed Rad Racer II as I forgot which one I had and though I needed the first one.
I acidently bought Vectorman when they had it on clearance for $5 at TRU years ago when I already had it. I also bought Vectorman 2 on a different trip to TRU on clearance and forgot that I also had bought Vectorman on clearance at some point before then. I was thinking that I only had Vectorman 2 when I had both.

I've bought duplicates of NARC, MAT2, The Suffering, Psi-Ops and San Andreas.
Mind you, they were not true duplicates, in that I had them for PS2 already and bought most of those(except Psi-Ops) for Xbox.
So, to answer the question with a short answer, I have bought only ONE duplicate of a game that I have already for the same system, that being Psi-Ops.
The others, I rebought because they were cheap and I didn't have a PS2 to play the original copies I have of them on at that moment.
And actually, the duplicate of Psi-Ops was from the clearance list neocisco posted a while back from CC, so I got it for a whopping $2.
I later on sold that copy to a friend at cost.

Never had it happen to where I bought a nother copy of a game I arleady had. But once or twice I bought a game in store and then got a copy in the mail a couple days later that I forgot I had pre-ordered online. Just took the second one back, no big deal.

Just out of excitement for seeing them at the store, I've purchased 3 Super Puzzle Fighters, 2 Silent Bombers, and 3 (4 if you count the Japanese copy) Castlevania Symphony of the Night. I always find myself wanting to buy Psi-ops on Xbox whenever I see it, but I've managed to resist.

Like a few others have said, Ive done this with NES games. If Im at a thrift store or garage sale and I see some cheap NES games, I'll usually buy them unless Im 100% sure I have them already. If theres any doubt I'll buy it. Which is why I usually have NES doubles that I sell on ebay.

you'd be surprised how fast that intimate knowledge of your collection vanishes when your staring at hundreds of games on a shelf in a store somewhere. ;)
Back when I was still collecting Kung Fu dvd's I carried around a tiny little list that I printed out in the tiniest font possible. It was about the size of a business card, yet had the names of over 100 films on it.
When your in a store staring at 'Shaolin Masters', 'Shaolin Master Killers', 'Masters of Shaolin', and 'The Master from Shaolin', it can hard to remember which 1 of the 4 you dont yet have.

Very true. When you have hundreds of games, you lose track of what you bought and haven't played yet, what you may have borrowed from a friend, what you've sold/traded, etc.

During the trade in 2 games preorder a game for $29.99 at Gamerush last year I had a similiar problem. End up preordering 2 games twice thanks to D2R2 getting $27. I think I have 11 games preordered between 2 stores at one point and just could't remember them all.
